Caitlyn Jenner

I rather like that she is not hiding in shame. It should bring hope to others who may be suffering with the same issue. A lot of good can come from her being so public with the change. You can do things publicly for the right reasons, and not just to have people throw money at you.

My thoughts exactly.

Well, I am a young person, but that just means that I've spent more time being aware of the LGBT+ community and therefore I DO know more about the terms and etiquette. I stand by my original point. This media surge is an educational moment for those generations who have not been aware of the trans* community. It's time to stop making snide comments or gossiping about these issues and start learning what it's like to be in a world where more and more people are brave enough to come out regardless of what people say. I'll stop being 'pedantic' when trans* people stop killing themselves because they're too afraid of being attacked for who they are.

How old do you think we all are :rotfl2:

While I agree that suicide is a serious issue, I'm not sure you are preaching on the right platform here. Caitlyn isn't going to be bothered by some people on a Disney message board referring to her as he. Like a poster said, She has been a very public HE for decades. People are going to say what they are used to saying, there really is no other meaning behind it.

Like I said before, she says she is 19. Her further posts just prove my point that most teens that age think they know everything.

All I know is that a bunch of people ganging up on someone on a message board and using personal details about them to justify their condescension is pretty silly and counterproductive. Good thing I can move on and go back to the boards that don't have people like this in them.

I'm happy when anyone is able to live their life freely and too it's fullest potential. Caitlyn is a perfect example of that.

But something is bugging me. Bruce was a horrible father to his oldest four children. It's very well documented. The oldest said in the VF piece, “I have high hopes that Caitlyn is a better person than Bruce. I’m very much looking forward to that.” The same website where I first saw the Caitlyn article also runs non-stop stories about Bruce's youngest daughter Kylie. She is 17, a high school dropout, dates a 25-year-old rapper and posts provocative pictures of herself everyday dressed like a streetwalker.

What is Caitlyn doing for Kylie? Will she be there for her, like the stable mother-figure she apparently needs. Or does Caitlyn only care about herself and her lifelong struggle with gender identity? Just wondering.

Lol I also find it funny when people come out as something, they suddenly have to be great people too. Just because Caitlyn is sharing this event with the public, even though I still think it's because of the media mostly, does not mean she's going to be a saint or that she even has to be. It also doesn't mean she HAS to donate to lgbt organizations. These are really just normal people, as abnormal as their situation may be to some.

Oh dear... I hope I wasn't lecturing by sharing my opinion. :P

Past behavior is a great indicator of future behavior, regardless of what the outside looks like.

Don't you know you can't say mention any of that without being accused of all kinds of things?

I think that's a huge part of what makes me eye roll over this whole thing.
I have no problem with Bruce becoming Caitlyn but the idea that everything negative is suddenly erased is a huge load of you know what.

A fame bore and a lousy parent. Not so admirable...imo.

Take care how you speak! You might upset the official council of DisboardLGBT rights.

Also, please state age next time. You are only correct if you are older than 20.

Guys, come on. Let's just move on-- BOTH sides. Must their be an argument on every communityboard post? Go look for an ADR or something, all of you ;)

Marry me!

Oh wait, that's going to cause people to stroke out. . .

For me, Bruce will always get a pass for being in Can't Stop The Music. A camp classic!

So a person can't be admired for one part of their life if they've done something bad in the past? That would ruin a TON of admired historical figures reputations.

Not that I'm saying she should be admired. Just not sure why being a ****ty parent is important to the topic of her name or transition...

I'm sorry, but I feel compelled to comment on this Vanity Fair look. Skimpy lingerie for your first coming out shoot? Tacky and completely classless. Whoever did the makeup should be fired. Her face is as white and pasty as can be. The hair extensions look OK (a bit Medusa-like), but remember, anyone can be made to look this way for the right price. It just screams 65 trying to be 30 to me. Blech:crazy2:

So we are only allowed to discuss her transition now that she has appeared on a magazine cover? Nothing else from Bruce's past is allowed because she's now Caitlyn?

Bruce' s children/ parenting are addressed in the VF article.

Yes. I now own this thread and you have to discuss what I want. Obviously.

No. I just didn't understand why we were discussing whether she can be admired or not for being open about transitioning because she was/is a bad parent. Not sure why being a crap parent means she can't inspire other trans youth to accept themselves.

Apparently we aren't allowed to discuss anything. We should all forget that Bruce has been a public figure for the past 40 years and made his person life very public on a TV show. We now can only talk about how wonderful and inspirational Caitlyn is.
