Cake Bake Shop at the BoardWalk is now open

I hope people dress a little upscale in that place. Would kill the vibe a little bit if its all park attire. Then again for those prices, I would assume most people would be going there for a special dinner etc
Now you know that will never happen 🤣
V&A changed their dress code to accommodate those who couldn’t wear a jacket for a few hours 🤷🏽‍♀️

ESPN Club and Cake Bake Shop-talk about 2 ENTIRELY DIFFERENT WORLDS having a history in the same building!!!!lol

Damnit.

They are gonna get me to buy one of those $23 pieces of cake at some point, I know it 🤦🏻‍♀️
I might need to go and split one with a friend for our trip late next year...I couldn't ever finish a full slice anyway, and somehow $12 to split with a friend is a bit easier to swallow than $23 on my own...:rotfl:In truth though, I'm more likely to pop in for a piece of fudge or a truffle if they're said to be good!

This was also posted today on Facebook!! 😂
Yeah funny...

It won't come to that... I expect they have room to play with prices to make them more acceptable to a wider market. But we don't really know if that's going to be needed just yet. Personally I don't see eating there... but I don't see spending money on other things that plenty of folks will jump at doing.

Most resturants that fail... it's not really the prices, but the quality and the service that really put an end to them. This isn't a Denny's... ;)

Between the décor, the crazy prices, and the fact that they spell Chicken Salade with an "e" at the end, this place practically screams pretentiousness.
I wonder if they spelled it that way to differentiate between the item that is a salad, and the item that is a sandwich. With the different spellings it may make people look at the menu a little more closely to be sure of what they are ordering.

I don’t like salads, with or without chicken, or chicken salad sandwiches, but I did get confused reading some of the reviews until I realized they were two separate items.

Had a lovely dinner at the Cake Bake Shop tonight! The bloggers will post plenty of pictures better than mine so I’ll leave that to them. I just wanted to give my impressions based on my actual experience.

First of all, make no mistake, Cake Bake is in the signature restaurant category despite also offering of breakfast and luncheon fare. The inside is gorgeous, just as upscale as Citricos or Flying Fish, but in its own way. I was expecting it to be in-your-face feminine, but the style is actually more classy and elegant than flowery, with lots of sparkling crystal details. The menus are in large leather-bound covers and the table settings are classy and elegant. No corners are being cut here, the details and ambience are impeccable. This place is appropriate for a nice date night, a special brunch or dinner with friends, or just bit of special personal indulgence.

The service was very attentive and also on par with a signature. My meal courses were perfectly timed and my glass was always full. I ordered an arugula salad and the roasted salmon entree, and everything was well prepared and delicious. If anyone was wondering, the entree came complete with a side of asparagus and some smashed and sautéed fingerling potatoes with delightful crispy edges. It was a good amount of food and a full meal.

I also tried two of the cocktails, the Sazerac and the Cosmo, which were both well-made and on par with a signature restaurant, or even better. I think people will find favorites here and come back for them. I really enjoyed mine.

Despite the price, I did try some cake. Because: Cake Bake Shop. Disclaimer - I normally don’t eat cake because most cakes are way too sweet for me. All I can taste is sugar, artificial colors and flavors, and gobs of sugary frosting, ugh. (Looking at you Disney cupcakes.) However, based on recommendations from my Indy people, I ordered the Earl’s Court Chocolate Cake.

The slice was huge and dense, and could easily be split into three regular-sized servings by Disney standards - one layer per person would be about right.
Sorry, I did not have a measuring tape to give exact dimensions. The cake and buttercream were (thankfully) less sweet but more flavorful than typical retail cake or the usual Disney cupcakes/cakes. I could actually taste the premium chocolate, vanilla, butter, and other ingredients, which was a pleasant surprise. IMO it was quite excellent, for cake. YMMV. Good thing I liked it because I have 2/3 of it left in my mini-fridge right now. But it was a fun experience, so I’m glad I tried it.

Some posters further up the thread have questioned the inclusion of gumbo and crab cakes on the menu, as well as the French spellings of some menu items. My server told me that the owner is originally from New Orleans, and that she has brought many New Orleans and French influences to her menu and her food, hence the menu items and spellings.

Anyway, I had a delicious and enjoyable dinner in a beautiful restaurant. Its cost including dessert was similar to other Disney restaurants in the same category. I hope Cake Bake is a success, because it adds life to the Boardwalk. And I can’t wait to see it all decked out for Christmas!

Wow, great to hear! Might have to try a meal there, in addition to my usual style of bakery grab-and-go run. 👍

It seems very out of place at the Boardwalk area, and is too expensive. Looks much more Grand Floridian!

You might be surprised. The main dining area features a large, ornate carousel frame beneath the rotunda, which gives off distinct whimsical-fun/upscale carnival vibes very much in tune with the theming in the Boardwalk Inn lobby and pool area. It can be seen from all around the restaurant through the many glass windows dividing the seating areas.

I was told that they hope to have the carousel “working” by Christmas. It sounded as if maybe they will be incorporating some moving or animatronic elements. Perhaps on top of the crown, I don’t know. But that would make sense so it could be seen from all around.

Whether Cake Bake would fit in at the GF is a moot point, because it is a large restaurant, and there is simply not space for it there. The GF already has two signature restaurants plus a mid-tier and a character meal. The Boardwalk had the space, plus a turn-of-the-century theme. This restaurant was clearly designed to fit the space that was available while retaining its own distinct Cake Bake character.
