In Birnbaum's Disneyland guide, there is a tip that says something to the effect of "California Screamin' wreaks havoc on digital cameras" and to leave it with a non-rider or stash it in a locker. Is this for real? Anyone have an issue with a digital camera carried onto California Screamin'?

The last time we were there both my friends set theirs to movie mode and recorded the entire ride. No problems. . .

I agree with DM. Never had a problem with a camcorder or a digital camera.

Agree with the two above. Never had an issue, and also used my camera to shoot the ride once.

Yep, no problem. If you don't want to use it while riding, there's a neat little storage thing in the front of your seat with a velcro cover so you can store it in there and it will be fine..

Thanks. I couldn't figure out why CS would be a problem but R'n'R wouldn't...or any other ride for that matter.

wife had more problems with her camera on its a small world. something about exiting the ride and camera falling into the water

yeah it was not funny especially on day 2 of 4 so this trip we are taking multiple digitals just in case. but i will saythat the insurance they offer on your camera may be worth it. wife got it and i thought it was a scam. well she took the camera in and they didn't carry hers anymore so she got upgraded and the upgrade was cheaper than her was originally so she got a gift card for the difference.

OMG, I thought my mom was the only person who did this. She'll be happy to know she's in good company. We were on the holiday tour and she thought she had the camera strap around wrist. She lifted my daughter out and the camera must have been stuck between them because it fell right out of the boat and managed to fall in the water in the 1 in space betwenn the boat and the dock. They had to move the boat forward and our tour guide got it out for her. The memory card was fine, but the camera was shot.

its a matter of losing it and/or destroyed when you let it go at a certain point. Its is widely discouraged by Disney to leave it for when you do drop it, it may very well fall on someone and injure them gravely. I for one was an ex Ride Operator at Knotts Berry Farm, let me just say, i have seen $200 Digital camera and cellphone completely deintegrated in matter of seconds when the guest drop it from the ride.

OMG...HIGH-LARIOUS! :rotfl: :rotfl:

(I know at the time that must have sucked, and that's something to think about when deciding disposables vs. your nice 500 Olympus.)

just secure it, nothing in it should be jarred from going upside down, or bring a chicken like DS11 to hold it for you while you ride no worries!

We have taken our camera on that ride, usually in DBF's cargo pockets or in my sling bag then stuffed into the tiny bag on the ride but we've done it. No problems....

I quickly asked DH (broadcast engineer), who said that a digital movie camera could have probs when recording to a hard disk as the movement could shake the heads and damage them permanently.

As to a still camera, all we would think of is that the insides of some are very fragile and moving around a lot could damage the insides.

Edited to add
- DH just had an additional thought, if the camera was writing to a SD card for example, and was shaken hard enough to disconnect it during a ride the card could be permanently damaged.

I didn't have a problem with my digital camera & have the film clip on you tube (under maryjomw). :)
