good wednesday morning chicagoland homies

after today, only 2 more work days until the weekend....:yay: :yay:

Morning! Need to go to Nathan's book fair this morning, and then off to For Eyes to yet again get his glasses fixed. I have never had glasses with as many issues as these ones do. I kid you not, this is close to the 15th time I have had to take at least one pair (he has two, matching) in to be fixed since getting them in January.

Good morning, Chicago friends. Quick fly-by today...just to let you all know you are in my thoughts and also prayers...(how is your mom, Kirsten?)...

Happy Belated birthday wishes to the birthday peoples!

Brian's gf is still improving, and the plan now is for her to come home this week, and continue with outpatient therapy. Thanks, again, to all for your prayers!

Chris is still happy in Nevada...I am still wishing he could have found that same happiness in Chicago! (Overprotective mom that I am!)

I sure loved the weather this past weekend...who took it???!!!

Have a wonderful day, everyone!:goodvibes

Donna ~ She has her second session of chemo today. She remains upbeat, for the most part. I think shaving her hair was the worst emotionally.

So happy to hear his GF will be coming home!

Good morning everyone!:flower3: hope everyone enjoyed the storms last night! I did! :goodvibes Not much to update, still working on the projects and getting stuff ready! Luggage is out and ready! Has anybody made a lemon frosting before? My dad is going on a trip with a few of his friends this weekend (they leave tomorrow) and i told him I would make him some cupcakes for the drive! I have a lemon SPRINKLES cupcake mix and it reccommends to make lemon frosting. While i've made it before and let me tell you, they are delicious (the mixes are sold at Williams-Sonoma). It says to use lemon zest in the frosting but i was wondering if i could use a splash of lemon juice instead. what do you think?

ID ~ Good luck with the new stove :wizard:

Slo ~ I absolutely love storms and rain in general (as long as i'm not driving in it. They are so relaxing for me. I like to cuddle up on the couch and watch a movie or crochet or scrapbook... anything really! I love them! And thank you for the PD, I need it!

Paint ~ i'm sure you may have mentioned it before but where do you go to school?

Bunchkin ~ thanks for the advice! I'm hoping to get all my tips in envelopes before we leave so I can just throw them in the carry on and I don't have to worry about acciddentally spending the $$. I will definitely be rolling my clothes, I hate wrinkles! I pack a bottle of wrinkle release in my checked luggage just in case!! What size index cards do you reccommend? i have my itinerary complete but just on paper! Thanks again for all the help!

Wow, dental business around here must be good. Just called to get both DDs in for a cleaning and their first opening is in Sept :scared1: !!!!!!!!!! They put us on the cancellation list  .

disneygal922 I would stick with the lemon zest. The juice would change to consistency of the frosting and the taste is not the same.

Donna that's great news that she is going home soon. Glad Chris is doing well too

Slo- I took off the pic bc I couldn't see my ticker! Besides, that's an old pic.
ID- I like to exercise in the morning. it is nice to get it out of the way. keep it up! :) Air Tran- my good friend's h flies for them. So does his "player" friend. I won't name names...;)
DGal- ISU- I loved the atomoshpere at Harrington...the wooden floors, high ceiling, and windows. I love the city. I'd like to live there once the kids are grown (unless I unexpectedly become a millionare and can afford a nice house).
piglet- Continued:hug: . My mom had thyroid cancer a few years ago. they removed it, did some follow radiation, and she is fine today but has to be checked often. Both of her parents died of cancer, though, so I still worry. call me Captain Obvious, but cancer sucks! Kids and glasses- DS has some pretty news ones which are already bent. dd sat on his head.

Just over a week to my shower. I keep checking my honeymoon registry for disney. No purchases yet. darn it!

HI all!! :wave2:

Such a busy day for me. This is the first chance I've had to get to the computer.
I had a ton of paper work to do, phone calls, running errands.
And I just got done typing out DD's report she is doing on Sitting Bull.

One phone call I made today, actually started making calls yesterday, was to figure out a credit we were do on the cancellation of our service plan with our old van we sold in August. Totally slipped our mind to check on this. We knew it would take time to get processed and in the mean time we forgot about it.
Needless to say the dealership mailed the refund to our old address and the check was returned to them.....back in Oct!!! And no one ever bothered to call us to verify the address or even look at the sales papers for the new car to check the right address!!! :headache:
We cannot believe that happened!! This is our 5th car with them!!! And we have sent several other customers to them. Eveyone there knows us!!!
So shame on us for not following up, but double shame on them for not checking on the address and remailing the check!!

piglet Continued prayers for your mom!!

slo I did look for those pics on the computer last night. And they are not there!!! :confused3 I think I took them before I got my new camera and the new computer. So that means I may have them as printed pictures somewhere. I am going to look for them and next time I see you I'll show you!

That's good that Katie didn't wake up from the storm since she was already short on sleep. Unbelievably, both Laurena and Hunter slept through it. Hunter is scared of storms and I thought for sure I would get a visit from him.

paint Hope you're able to get good air fare! I love flying Air Tran! My kids and I like all the sassy signs they have and the crazy things the peanut packages say!!!

mac Good luck with getting good air fare too! Try Air Tran! I know it's at Midway but it might be worth the savings.

disneygal Maybe you could use a plain glaze on the cupcakes, which is really easy to make.
I think I used 4x6 index cards. I like to add extras to the cards, so I use big ones! Like reminders to check out certain hidden Mickeys, new rides, restaurants we haven't eaten yet. I'm a shopper too so I will remind myself to check out a certain store for something particular I'm looking for.

Donna Good to hear about Brian's GF!! I hope she gets to go home real soon!!!

irish dancer Turkey and stuffing sounds good. Did the repair man show up on time??

Bunchkin- When did Kermit get his sassy new saying? I hear his milkshake brings all the boys to the yard as well.

DD made the cheerleading squad -- HOWEVER -- ALL the girls that tried out made the squad...so it wasn't that hard of a feat to get on the team apparently. :cheer2: :rotfl:

I believe she said she thinks it was about 20 Freshman that tried out. All their scores were really close, so they all made it (they didn't tell them what their scores were at all -- so who knows where DD fell -- my guess is in the middle).

Cheerleading sure is different than I remember. I seem to recall not every girl that tried out made the squad but this is the 3rd year in a row, that everyone who has tried out has made it. Always makes me wonder why I have to scramble to get her to all these try-outs for them just to tell say "you all made the squad" -- then why not save me the hassle? I *think* it might get harder next year but maybe not, the apparently have a Sophmore squad too...then the Varsity level which might be harder?????????

I do know they have a competition team which is a totally different try-out from this and will be in October.

No wonder my DD looks at me as if I have a 2nd head when I always tell her that there is the possibility of you not making it. There's never been any cuts so she really never has to worry about it.

We have a parent meeting next week and I'm sure that will be about camp that's coming up this summer.

Looks like we are getting more storms today and tonight - welcome to Spring :umbrella:
I'm not going to complain though, because it's better than this :cold: and it brings this :flower: :teeth:

ID - I"m glad you like your stove :) Did the repair guys get that one burner to work?

Mac -

piglet - Are the glasses needing fixing because of Four Eyes or because of something your son is doing? The reason why I'm asking is because I used to get my glasses through my eye doctor, but I don't use him anymore, and I use my Opthomologist, and he doesn't sell glasses, so I'm going to need to go somewhere like Four Eyes. If Four Eyes keeps screwing up your glasses, than I'll stay away from them.

Donna - That's great news about Brians GF :woohoo: :yay: The power of prayer is amazing!!!!:goodvibes

DG - I would love to learn how to crochet. My mom used to do it, and my MIL does it once in awhile, but I would love to know how to make afgans. My mom used to make them as baby gifts, and people always loved them:goodvibes . I should ask my mom to teach my how.

paint - That makes sense about removing the photo. I'm so used to it, that it was weird not to see it.

Bunchkin - How frustrating about the dealership  They really should have checked with you. When I have a repeat customer, I always ask them if they moved and/or changed their phone number - it's just the right thing to do. I hope they get it right this time, and you get that check - it's always nice to receive a check :teeth: :goodvibes
**When you type Laurens report, does she still have to hand in a rough draft in her hand writing? Stephanie came home yesterday with instructions on a report she has to do, and it said that if she hands in the report typed, than she also needs to hand in her rough draft. I never heard of this before, but it makes sense.

Becky - Congratulations to your DD for making the cheerleading squad :cheer2: That's nice that everyone made it - no hurt feelings:)

Well, it's tiime to get rockin and rollin - have a good day today everyone!!

Slo ~ this is the first time we have ever had problems with For Eyes. I usually like them, even their eye doctor is real nice. I was not able to get there yesterday so I guess it will be tonight.

Becky ~ :cheer2: glad to hear she made the team. I can't recall if this is a school team or not. At my HS, and even the one my kids will go to, all freshman make all the teams.

Kevin was supposed to have a meet tonight, have a feeling it will be cancelled.

Good Morning Everyone!:flower3: hope everyone is enjoying this lovely weather!! I left my umbrella on the train last week and have been checking back everyday this week to see if it was taken to lost and found... no luck. so b/c it is supposed to get really bad this afternoon/evening i stopped at walgreens and bought a new one. it was only $3! but as i was taking the tag off it broke :sad2: it is still usable; it just has a bum spoke :confused3 whatevs!

ID ~ my dentist is almost impossible to get into. When i go for my 6month cleaning, i try to make my next appt in 6months and they are usually already booked :scared1: so it ends up turning into 7 to 71/2 months in between! Needless to say I NEVER cancel unless absolutely necessary... I planned my upcoming vacation around my dentist appointment actually

Hersey ~ the zest worked well! thanks for the input!:)

Paint ~ Harrington is nice! I really liked working downtown at first, now i'm indifferent. The days are really long with the commute! I used to want to live in the city and have definitely changed my mind. Parking is terrible and i like grass and my yard! and being able to breathe fresh air!!

Bunchkin ~ the frosting actually turned out to be a glaze/frosting mix... it was quite bizarre but turned out delicious! Thanks for the info on the cards, i'm hopefully going to get to them tomorrow night!

Slo ~ My mom taught me how to crochet a few years back. She knew all kinds of patterns and was awesome at it! She also taught me alot about scrapping and stained glass and knitting and jewelry making and pretty much anything crafty i know! I miss her alot! :sad1: for some reason the past few days have been especially hard, probably because i'm so stressed. :confused3

Is anyone's yards turning green yet? Trees budding?
We are going green here. I'm sure the rain will help that.

Lots to do today! And yet, here I am. :)

I was pretty peeved about the dealership not calling regarding the check. They call here often, it's an automated thing, where they let you know their service dept deals for the month. So they obviously have the new number. And they have mailed things here to us too. So no excuse is good enough really.
For this report Lauren is doing she is not required a rough draft. She did a lot of preliminary work and taking notes and all. But didn't write out a formal rough draft. They also need to dress up like their pioneer person and do a presentation. Maybe that's why no rough draft was required, the teacher figures she gave them enough to do already!!! And you have to give the report in first person form, like you're them!! Poor kids didn't even get to choose who they wanted to be, all the names of famous pioneers were concealed. And all the female ones were gone by the time she had her turn to pick. But she'll live!!

Sounds yummy!! I like anything lemon!

Bunchkin- When did Kermit get his sassy new saying? I hear his milkshake brings all the boys to the yard as well.

I thought the saying was appropriate since I've gotten so many pm's from people telling me Kermit looks HOT!!!

Good morning everyone! Having a hard time getting going today, seems like a good day to stay in bed :rotfl: .

Bunchkin - our grass and trees are starting to sprout. I'm glad the rain is washing away the yucky grey film on everything. Funny how the dealership has your number and address when they are trying to get you to spend more $$ with them but "accidentally" sent your $$ to the old address ;) .

disneygal - that's too bad about the umbrella. Hopefully the new one will keep you dry today.
**I do index card too but instead of laminating them I put them in one of those little photo albums, I got it at WalMart for about $1. This way I can reuse it for many trips and I put the card for whatever park we're visiting in the front cover for easy access.

slo - the repairman came out but didn't fix the burner  . He ordered a new part for it, the burner head wasn't flush and he thinks the gas is escaping there. I should have a new one in about 5 days, we'll see if that works.
I'd love to know how to crochet too. My mom knows how but never really did much, she was more of a sewer. My aunt though did tons of embroidery and crochet. She gave me a beautiful embroidered table cloth when I got married and an afghan with my first baby.

Becky - congrats on DD making cheerleading :cheer2: . I hate it too when they make you jump through the hoops for try-outs only to let everyone on the team....

Donna - great news about Brian's GF :cool1:

mac - did you make any dining ADRs for Oct? I'm waiting to hear from concierge on mine but there is a WDW Dining charge on my Visa so I think I got CRT  .

Hi to all our other Chicago homies!! :wave2:

Time to go, have to get DNephew into bed for his nap. Stay dry everyone.(insert smilie with an umbrella - couldn't find one :) )

:cool1: Kevin found out that he did get the scholarship for the Washington D.C. trip!!

What a yucky grey day yesterday :umbrella:
I don't think it's going to get any better for awhile :sad2:

piglet - Congrats to Kevin!!! :cheer2: That's awesome!!!! :woohoo: :yay:

DG - I'm assuming from your post that your mom has passed away:guilty: I"m so sorry to hear that? Many of us here have a loved one that has passed away, and that we miss terribly, and we are all here for each other :grouphug: If you ever need to talk, we are always here to listen:grouphug:

Bunchkin - Who is Lauren's pioneer character? The report sounds pretty cool, but also kinda hard. Good luck to her with having to do the presentation :wizard:
**Everything is starting to turn green here ::yes:: I love it!!!!:goodvibes

ID - I"m sorry your burner didn't get fixed :guilty: Are you able to still use the other burners and the oven?

Mac - My wet is soaking wet too ::yes:: I keep watching the creek across the street is fear because it's getting higher and higher

Well, I"m off and running
Have a good day today everyone!!!
