Cable modem for internet

I did a search of these boards and have found that I need to get a cable modem at check-in with a $125 deposit.

Is this something I could bring from home or do I need to get it from FW?

You will probably need the one from the park. It all comes in a case with everything needed. The $125.00 is refunded upon departure. You will need a cable modem to go from the outside pole to your camper hookup. Very easy to do. Just make sure you get a preferred site that has cable or you won't be able to have it. We have done it every time we camped. They are also on a first come first served basis. I belive only one time thay didn't have one at checkin but we were able to get one the next day.

No this not a per day charge. The price is included with the site. The $125.00 is refunded upon check out for all the items in the case they give you.

Oh -- I didn't know there wasn't a per day charge. Every time we've stayed at an on-site hotel we had to pay $9.95 for 24 hrs. It got quite pricey

There IS a $9.95 charge per 24-hour period. Our experience with it was not good, and we eventually learned that they were having problems from their end. We were able to use it about a total of 15 minutes over the course of three days, only getting connected twice for a few minutes each time. Unfortunately we were charged for three days of service!

Hopefully they have worked the bugs out of this.

We have had internet access everytime we have been at the campgrounds and NEVER have had any problem with not working and we have NEVER been charged the $9.95 that people are talking about. Has been atleast 5 times.
Maybe we are just lucky!!!

The last time we went we used a wireless satalite card to go online. But we got this from hubby's work for free ( jic, hubby needed to log into work)... It was great, I got to surf the web on the entire ride from MA to Florida! I told hubby we need to get it again the next time we go!

there is no extra charge. I called last week sometime, I can't remember the name of the lady who answered the phone, she said there is a $125 deposit, you use the modem for the length of your stay, there is no daily charge, you get your money back when you check out and turn your modem in. I got the number from Jeff Spencer's web page, it's at the bottom of the FAQ section. She stopped in the middle of talking to me to check 'somewhere' (computer, maybe?) that the info she was giving me was correct, then came back and said yes, $125 and no extra charge. Maybe those that were charged in the past were part of an intro program or something? I guess we can wait until Iradi8 comes back and lets us know

We we not on someone else's wireless access. The box from Disney when connected to a computer takes you directly to their website as the default page. I believe that the chage is built in to the cost of a PREFERRED site that has cable included, as opposed to a full hookup. We have never been charged and I know we never will be. Last 2 trips were Oct 05 and April 06.

We had a preferred site June 06 and at checkin was told we could have internet for an extra $9.95. We did'nt get it as I thought that was a little expensive. What are people paying for the site? We have a preferred this dec. I will check it out then, our preferred site is $53.00 including tax as we reserved during value season.

For my trip last week, I was able to hook up to the new Cingular 3G network, sitting in my tent in the 2000 loop. I was amazed at the speed, faster than my DSL at home.

The term "card" and the fact that the poster got the "card" from thier employer indicates that they are talking about a cellular/3G typoe access PCMCIA card.

True satellite internet deals with an entire installed system (your sat dish won't work) that costs several thousand dollars and figure around $99 a month to use.
