California Adventures: Where do you like to eat?

Pacific Wharf best by far! Get the new Chinese salad, it's great!

Please, can you tell me if that salad had anything to do with sesame seeds? Several years ago my hubbie and I were at a Ducks game and he felt sooooo ill from a salad he had eaten at a restaurant on Harbor Blvd that day... I was terrified he wouldn't be able to get on the plane the next day (he was soooo sick, sickest he's been in his entire life) - but he did. To this day, he can not stomache anything that has sesame seeds or sesame oil in it.

Green beans are never good. Ever. ;)

Thanks for the pics and all the suggestions.

Hooo yah. I agree with that. I didn't even see the prior post, will look now, but yep... green beans. Nope.

From now on guys, I am going to multi-quote, honestly!! This thread is WAY too good!! (Or green-bean bad? :lmao:)

By far my favorite place to eat while in CA is White Water Snacks. It is only a few steps inside the Grand Californian entrance and has a ton of choices. My favorite is the icee with free refills (I am an icee freak) and the beef nachos.

Although, when I was there last week they were out of beef :confused3

But still great different choices for adults and kids!!

Can you tell me, were the beef nachos (beef) seasoned? Or did you get the impression the beef was just fried up without seasoning... thanks, if you know. Our impression at the WWS wasn't as good as I had hoped- we had gone in the evening; the Mickey Pretzel was SO dry it should have been sent back (we didn't bother. We threw over half of it out, it was that old/dried. Maybe just over-baked, but poor quality none-the-less.) The pizza tasted like it was dry, as well. Wasn't too bad though, the crust was nice and thin. Salad, tossed side, seemed really sparse. We couldn't find any menu for nachos at all, it seemed very basic... does a person have to ask for the things we know they serve and that others love, or do they change the menu from time to time?

Our number one choice in DCA is WWS in GC.

Chicken nachos (almost everything on the side)

Hot Dog with fries (chili on the side)

DD11 and I shared the chicken sandwich and upgraded to onion rings at Taste Pilots Grill and it was pretty good. The onion rings were delish!

BBQ Chicken Sandwich-Taste Pilots has a condiment bar with all the fixins.

Haven't eaten at Award Wieners but I hear good things about it.

Finally tried Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill recently for the first time. My experience wasn't great. I had to return my Fire Grilled Citrus Chicken - 1/2 Chicken seasoned in a savory marinade of cumin, garlic, cilantro, lemon and lime served with warm flour tortillas. $13.49 since the chicken wasn't served hot. I returned it to the window and they replaced it with another lukewarm chicken. :scared1: On the 3rd attempt they finally gave me a hot one. The CM at the window said the temp was around 175. I said, on the returned one, he said no, on the new one. What was the temp on the returned one? About 115! Too scary. Next time I want chicken I'll get the 1/2 fried at Plaza Inn.

Soon there will some new choices in DCA. I imagine the new Pizza Pasta place will be similar to Pizza Port (hopefully) If so there should be some good choices there.

I haven't been to Wine Country Trattoria since they reopened with new menu mostly because they got rid of my favorite thing there, the Pizzetta Salad. So now we make it at home.;)

Also, it literally only takes a few minutes to cross over from DCA to DL. So if you don't see something you like at DCA you can go into DL. Perhaps for the Fried chicken at Plaza Inn?

Ask for double mashed potatoes. The green beans are never any good.:confused3

SCARY that the chicken was lukewarm!! Kitchen Nightmares!! WHAT would Gordon Ramsay have to say about that? ;) Thanks for the heads up... the fried chicken at plaza in is home made, and VERY good!! I agree.

Edited to add: and NOW I see the $9.99 nachos, listed as always. What sort of California Screamin' high was I on at the time? I tell ya, the rides can really mess with you. ;)

I agree with others. My faves are taste pilots grill and the mexican restaurant near the pier, Cocina Cucmonga, I like their chicken soft tacos monterey, good portions and tasty!

Can you tell me what's in a chicken soft tacos monterey? Sounds good! Is it just a chicken taco in a soft shell torilla with cheese? It is kind of like a fajita? Thanks! :goodvibes

My bf and I enjoyed Wine Country Trattoria when we went. I noticed that the menu has changed, but the lasagna rustica that I had and thoroughly enjoyed is still there. We tried the corn chowder at Pacific Wharf Cafe and weren't too impressed, but I would like to give it another chance by trying the broccoli cheese soup or the chicken apple salad. We also love White Water Snacks. Try the breakfast there!

Thank you for your review on WOC @ Ariel's Grotto - I am thinking getting the fast passes first thing at Grizzly River Run will be the way to go.

If we bother to see WoC again (for our third time - oldest DD refuses since they took out the only part she liked - the TRON segment), we'd just get Fast Passes again as we did our first. The preferred viewing area for the meals wasn't all that much better than HydroGuy and the rest of the DIS boards "worst" viewing area when you are a shorter person.

I'm 5'4" and my youngest DD is 10 years old. She's too big to be held by a parent for the entire show and too short to see much of anything unless we're RIGHT in front or at the very back. For our preferred viewing area we were smack dab in the middle even though we got there 5 minutes BEFORE the tickets said we should arrive. We got lucky and moved back and up the steps a little so youngest DD and I could actually see over some people's heads, but our view was about the same as our previous viewing where we got regular FPs and got there late because we weren't sure where to line up for our specific viewing spot.

The meal was mediocre at best and didn't warrant the price for a slightly better (by some people's standards) viewing spot.

The cast members were fantastic though and one meal was even swapped out when oldest DD didn't like the meal she chose. She chose the pasta with italian sausage which she only ate two bites of and wouldn't touch again. She's really not THAT terribly picky, but when our server saw she didn't seem to care for it she offered to bring her something else. DD chose the mac n cheese from the kids menu which they made a HUGE portion of and dressed it a little more adult (with freshly grated parmesan cheese instead of goldfish crackers). DD loved it and the Vegetarians at the table all said they wished THEY could have ordered that instead! :)

We had a great WOC dinner at WCT..all the food was tasty, service was super and we got the rail for viewing so it was just perfect...and the glass of wine I bought next door to WCT and took into viewing area didn't hurt :)
At WWS my DH and I always get the breakfast burrito and share..it is HUGE and very tasty. DH gets a cinnamon roll to supplement..Only complaint, the cinnamon rolls were smaller last time..no longer dinner plate (or about ) size.
