CALIFORNIA sign.. is it still there?

Hello.

I thought I heard somewhere that they are taking the "CALIFORNIA" sign away? You know, the big letters in front of California Adventure? Is that true? Is it still there? Or will they be taken down? Or have they already been taken down? I hope that is a rumor or a misreading somewhere.. Please let me know.. I like those big letters and would love to have pictures taken by it. Thanks.

Details: The current main entry turnstiles to Disney's California Adventure and the CALIFORNIA letters will be removed and new turnstiles/gate styled after Los Angeles' Pan Pacific Auditorium will be constructed in the current location of the CALIFORNIA letters.
Project Status: To begin 2010
Open Date: By spring/summer 2012

Aaahh... that's probably where I read it from! I think I've read so many of your posts.. so informative.. Thanks for answering.. Okay.. we better take pictures of all the letters then on our trip! Too bad they are taking it down.. love those letters!

The "official rumor" says the "C A L I F O R N I A" letters will be taken down in October 2010:

"... In October the massive makeover to DCA's main entrance will get underway, and Buena Vista Street construction will begin from the existing California letters all the way past the Sun Plaza. ..."

Me too! We always take pics of each of our kids by their first initial....and the letters are candy canes when we go. I love seeing how they are getting taller each year.

I wonder what will be there in Nov when I go? Probably just construction walls, I guess. Oh well, I'm not that bothered about the front. I just looking forward to what's inside. ToT, here I come!!

Yeah, i love the letters too! I would totally buy the candy corn A on ebay to put in my front yard!
The new entrance plans look so blah to me! It looks just like the entrance of MGM studios. And I will miss the giant hubcap! Our first summer here in CA, my oldest was 2 , and chased the water from one end of the fountain to the other for a good 15 minutes.

I agree with you. I thought I was the only one who might be thinking that the new entrance just looks kind of blah, glad I am not alone on that. I will truly miss the letters, however as I said in my earlier post, I am really hoping this project gets delayed and the candy cane letters are up in Dec. That would rock.[/I][/I]

I agree with you. That's why I asked in the first place. I like those letters.. plus really adds to the "California Adventure" theme I think. You're not the only one who will miss them.

I'm also very disappointed about the change. Judging from the sketches I've seen of the new design, I will miss the current layout very much!
