Makes sense to me. In other words leave early (about 8am to get there for opening) and plan on a long ride home too.

Slo ~ Have not heard yet when I'll start, I don't think she gets in until later today.

Hope everyone is ok after last nights storms. I waiting for daylight to see if anything is really damaged. I know I have large tree branch in my yard from my neighbors tree. I couldn't see much last night.

Alex and Minnie were pretty scared. It is hard to get my emergency stuff out with everybody under my feet. Luckily we only lost power for a very short time. It should be a very interesting ride into work this morning.

Slo How did you all do last night? I hope all is well there.

On a more interesting note we did get a desk at Ikea. You can't beat their prices. I got a desk, lamp, chair and desk topmat and misc other things for $200.00.

:surfweb:

This is a very quick post since I just woke up - very very late for me!!!!
Last night was a crazy crazy night!!!! I didn't get to sleep until 3am, or a little later, and poor Kevin didn't sleep at all. He went to his weekly FD meeting last night, and didn't get home until 2:45am. Then after that he stayed up watching our sump pump because the electricity was out, and he didn't trust the battery back up. He's sleeping now, and is not going into work today - he doesn't have the energy - him and the rest of the guys on the FD ran ALOT of calls last night!!!!!

The storms were very very bad, but we luckily didn't get as bad as a neighboring town. The tornado sirens went off at 8:30pm and we went downstairs. Than after that was over, I put the girls to bed, and I went to bed - this was at 10:45pm. I then woke up at 11:30pm to the tornado sirens going off again, and Kevin calling me on the phone demanding me to go downstairs. Him and another fireman spotted a tornado in our town:eek: Katie was already up, but I had to wake up Stephanie, and tell her to get downstairs NOW!!!!! Needless to say the girls were like this:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: The weather was really really unbelievable!!! We have a lot to be thankful for this morning, that nothing worse happened, and I have all the people that have damage this morning in my thoughts and prayers.

So....how are you all doing? I hope you all are okay too :grouphug:

Well, I"m sorry I'm not responding to everyone's posts, but I gotta run and get ready for work. Plus, I have to somehow get the girls up and ready for daycare after they've only received 5 hours of sleep. I wish I could leave them home with Kevin, but I know when he gets up, he's going straight to the firehouse to help with any clean-up around town that may be needed. Oh well, once the girls are at school, they'll be fine, it's getting them there that will be the problem.

Have a good day everyone!!!

Slo ~ I thought of you last night when they said the tornado warnings were in Indiana.

That was some scary stuff last night. Lightning usually does not bother me but last night was too much.

Morning all. Just a quick post to say hello. We are off to a friend's today to swim. Hope the sun comes out.
Hope everyone is OK after last night's storms. I was driving home from work in that nightmare. I had to pull off the road for a while to wait out the rain. It was coming down so hard you couldn't see.
Slo, glad to hear you are OK. I'll bet you had visitors to your room last night as well as I did. DS just can't stand storms.
Ticker is down to the teens now.:scared1: Guess I better start finalizing my days and plans. I need to put my order in to Garden Grocer, get my box of items together to mail down, and then double check my flights. :woohoo: The time is going by so fast.
Paint, hope you are having a grand time on your Disneymoon!!!
Later all.

Hi!

NO damage from the storms for us. All though, we thought we might loose a couple trees. Our trees are young and were bending almost in half!!!
Kids slept right through it. DS used to be the one scared of storms, but I think he has finally out grown it....thank goodness!!!

Glad those who've chimed in didn't have any real serious damage. ::yes::

Tiggerrn I love garden grocer!! They are so prompt in their delivery and nice too! :)
Are you planning on going to see Kit or Space Chimps at Marcus Theatre?

slo You guys must be so tired today!!! Glad there was no tornado by you. That would have totally freaked out both my kids if I had had to drag them out of bed like that and for that reason. :scared1:

Hersey Only Alex and MInnie were scared?? What was Hershey doing?? :dogdance:

Bunchkin Hershey was sitting on the couch watching the loons run from room to room before I yelled to sit down.:sad2:

Oh my, I can't believe I forgot to post this morning. Well, Good Afternoon Everyone! :flower3: Those storms sure were crazy. They started right after I got to Mike's for his sister's bday dinner. After work, I had gone looking at houses for my sister with my dad and her. Dad dropped me off at my car and was going to go get a beef sandwich for dinner. well, when the storms hit, I got all paranoid thinking he was going to try and run to the car and slip and break something (he has arthritis in his hip and knee). Luckily, he made it home just in time. I called him because I was so worried that he was still out.

unfortunately, i have to go to a meeting now. so have a wonderful rest of the day everyone! :wave2:

Evening all. Quiet here tonight.
Headed off to bed shortly. Still tired from the lack of sleep due to DS last night.
Bunchkin, we are planning to see Space Chimps next week. DD already saw Kit, and I don't see DS having any real interest in an American Girl.:rotfl:
What did you think of Kung Fu Panda? I laughed out loud a couple of times. Thought it was really cute-kids loved it!!! Did you trade for pins at DTD store or did CM Jean just hand you some? We went up there, but the kids didn't know they could bring their lanyards for trading so we had nothing to trade. CMs weren't giving anything away for us. We also only got 1 bag each. Guess they had enough left that the Sunday folks got extras.:wizard:
Piglet, have fun at Great America tomorrow. It looks like it should be a nice day for it.
Well, better get off to bed. I take my DM to her doctor tomorrow for her follow-up on her Altzheimer's testing and we get the results of the lab tests, MRI and her neuropsychology tests. I am not looking forward to this at all.:sad2:
Nite all!!

the storms missed us.
we didn't get rain and we really need some up here.

i heard on the news how bad it was for everyone south of us.

wow, that must have been scary.

good to hear you all are safe and survived those nasty storms.

hello to all the chicagoland homies ..............

Good morning! It is quiet out this morning after a quiet night.

We cut up most of the branches last night. Our garbage pickup is tomorrow, we will finish up tonight. The tornando in Bloomingdale is was pretty close to us.

Slo Glad Kevin and you all are safe. I bet Kevin was very busy yesterday.

I need to make more coffee I'm having a hard time waking this morning.

:surfweb:

It was good to get a good nights sleep last night:)
We were all exhausted in our house :faint:

Oh....my poor neighbors had their back yard tree struck by lightning:eek: They told me that as they were pulling all the branches out front for the tree chipper. Lightening that close is a little to close for comfort:scared1:

Today, I'm planning on going into work for a pinch, and then the girls and I are going to have some relaxing pool time. I haven't had a chance to hang out at the pool for quite awhile, so it'll be nice:goodvibes

piglet - That was a crazy amount of lightening ::yes::

Tigggggggern - I'm glad you made it home safe in that storm. I bet it was scary driving home in that  I did have visitors in my room - there was now way they were going to be alone with all that :sad2:
**Good luck with taking your mom to the doctor today - I hope everything goes okay:wizard:

Bunchkin - That's great that your kids slept through the storm the other night. My kids wake up at the slightest sound of thunder:rolleyes:

HERSEY - He was busy yesterday ::yes:: He will be getting a pretty nice paycheck this month :thumbsup2

DG - I"m glad your dad made it home okay - I would have worried too ::yes::

mac - I'm glad you didn't have storms. How are you liking your new windows?

Well, I gotta run and get some things done before I go to work
Have a great day today everyone!!!

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: woohoo for wednesday! that means we are half way through the work week!!! I don't know if I mentioned it here but mike and i are going on a long weekend vacation to Frankenmuth, MI. We just wanted to get away for a few days and when we saw this little town online we decided that is where we'd go! I'm excited. We leave next Thursday the 14th! Also, my nephew's 1st birthday party is coming up on the 23rd. I bought him a wagon. Anybody know where I can get some Mickey wrapping paper? I had found some a few years back but have obviously used it all up and now can't find any. :confused3

Slo ~ have fun in the pool today!:goodvibes

hello chicagoland homies.

hope it is dry for you now.

wish we had some of the rain that hit everywhere but here.

i swear, there must be an umbrella over my town.
we need the rain here

slo, it took 4.5 days and the windows are down.

found an oops with the weather stripping on the crank out downstairs windows but that is minor and will be replaced in a week or two.

finally able to have window!!

now the job will be to look for window dressing......ugh, i am no good at that.

only 2 more work days this week......yayyyyy

and this is coming from a homie that doesn't work outside the home during the summer time..

Evening all.
Disneygal, Frankenmuth is a wonderful little town. We went at Thanksgiving time one year many years back. All their little Christmas items were so much fun to browse about. I don't know what they have to offer in the summer, but have fun!!!
Slo, did you enjoy your afternoon of relaxation?
My mom's Dr. appt. went as I expected. Her MRI results show that she has had several little strokes over the years that have led to her memory loss. So while they are not saying Altzheimer's, they are saying a form of Dementia caused by little strokes. They have prescribed Aricept for her and an aspirin a day to try to prevent any further little strokes, recommended diet and exercise to help with her cholesterol levels, and to watch her blood pressure. She is to return in 1 month for an evaluation of how she is doing on the medications. The dr also recommended she have a driving safely evaluation which they do at rehab centers for seniors. If she passes that OK, she will not tell her she has to stop driving, but if not.:sad2: That will be the worst for her. Then she really will feel stuck to the house with nowhere to go, even though we are plenty able to run her wherever she needs to go. Guess we will see how this goes. Say some prayers for us.
Everyone got their school shopping for supplies and clothes done? I am having a hard time finding plain white, brown or black tennis shoes. The kids are not even allowed to have any stripes or color to them at all. I don't want to by a cheap shoe that is not good for their feet, but even Stride Rite, Nike or Sketchers all have something on the shoe.
Well, better get a move and get these kids off to bed. Later all.

Hi guys! I've been offline for a few days so I've got some catching up to do. While dd6 was away at camp I redecorated her bedroom. Painted the walls, sponged the ceiling to look like the sky, added a lot of knick-knacks and rearranged the furniture. She came home today and LOVES it (thankfully).

She was at camp in Big Rock, IL during all of these storms. I was a wreck but tried to convince myself they'd contact me in an emergency. She usually doesn't like storms here at home but told me they were awesome at camp :confused3 .

Having a VERY stressful evening tonight. In reading the boards I found a thread that I think has totally messed up our Oct. vaca. We are booked into AKV concierge level for 10/4-11, now reports are that all of those rooms are going to be closed due to outside renovations on the lodge and that people are being moved. I didn't find the thread until after Member Services closed so I have to wait until morning to call. First I had the issue that the kids are not getting 2 days off school that I thought they'd have so they are now missing a whole week of school. Then the problems with changed flight times on United. Now the potential that we're losing concierge services and being moved to another hotel......it's hard not to think this trip is doomed :sad2: .

I hope everyone is well and survived the storms. I think I'm heading to bed, maybe tomorrow will bring good news (fingers crossed).

:surfweb:

I really hate that it's darker and darker every morning when I wake up. I love it when the sun is already shining at 5:30am. Having the darker morning is such a wake up that summer is almost over:sad1: Which makes me sad, because everyone knows how much I love love love the summer!!!!!!:sunny:

DG - That weekend sounds great!!!!:goodvibes Have you been there before? When you are there, if you would, take a mental note to see if there's stuff there for kids to do. I'm always wanting to take a long weekend with the family, as long as there's something for my girls to do.

Mac - I"m glad the windows are done with limited problems. Good luck finding window treatments - that is such a chore!!! I'm so glad that I could use all the same window treatments that I already have, because I don't like shopping for those either:sad2:

Tiiiiiiiiiiigern - My day was pretty nice. It was very cloudy, so it wasn't as hot as I would have liked it, and I wasn't able to soak up the rays like I wanted to. But I layed by the pool and read my book when the girls played, so that was nice and relaxing :goodvibes
**I haven't even started shopping for school supplies - we need to do that soon. Stephanie starts school on 8/21 :teacher: When it comes to finding shoes, there's a place in Munster, In called Big-N-Little that may have those shoes. They are a wonderful little place that sells good shoes. If you need more info, please give me a PM.
**I'm sorry to hear about your mom with the strokes she had in the brain:guilty: Hopefully this mediciane will work, so her condition does get any worse:wizard: Please keep us posted!!!!!

ID - It sounds like you've been busy!!!! We need to redo both our girls rooms too, but we just haven't had the time. I'm hoping that once autumn comes, we'll have less to do, and we'll be able to get that done.
**I'm sorry to hear about your vacation problems:guilty: I hope when you call this morning, that the CM will be able to give you some answers on what is going on. Please keep us posted!!!!!

Well, I must get going and go for my walk and then get ready for work.
Have a good day today!!!

I use to live about 30 mins from Frankenmuth. I have been there so many times. Where are you staying? Make sure you do the chicken dinners they are the best! Bavarian Inn Restaurant is more of a German look and Zehnder's is more mainstream. You can make reservations to eat at either. Depending on the weekend you could wait up to an hour to get seated. Whenever I had a family member come and visit me in Michigan, I would take them there.

Do not miss Bronner's. You will need at least an hour or two to walk through. If you love Christmas you will love Bronner's.

In Birch Run there is a great outlet mall. I use to shop there all the time...oh I miss Frankenmuth.

Oh I almost forgot, Bavarian Inn Lodge is my favorite. We use to go there for get away weekends. They have 5 different pools, hot tubs a minature golf course and arcade.

I was just up there at Christmas...but I think it's time for another visit.

sorry I went on so much.

Anyway.............

Hello everyone.

Thursday morning and I have been so busy this week. I had to go back to the hospital on Monday. The doctor thought I had a blood clot so she told me to go straight to the emergency room. I was there during a lot of the storms. The lights were flickering Well at least if anything did happen I wouldn't have to go far to get medical attention...:rotfl2:

After almost 4 hours, I found out I did not have a blood clot. I just need to rest. That is hard to do as I have so much going on.

I think I have found my car. Dodge Caliber. It is not a fancy car but it's good on gas and with discounts and rebates it works. I hope to have it by the weekend.

I am glad to hear everyone is ok from the storms. Slo I would be freaked out if lighting was just next door from me. I wouldn't be able to sleep.

Well I should get going. It's employee apperication week at work and I need to bring my staff snacks. I am still not sure what to bring but I'm sure I will find something at the store.

have a great day everyone.:yay:

Good Morning! :sunny:

I'm thinking about turning the air off today since it will be slightly cooler and less humid this weekend. I actually turned it off last night! Great temps for sleeping with the window open.

We are going back to school shopping today. Mostly for supplies. The kids got lots of clothes in late spring that should do for at least a short while till the temps drop. DD and DS have both had a growth spurt over the summer. I know DD will need new jeans and pants. Maybe even new long sleeve shirts. DS on the other hand.....that kid grows in length but his waist is nill!!! I already had bought him a size 6 jeans from the Carter's store just to see how they would fit and thinking he might need that size this fall....they are the right length but they fall down off his non-existant rear end!!!

Disneynut Congrats on the new car! I like the Calliber! We are a Chrysler/Dodge family! Hope you bring good snacks to work!!! :)

Tiggerrn Sorry to hear about your mom. I sure do hope the meds help her stop having strokes. I can't imagine how she'll feel too if they suggest she stop driving. :sad2:

We loved Kung Foo Panda! All of us thought it was really funny. And Hunter can't stop saying the words 'oh, my tenders' when the phrase fits! BOYS!!!!
I think we are planning to go to Lego Discovery Center on either the last day of August which is a Sunday or Sept. 1 Labor Day. Probably Sept 1st because I think Lauren and I will be going to American Girl Place on Sunday to the theatre and maybe afternoon tea. Let me know if you think you could go to either of those! :thumbsup2

mac Glad the windows are in without too much needing to be redone. :)

disneygal Your weekend trip sounds really nice.....especially after disneynut described the local places to go to!!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes

irish dancer I hope all works out for your vacation!! At least if they have to move you, it should be to an equal type resort and room...with conceirge!! ::yes::
Your DD's room sounds cute!

Gotta run!! Kids aren't up yet and I need to go get ready still!

:wave2:

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: Thank you for all the wonderful suggestions for things to do in Frankenmuth! I'm really excited!

Bunchkin ~ have fun school supply shopping. That was always my favorite part of going back to school. That and getting my workbooks and doing as much as i can before classes even started.... i know i was the weird kid who actually LIKED homework (as long as it was writing a paper).

Disneynut ~ We are staying at the Marv Herzog Hotel. We just booked a couple of weeks ago and most places were full. This place got great reviews! Thank you so much for all the wonderful information. It is much appreciated! :worship:

Slo ~ I'm with ya on the dark mornings. I'm a total summer/spring gal. the winter darkness is so depressing. I will definitely keep my eyes peeled for things to do with the girls in Frankenmuth!

ID ~ I hope your vacation plans aren't screwed up!:wizard:

everyone else ~ :wave2: hope everyone has a wonderful day!
