Caitlyn Jenner

He's really well tucked and cinched. But I admit, except for the duck lips, he looks better than I thought he would.

She looks airbrushed. But that's magazine covers for you.
I think there were hours of makeup artists for the face and body, duct tape, body cinching, hair extensions, and possible spackling going on for that photo shoot. There is no way it says, "This is the REAL me." There is nothing real about it. It is beyond contrived. I would have rather seen the REAL person as a "work in progress." That is why I say it may backfire. It is a fantasy shot that in no way represents the reality of the situation as it stands to day or as it may every stand. With that sort of effort, most 65 year olds could look like this year's Playmate of the Year. But the next morning, reality sets in. I think it would have been better to have waited until nearer the end of the process for such a photo shoot.

Bruce probably didn't change his gender for money or fame but he certainly set it up to get all Caitlyn can out of it.
A huge dislike about the Kardashians is how everything they do is orchestrated to keep them in the media. I think many people thought Bruce was above that. He was part of the Kardashian but just went along for the ride and it was really Kris and the girls behind it all.
The way this is all going down is exactly what you'd expect from the Kardashians and it's a little disappointing to see Bruce wasn't really much different from Kris when it comes to media attention.

Also, people with money and fame often do all kinds of things to stay in the spotlight.

I rather like that she is not hiding in shame. It should bring hope to others who may be suffering with the same issue. A lot of good can come from her being so public with the change. You can do things publicly for the right reasons, and not just to have people throw money at you.

Yes. She's certainly free to be proud of what she is doing, but this is just kind of insulting.

I didn't watch his special on tv where he talked about it. BUT I did see pieces of it afterward and how he watched with his first wife. He had felt like a woman when he was married to her and I guess sometimes wore women's clothes back then. I think hearing that made me think that he is serious about it all.

Also, why does it matter if it is for the money? People do lots of things for money, if it isn't hurting you, why should it matter?

I'm not a huge fan of the Kardashians because it's just not my thing, however, I find Caitlyn to be as real as she can be in her situation. Her struggles aren't easy and she's very brave to be embracing her true self now.

I hope that she is happy with herself and finds the peace that she couldn't find as Bruce.

If it is a sham... Well then they should all be ashamed of themselves to chose that as a platform to continue their 15 minutes

This would be a great point IF Caitlyn was doing something with the money she's making on all of this, such as donating it to an LGBT group or something like that. I've not heard of that happening yet. Not only did Caitlyn make a pretty penny off the primetime special and now the cover, but the Kardashians are doing the same by focusing two of their Keeping Up With the Kardashian episodes on E! to be all about their reactions to Bruce's announcement. Thus, raking in more money.

It would have been relatively easy for Caitlyn to release a statement regarding the situation and release her own photos, doing it for herself. It still would have helped people in a similar situation to see a "celebrity" dealing with the same. But to have them all profit from it makes me roll my eyes a bit. Doesn't detract from the bravery or authenticity of the situation, though.

Because we all know that reality shows on the E! network are about helping others and not at all about exploiting yourself to make a buck. Maybe it's the people with shows on TLC that do that, but the ones on E! would never do it all for the money

I prefer not to think the worst of people. After watching the Diane Sawyer special, I truly think he is doing it for himself and to help others. I don't think he ever really fit with his fame mongering wifey.

I didn't say anything about hiding in shame.

There's a huge amount of space between hiding in shame and doing an E! reality show (which she is doing).

When one is trying to raise awareness of something, there is such a thing as bad publicity. Caitlyn already had a problem because of the Kardashians association. Now she's going down the same road.
That is bound to turn many people off, not because they are anti-transgender but because they are anti-Kardashian.

I don't have much respect for anyone who chooses to exploit their life in order to make a profit. There are ways to help others that don't involve pimping yourself out to the Entertainment network IMO.

If he's doing it for himself, why make a two hour long primetime special out of it? That makes him and Kris two peas in a pod. More concerned about the brand and publicity of the whole thing than anything else. The whole situation is an extremely private matter that greatly affects their family, no matter how greedy they all are. To let the world see it play out on reality TV isn't the greatest idea, IMO.

I see a strong resemblance to Jessica Lange anyone else ?

I can this this both ways. If Caitlyn decided she did not want to talk to the media or make a big deal about it, people would hound her because she is famous and she would get flack from the trans community for trying to hide her decision.

This is a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

Now, if she hadn't married into the Kardashians, she shouldn't be as famous. Sure, she's a Olympian, but if Lindsey Vonn came out as a trans man, would there be a 2 hour special on E! about it? No. Why? Because Lindsey Vonn's family aren't reality tv stars.
