Mac - :wave2:

Paint - I like White Castles too ::yes:: I haven't had them in a long time though.

Bunchkin - There were tons of people outside here too on Sunday. No one comes by our house though, because we live at the end of a dead end.
**I would love to see photos of the characters with masks on. Yesterday I was looking at my LTT photos from 2006, and they definitly didn't have anything on:sad2: We got jipped!!!!

piglet - Good luck to the kids with their sports activities :wizard: I'm sure they'll have fun!!

momto1 - Enjoy your short week this week - how fun!!! :cool1:

DG - I"m glad you had a fun time celebrating your DSIS's birthday :)
**Good luck with the Avon Breast Cancer Walk :wizard:

HERSEY - :wave2:

Maverick Mike - Hi there!!!! :wave2: Thanks for coming by!!! I'll have to check out the podcast sometime - thanks for the invite!!! :goodvibes

Well, that's about it from me today
It's time to run and get ready for work

Have a good day today!!!

I
He needs a dental appt since all 6th graders have to have one now. He wasn't quite due to go back but the form has to be back to school by May 9.
Enjoy the sunny day today!
Lori

Oh crud!!! 6th graders need a dental appointment? I think I read about that. That means DS-11 is going to need one this summer. EEK!!! I wonder if they will be booked up? In our case, we don't have dental insurance, so I have to wait until I can get the funds. We haven't gotten the forms yet. I already have his physical scheduled, so we are good to go there.

I've been seeing in Wal-Mart that all Kindergarten kids now need eye exams too. I have another year before I have to worry about that for the little guy. I don't usually take them in until 1st or 2nd grade unless something seems amiss before then.

It's going to be a busy summer medically. 6th grade & 9th grade physicals and it's time for DD to get shots, so I have to find out the schedule for that (we go through the health department for the shots).

I'm not sure if I'll have to move DD's up though if she makes the HS cheerleading squad. We will find out Wed. if she makes it or not. :scared1: There was no mention of the physical in the informational meeting as to when you need it but since all 9th graders have it automatically, that won't be an issue. The only catch is they start practices the first week of June.

Morning all. Thanks for the birthday wishes for Kellie. She loves her new bike and had a great weekend to try it out.
I worked the whole weekend.:sad2: Didn't even get to enjoy a break in the fresh air. Yesterday was nice, though. I got out for a bit.
Doing a bit of :laundy: today and changing sheets. :rolleyes1 Thanks for the bright idea Sandy.:rolleyes1
Kellie has dress rehearsal tonight for Peter Pan and then shows for schools Wed. Thurs and Fri. Open shows are Sat and Sun this weekend. Then, next week is Fun Fair stuff. :scared: (It's almost over.)
Rose, happy belated wishes to Chrissy and Matthew. Hope they had a great day!!!
Did you all see the news this morning with those teens beating up on that other girl? Then the mom of one of the girls comes on and says the victim should take some of the blame for saying insulting things about the other girls on her MySpace!!??? WHAT????? :scared1: My kids were eating breakfast at the table when that came on, and I told Kellie if she is ever involved in anything like that in any way, shape or form, I would be the one turning her over to the police!!!! (little harsh, I know, but I don't want my kids ever thinking it is OK to beat on anyone for any reason) Parents like that woman are what is wrong with this world in the first place IMHO. No one ever wants to take responsibility for their own actions anymore these days. OK, rant over.
I see Free Dining has been announced. I guess that means my uncrowded and hot end of August vacation will now be packed with people out for free food!! Maybe I will get lucky and they will all be spending all their time waiting for food and the ride lines will be shorter.:rolleyes1 Or maybe I will be spending more time at the resort in the pool. I hadn't made any dinner ressies either, so I called quick yesterday to be sure I could get dinner one night at BOMA, one character breakfast and dinner at Cape May Cafe the day we arrive. I guess for the rest of it, I will have to hope and pray.
Slo, I have some pix of the characters dressed up at LTT. I will go back and see if they are still on the computer here and post them for you. They are dressed up in period clothes and have the masks over their faces like Bunchkin said. Nothing very exciting, but cute.
Well, time to switch the laundry. I have to run to school to do copying for the FunFair too, so I had better get moving.
Mac, thanks again for the listings. I am looking forward to Friday. New show!!!:woohoo:
disneygal, I have never had the time to go off to MiniGolf or anything beyond a waterpark. The MiniGolf courses look fun, though.
piglet, I know what you mean about being in 2 places. It would be nice if these sporting coordinators could all coordinate with one another and never have a conflict. They would need a lot of :wizard: for that to happen.
Well, better get moving. Have a great day all.

Morning! Sorry I missed you all yesterday.

Today Sears is delivering our new stove :thumbsup2 . They had a Friends & Family VIP sale a week ago and my SIL used her extra discount for us. I can't wait to have a stove whose burners go on when you turn the knob and an oven that has a light and digital temperature reading. Who would have thought that I'd be excited over a stove :rotfl2: .

Becky & momto1 - we got the note yesterday about the physical and dental exam required for 6th graders. Ugh, we did this all last year :headache: . There should be some sort of grace period to current 5th graders since they did the whole thing last year.

paint - I can't do White Castles...just something about them being called sliders. Can't get past that name :rotfl: . DH likes them though.

Anyone wait outside last night for Johnny Depp? Saw a bit about it on the news last night.

Well, I'm off to make the MD and DDS appts for the kids and get my load of laundry in the machine. Have a great day everyone!

Morning everyone! :flower3: not much to post today, except i'm in the single digit countdown and am no where near ready. i think i'm just stressed though with work and school and trying to get things ready. i have my clothes laid out and ready to be packed and have all my conformation numbers and misc. other papers in a folder (a disney folder to be exact  ). got my toiletries and whatnot sort of ready... i just feel like i'm forgetting a lot! anybody have any tips for me? oh and i'm nervous i'm getting sick, my allergies have been crazy the past few days and i don't want to be under the weather on my wonderful vacation:sad2:

on a good side note, i'm almost done with one of my projects... hopefully it will be finished tonight during class so i only have one project to work on this weekend!

for those of you talking White Castle ~ i LOVE White Castle... they actually closed the one by me so they could tear it down and build a new one... i don't know if the new one opened yet :confused3

well hope everyone has a wonderful day!:flower3:

White Castles is good for a snack, but not a meal. I also miss the old onion rings, they changed them and are not as good.

How on earth do they justify demanding that???

I mean, I'm not saying that kids shouldn't get dental or eye exams, but I just don't know how the schools/government think it's any of their business. With vaccines, it's a matter of keeping other kings healthy, but for dental and eye it just seems like way too much interferance. :confused3

Leigh - I TOTALLY agree!!! I do take my kids to the MD and DDS but it just bugs me that it is now required. Since when is it the government's job to parent our children?? Ugh, rant over.

Side note: Stove has been delivered. When the guys were installing they called me out, "there's a huge spider back here do you have any spray?". I look back there and it is one of those plastic spider rings you get at Halloween :rotfl2: .

So excited, just tried it out and one of the burners won't light :sad2: . Called service, after being transferred 3x they finally scheduled a technician to come out tomorrow?!? Well, at least the other 4 burners work and the oven is fine.

Howdy!!! :wave2:

I've been busy vacuuming and washing floors, and changing sheets today!
Moved furniture to vac and did the drapes.
Then I was :faint:!

Disneygal Are you on allergy meds? Over the counter Clariten works good, if you're not already taking a prescription one.
*Don't forget to bring along lots of $1 bills for tips.
*Save room in your suitcase by rolling your clothes. This also saves on wrinkles too.
*Write your daily itinerary and any ADR's and special notes of 'not to miss things' on index cards for each day and then laminate them so they can take a beating and not get soaked by water rides.

I could go on and on....but I won't!! ;)

irish dancer Our school's let you get a pass for 6th graders if you just had your 5th grader to the doctor.
But them making sure our kids get to the dentist is not any of their business. Even though we already take them regularly!
Congrats on the new stove! Hope the tech can fix the other burner easily!!

slo I got so busy yesterday afternoon helping Lauren with her school work and project that I totally forgot to look at my pics. I'l make sure to do it tonight!

piglet How many sliders constitutes as a "snack"?? :) :)

Bunchkin ~ For me it is 2, maybe 3.

I agree that I think it is unfair making all kids get dental and vision exams in order to go to school. I hope that there is a program (like with vaccines) for those families that can't afford it.

See...and here is where my issue is -- they no longer screen for scoliosis in the schools -- UMMMM....OK. THAT'S the one thing most parents *will* miss, they don't even know to be looking for it. It's also one of those things that if they catch it early enough it's quite easy to do something about it and it's all temporary but there are no symptoms really to even have you think to go get it looked at. However, if you don't catch it, it can cause other problems (oh that minor detail of squashing the lungs so breathing is difficult and other internal organs) and then you have to do something major that isn't temporary.

If little Johnny comes home and is having trouble seeing the board/squinting, etc... most normal parents are going to take him for an eye exam first thing. Then with the teeth (OK, so I'm bad with the 6 months cleaning -- but eventually the kids get there) -- I think most parents at least are having the kids brush their teeth.

However, I remember in Middle School having to do the dive test to check our backs in the locker room in gym class. DH never had to do that. He went to school in IL but in a private school -- his was caught too late to do anything about it. His is obvious. Carolyn's was caught at the 6th grade one but apparently not all doctors check -- when we talked to the nurse she asked how we found out and did a "Good for him" for the doctor with checking -- the way she said it made go :confused3 as I thought that was standard practice in the physicals but unless you are doing sports, you only get physicals in K, 5th(?) & 9th grade. Technically, if we hadn't thought DD was going out for a sport in 6th grade, we wouldn't have needed a sports physical and we wouldn't have caught it in time for the brace. We may be too late as it is anyway.

For that matter a lot of people don't even have a clue what Scoliosis is.

Oh well....at least with the vision screening DD says they are a piece of cake once you get glasses. Basically they ask the last time you had your eyes checked and go "Next" -- since the whole point of the screening is to see if you need glasses (and the screenings aren't very accurate! DD never failed hers. ;) ). I always hated the hearing screening growing up but those were always screenings. As of yet, the state hasn't required us to go get kid's hearing checked from a doctor before school -- what doctor would that be anyway? An audiologist? That might be next on the list.

They don't -- at least I haven't found them yet....I know I was looking the first time DH lost his job and we lost all medical/dental, etc... We are basically considered low income and I could not find a dentist to save my life the 1st time around (I had a tooth crack while pregnant with DS-4 but ignored it until after he was born -- that wasn't smart because it hit me one day some major I'm going to die pain from that tooth.) So, we just bit the bullet and use the credit cards for it and/or tax refunds depending on how much dental work is needed (for adults as well as kids). I had to pay out of pocket for all off DD's braces, for my dental implant I'm having done, for my molar removals & for all cleanings for the kids. Along with glasses -- we got really, really, really lucky the 1st time as LensCrafters somehow got us free eye exams/glasses the first time when life threw us a curveball they knew we were on state insurance but that was a 1 shot deal. Someone there knew how to pull strings as you are supposed to be referred through an agency and/or something -- it's not just an easy thing to do.

DH just had to get new glasses and that was $400 we had to pay.

DD will be needing some new ones I'm sure although in her case I'm probably going to spring for contacts somehow (I have no clue how but we will come up with it somehow) and as far as I can tell DS-11 doesn't need glasses no matter how much he begged us that he wanted them really, really, really badly and came up with all sorts of "reasons" he needed them....so I took him to the eye doctor maybe a year ago for all his "this is blurry if I stand on my head and spit nickels" stories. His vision was fine. Now in a few years it might not be but as of right now, he's fine -- he just wanted them because DH, me & DH have them. He hasn't said BOO to me about anything being blurry ever since the eye exam. :lmao: Amazing how much that doctor cured him with a simple test...you would think if something was still actually blurry he'd still be complaining.

Disgal- I, too, am looking forward to the end of the semester. just turned in a group project today. Still have lots of test and papers. I can see the light, though!
White Castles are one of my faves. There aren't any down here. You'd think they'd do well in a college town!
Hersey- You know, chocolate goes quite well after Whities. Salty/sweet combo!
Piglet- I know what you mean about the orings, but either they changed back or only certain places have the gross ones (remind me of ones from BK, made of minced onion). I had the gross ones a year ago in IN, but the one by Gurnee had the good ones!
tiggerrn- I need to make my ressies, too. I am waiting to buy airfare with my tax refund before calling, that way I'll know arrival times and stuff. Looking forward to Boma. I have never been!
Slo- On the subject of food, I will def. be trying the tonga toast this trip! Do I need to go to the restaurant or is the counter service just as good?

Glasses...we go to Walmart. They are really affordable.DS complained in K, we took him, and they didn't find anything. then, in 1st gr, he failed the screening! Now he wears glasses in the lowest possible prescription.
Dental...we got the note home, too, since they seemed to have lost ds' form! I just had the dentist fax one over, but he is not current with his cleaning (due last month). We just needed to prove that he had been to the dentist. Also, the note said something about dentists coming to the school to exam kids who were unable to afford it otherwise. Don't know if that is just our county or district.

Hey gang!
I was able to get DS a dental appointment for Friday. Great way to spend part of a day off from school and work. I downloaded the state approved form and felt kind of like big brother was watching! I will feel real bad if he has "untreated caries" and needs "urgent treatment"! I don't think so but...

Irish Dancer - Want to invite us over for a gourmet meal you will be cooking at the new stove? Enjoy! Or maybe you could pick up a box of frozen White Castles, cook 'em up and invite us over for some sliders.

Can you believe I would eat White Castles for my snack on the ride home from work while pregnant with ds? Not everyday! Maybe that is why I only have one kiddo!

Have you checked out the weather for the weekend? What is with 40's and rain/snow mix again?

Have a good one!
Lori

Too funny about the huge black Spider. I hope you saved the delivery people from that tarantula.

Yup the Dentist is now required for 6th grade. I do take Alex every 6 months but with busy schedules and me being stubborn I pushed it to the max. I got a call at work.:rolleyes1 Their reasoning is that you make a better student with clean healthy teeth :confused3.

I never could get on the wagon with White Castle. Alex's dad only once fed that poor boy there he will forever that mishap.

momto- WC is also a great bfast! I used to bring them to work for a chosen few and we'd eat them for bfast. Then, any leftovers would stink up the fridge. WC has a very distinct smell! I said dfiance was going to smell it on me and wouldn't be able to resist me. It'd be like that pheromone perfume!:lmao:

I am writing lots of checks right now. All the balances to various wedding stuff is coming due. However, I do have my tax refund and need to buy airfare. Any good deals right now? I usually fly SWest out of Midway.

i signed up with yapta.com and kayak.com.
i have been searching for airfare since january.

the prices i have been getting are higher than ever before for me.

midwest express has a great fare out of mitchell for the fall.
with ata going belly up, don't know who out of midway would be good.

i'm using united out of ohare.
american is over $400 for the same trip

i'm going early oct to columbus day night.

I loved having those storms last night - they put me right to sleep:)
Stephanie was/still is on our floor last night, but Katie never woke up - she is still warm and comfy in her bed. But she was super tired because she woke up early yesterday, didn't have time for a nap at work, and then got to bed a little later than I wanted. She'll probably really sleep in today :thumbsup2

Becky - Good luck to your DD on making the cheerleading squad:wizard: Let us know if she makes it.

Tigggggernnnnnn - I agree with you on people not wanting to take responsibility for things - it's very frustrating!!!! I haven't followed that story, so I learned the most from your post. I'm not surprised that My Space was involved - that place is like the black hole, and it scares me :scared:
**I"m sorry to hear about the free dining when your there - I hope the crowds aren't to bad for you
**We've never been to Bomas - what do your kids think of it?

ID - How's the new stove? It's always fun to get new things
**I loved the spider story - to funny!!!!! :rotfl:

DG - Try and not stress out  It will all work out, and you will have a wonderful time:goodvibes I'll send loads of PD your way so you don't get sick:wizard: and for you to get your last project done :wizard:

piglet and Leigh and HERSEY and Mac - :wave2:

Bunchkin - You don't have to find those pictures right away - I can see them whenever you get the chance :)
**I need to vaccuum/clean my drapes too ::yes:: We are thinking about getting new windows in this house, and when that happens, I will take everything down and take them to the cleaners (except the kids room - that I can clean myself).

paint - Where's your picture of the kids?
**You can get Tonga Toast at Captain Cooks, and it's just as good, and a little cheaper:thumbsup2 But Captain Cooks and The Kona Cafe are the only 2 places you can get it on property. I hope you like it, because I love it!!!!

momto1 - I did see the weather for this weekend :guilty: I realize it's only April, but I want it to be nice weather all the time NOW!!!! :)

Well, I gotta run and post my poll (I don't know what the topic is) and get ready for work. I hope you all have a great day today!!!

Morning everyone! This week I started an "exercise" regime, there are a couple of moms from DDs school that walk 3 days/wk at 5:30am :scared1: so I've joined their group. Ugh, I'm tired! It actually works out kind of nice, I get in 2mi and am home before anyone else gets up.

slo - stove is nice but I'm sitting here waiting for the repair guy because I can't get one burner to light :confused3 . DDs ended up sleeping together last night due to the storm, DS didn't even notice.

paint - Tonga Toast :cloud9: . We got it from Capt Cooks, saved us a TS credit as we were on the DDP. I haven't seen any airline deals, I'm hoping for a great DING on SW. I can get $99 1-way on AirTran but I'm holding out for SW, I wish they'd open their bookings past Aug.

Hershey - lol, I'm sure clean teeth will certainly help  .

Becky - I'm sure the hearing tests will be the next thing req'd ;) . I certainly remember those dive tests in middle school, never thought about it but MD did ck DD11 last year in her 5th grade physical. We were also req'd to take a shower after gym in middle school, almost everyone splashed water on their shoulders and went up to be checked :rolleyes1 .

momto1 - no gourmet meal here, lol. Fixed a turkey breast last night with Stove Top stuffing and broccoli. Not sure what I'll fix tonight. The oven has a slow cooker setting so I can use it like a Crock Pot, can't wait to try that option.

Well, the repairman will be there within the 1/2 hr so I've got to run and get the breakfast dishes cleaned up. Have a great day everyone, hopefully the sun will come out!
