Don't you think that kids on their first date should be a little older than, say, 8?

Seriously, a woman I know told me her second grader went on her first date. I even asked, "did you really call it a date?" and she said yes. The girl had her mom ger her a new outfit and she wore high heels! The parents all took pics to record the event, and then the girl's parents took them to a restaurant where the kids had their own table.

uhm, excuse me, 8!!?!?? i was 15 when i went on my "first" date. wow, i just can't believe some parents today.

I know it totally amazes me how a lot of parents seem to think it is so cute when kids think or actually are I guess dating at such a young age. I have one friend who goes out and buys valentine gifts for her boys girlfriends and this started when they were in 5th grade. I know they exchange christmas gifts too. I just dont know why you want to encourage your kids to think about relationships this early.

OMG, that's crazy!!!!

Now my dd who is now 4 is a major flirt. When we'd be out to dinner & she'd see boys she would flirt with them & say they were her boyfriends & that they were on a date, but that was all talk. She's not gonna be dating until atleast her teens!

Seriously??!!

Do you live in West Virgiania or Arkansas??? You know hillbillies like to marry 'em off young!!!!

All joking aside this is truly demented....wouldn't you want to discourage your children from looking to relationships as the answer to all questions??!!!

That's ridiculous! My first date wasn't until I was 16 :scared1:

Wow. I wasn't allowed to date until I graduated high school (my mother didn't want anything interfering with my studies). I snuck out a few months early though. ;) But 8???? Geeze.

Gah, that's crazy.. My first date wasn't 'till I was 14.

i flirted with my waitor Guiseppe when we were at WDW in Italy a few months ago. course, i was 22 and engaged at the time(still am, incause you're wondering) but that's a little different. and i know that really had NOTHING to do with anything, but i had to mention it.....because that man was just gorgeous!

We are fighting that right now and have been the past few years.

We have some Boys who parents seem like they are in a real hurry to make their boys men. They even try to force through guilt after we have explained our position plenty of times.DD's class is small and I know there is pressure but come on they are 12-13 age range.

The one mother even suggested that one of the girls (not mine thank god) just spend the night as it would be easier bringing them back from a late movie. They were going to just drop them off at an 11:00pm movie and come back and get them. They are both 12.
Another wanted them to go on an overnight ski trip sorry don't think so.

This is one thing that I will spare DD of the way I treated girls when I was that age and just plain stupid.

You are too funny!! Any pics to share, hmm???

Anyway, thanks to everyone for reassuring me that I'm not the crazy one (at the moment, anyway). I don't usually swear, but I came pretty close to saying *** to this mom!

Wow. Just wow. 8 years old. Wow.

I'm 13 and I still haven't gotten a boyfriend/been on a date.

Before you make fun of my state, you should probably learn how to spell it correctly! ;)

Regarding the topic, 8 is too early! I don't care if the parents went along as chaperones. Let kids be kids, not teenagers.

I agree. That is ridiculous! Is she expecting grandbabies when her daughter's 13? I was 15 when I went on my first date. I would assume that my daughters will be the same way.

8??? That is disgusting.

I was not allowed to date until 16 and I think that is a fair age.

:lmao: :rotfl: Nothing like keeping your dfi in line! :thumbsup2 My dd then 3 flirted with just about every male she met. She has this "bat your eyes" thing going for her. People just eat it up. She's even been known to go over & sit next to males that she likes. (Of course we don't encourage that at all in case anyone is wondering:lmao: ). My ds is in high school & goes to an all male school which my dd loves. A couple of times when dh has taken her there to pick ds up she stops off & sits with groups of guys to dh's dismay! The funny thing is she doesn't really talk to them she just sort of looks at them, but with the little ones her age she goes up & them. Kind of scares me wondering how outgoing she's gonna be when she's older!:sad2:
