Calling All 8/19/06 Special Western Cruisers! AKA "The Cruisin' Castaways" Part 2

Well Time will tell, Tomorrow night our school system will let us know what they are thinking for the 2007-2008 & 2008-2009 school calendar

So that will tell a lot for us what and when we might cruise.

A two week repo back home and some time in Disneyland is quite appealing even if we do have to fly.

Is anyone else frustrated that DCL does the special itineraries during the summer (I'm excluding the Wonder's southern Carib trips). The people who cruise in fall, winter and spring have the predictable eastern/western cruises but us summer cruisers seem to lose out. We "lost" our 7-day cruises in 2005, 2007 and now potentially in 2008.

Its not fair.

Put these special itineraries during the remainder of the year.

(that's my rant for today).

Terry....as I looked at all the Christmas decorations and other things in our house, I starting to believe I do need a 12 step program for my attraction to 3 circles and Mickey Mouse. I can't believe how many things we have all over the house. And it didn't help that I put hidden Mickey's in my powder room when I painted it. It is funny to hear people in the powder room counting and a new person trying to figure why they are counting. Then they usually yell out a number to see if they have them all.:rotfl2:

Been thinking,

If the magic turns out it will not be in the Caribbean for summer 08
I've been looking at a Holland America Alaska cruise
or maybe back to back wonder Cruise

Maybe in July or Early Aug.

Ed,

We used to cruise in early July but learned that late August is cheaper so we switched. (We learned that reading the Passporter guide). The cost of our cat 3 last August was the same price as a cat 4 in early July.

So we'll book the Wonder in late August. We're hoping the Wonder switches to a 7-day itinerary but if not we will definitely book a back-to-back to get our 7-day fix. I once read that somebody did a comparison and that booking 2 Wonder cruises cost more than a 7-day Magic cruise. But I could be wrong about that.

So we're still looking at the August dates in our countdown timers and will have to wait to see exactly what DCL proposes.

Personally, I'd like to see DCL repeat the double dip itineraries for the Wonder in 2008. That would be really neat.

The problem I am starting to find with Late Aug it conflicts with the start of school , The week of the 16th is the lastest and this may cut it close with the start of school in 2008

Hopelly the reports are incorrect and the Magic will be in the Caribbean in summer 2008 or the Wonder starts 7 or 10 day cruises

I Wonder, and no pun intended,
What if it isn't the Magic that goes West in 2008,

Maybe the Magic will be the only DCL ship in the Caribbean in summer 2008, just like 1998.

It certainly would make more sense to send the Wonder to CA and have the Magic celebrate her 10th anniversary in the Caribbean. And it would be weird for the Magic not to be visiting Castaway Cay during her anniversary summer.

Andy

Thanks for the update

Based on the news we have been hearing
I will not be posting a weekly countdown this week.

It looks like 2008 will not be good for a crusing castaway II

The other day I was reading a post (one of those speculating on 2008) and someone claimed that Captain Thord said the Magic would not be in the Caribbean during the summer of 2008.

If DCL decides to go back to California in 2008 then there is a good possibility that the two weeks we have been looking to book (Aug - week 3 or 4) would be part of a repositioning cruise.

1. What do you thing the chances are of this happening?
2. Would you book a 2 week Panama repositioning cruise?

For the record Missy and I would seriously consider flying to CA and take the cruise back as long as it didn't conflict with school too much.

I have never quoted myself before, but I had a gut feeling about this one. As long as the Repo is back to PC before Labor Day we will be on that ship.

I am actually very excited about the opportunity to be on a 2 week DCL cruise. I can convince my wife to fly to CA (we have done it once before) but flying to Barcelona to take the Magic back from the Med cruises is out of the question so 2008 is looking promising.

I actually made a request for a Cat 1 for either the 3rd or 4th week of 08/2008, but even if I get the call 2 weeks in a Cat 1 will be over 20k and that just is an insane amount of money to spend on a cruise.

BTW...Chuck Maida told me the last CA to PC Repo came back to PC the Saturday before Labor Day which works for us since school doesn't start until after Labor Day.

Hi everyone :wave2:

Even though some of us may not cruise in 2008, or may cruise with a different cruise line, I have not given up hope that eventually there WILL be a "Cruising Castaways - Part 2" at some point!! I like to think that many of us will sail together again one day!! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

I can't believe there is no hype of where the Magic will be in 2008. We knew about CA. and the Mex Riv cruises and we knew about the Med. Why is there no speculation about 2008?

I like Buddy Bear's idea of the repo back to FL if before labor day!

BTW, Doreen...I was promoted to manager January 1st!

Haven't you been following the threads on the cruise forum board over the weekend about the Summer of 2008 dates? Quite a bit of talk has been going on, at I think so. ;)

Hi Jeff,

Yes, the Magic did return Labor Day weekend in 2005, and "IF" we decide to take the eastbound repo, it will also have to arrive the Saturday of Labor Day Weekend in 2008. We've been "kicking" the idea around, we're just waiting for the official dates and rates to be announced.

If you guys do sail on the 14 day'er, don't forget and leave your laptop behind, LOL!!!:rotfl2:

I heard today the school calendar is set for 2007 & 2008

School will start on Wednesday, Aug. 29 this fall and on Wednesday, Aug. 27 in 2008 in Westport, Ct so Sat before Labor day dosent work for us. :(

OHHHHH Thanks Andy....I read the first page, seems that is all I needed to read. But dockspace was approved until 9/15/08, which means the repo would be after labor day.
If that's the case, I'll just try another line again or do RCCL if I just LOVE it in August.

In 2005, the dock space was listed from May 1, 2005 until September 15, 2005 but the Magic left LA on August 20, 2005. I think they have the extra time so DCL can get the port ready before the ship arrives, and then has it until the middle of September to give them time to clear all their stuff out.

The dock space for 2008 is also May 1, 2008 until September 15, 2008.
