Ok, so you hated the Monkees...
The plans for DCA's X Games events this summer continue to take shape. Plans are being made for large jumbotrons to be placed in the Main Entrance Plaza
in between
Disneyland and DCA. The jumbotrons will play recent clips and highlights from the X Games, and the entire plaza will be festooned with X Games
banners and trendy signage. The hope is that the Entrance Plaza will really "sell" this event as soon as arriving visitors disembark from the parking lot trams,
and that some people who were headed to always-busy Disneyland will choose DCA for the day instead.
A large bungee jumping tower is now seriously being considered for the Condor Flats area in the plaza in front of Soarin' Over California. Rock climbing walls
and all sorts of other skateboard and sportbike ramps and jumps will be set up all along the DCA parade route. The ESPN folks are trying to convince
Disney's legal department to allow young DCA visitors to try on inline skates so that they can skate through an official X Games skate course (that would be
tamed down just a bit obviously). It will be a bit ironic if they allow the inline skate course to be built just 6 months after TDA lost out on the memory-making
opportunity of the decade by not allowing DCA visitors to "ice skate" with the Disney Characters beneath DCA's Christmas tree this past Holiday season.
The loud dirtbikes and motorized sports (dubbed "Moto-X" by the X Games folks) will be taking place out in the arena to be built in the Timon Parking Lot,
to try to minimize the noise inside the Park. DCA Park managers are now resigning themselves to the fact that this Timon Lot arena will be ugly and quite loud
however. And there's no telling what the local motels that ring the lot will think. Imagine trying to take an afternoon nap break with your overexhausted kids
with the sounds of the nearby motocross going full whoop.
