I am looking for the best deal on t.v. We have Directv right now and are looking for a better deal. I called Directv today and asked for a better deal, and they basically said they couldn't do anything about it. So, we are ready to look around. If you have Dish Network or cable are you happy with it? What range of prices are offered?

your answer is going to depend on the channels you want to have.

For us, DirecTv is $3 more expensive then the same package with AT&T U-Verse.

Cable doesn't even offer all the same channels (our cable doesn't carry the big 10 network and a couple of others. I actually ditched my cable and moved back to direct due to not carrying the Big10 channel).

Dish Network would cost me more for the same channels.

I've had all three, and currently have AT&T U-Verse. I am very happy with all of the channels, and ecstatic with cable because the other two would not work every time we had a storm. I don't have to worry about losing the TV channels with cable. We have a package with Internet, Phone and Cable with 300 channels for around $120 per month.

I'm very happy with Dish Network and keep refusing other offers. Part of the reason is that we've had so much trouble with various cable companies and everything has gone smoothly since we've had Dish. I don't want to tempt fate!

Comcast is the devil's work, I am convinced. If it would be Comcast, run fast and far away.

I'm trying to figure out the same thing right now. I did cancel our Direct TV this week and thery called me back the next day offering good deals to get us to stay. (but I actually cancelled, didn't just say I was going to) We're moving next week and I may have the option of what to pick - dish or cable - I need to talk to the landlord to see what is set up there now. I'd like to learn more about the Uverse thing, but I think it has to do with the computer and we are computer illiterate!! :rotfl:

We have gotten rid of everything, I was tired of paying for cable and nothing being on when I was home, Directv is expensive. We only have 1 option for cable anyway and they stink.

We might get Dish network, but I am not ready to do that now. I can't decide to do it because we don't have the option to get our locals and I watch them quite a bit.

We don't have AT&T U-verse available in our area.

We are currently using the convertor box, have a blu-ray player, and can stream movies from Netflix.

anything but cable....direct tv, dish, Att uverse, Fios....any of them are better than cable.

Actually, the same can be said for many of the nation's other cable companies -- whatever you're experiencing with Comcast, most likely some of the others are having similar difficulties with their "incumbents", too.

Back to OP: If AT&T U-verse is available in your area, I would suggest giving it a look.

I did a little research on these. I found a lot of negative reviews for ATT Uverse so I'm a little leary of it. Direct TV and Dish Network seemed comparable. Direct TV's Choice package and Dish Networks' 200 channel package have almost all of the same channels. Direct TV was $30 for 12 months then up to $59 after that (I know you can get something like $2 off if you have AT&T as well) and Dish was $38 for 12 months then $53 after that.

I am goign to look into cable, but since we have Comcast down here I'm worried because I've heard bad things about them, too! This should be way easier!!

I haven't switched to Direct or Dish yet but any thing has to be better then Comcast.

really, you DONT want to go with Comcast.

If you have a AAA membership, you can save $10 a month for the 1st two years with Direct. If you are going with HD, there are 30 or so new HD channels coming int he next month or so.

You can also get $100 back if you use Direct's refer a friend. If you know somebody that has Directtv, just ask them and they can get you the refer a friend info. Or, if you dont know someone, you can just PM me!! :)

I have cable through Brighthouse networks, it includes unlimited nationwide phone & broadband internet connection through RoadRunner. Very happy with the tv channels we get & the other services. Our bill is about $120. a month...our Verizon bill for phone only was costing more than that..just our experiences :)

Well, I am very happy with Comcast. We have had very few issues that last few years. All issues that we have had have been quickly resolved. They have a fantastic On-Demand section. I like it MUCH MUCH better than DirecTV.

This must be a post from an employee or something! HAHAH :rotfl:

You are the lucky one. I've been lied to by Comcast, had appts missed, been on hold for the longest times imaginable, gotten the run-around for every complain, had bills that were incorrect, rates that jumped .. heck, even once they sent out a mailer for a promo for Cinemax/HBO. When you called the number listed on the mailer it was a porno hotline. When I called them to inform them I got a blunt, "Yeah, we know. Somebody screwed up. Anything else you want to tell us?"

If you have DirecTv and your contract time is up, tell them you are leaving. I am embarrassed to say how much this company has given us to remain customers.

Well I am not an employee *yet*. I had more issues with Cablevision than with Comcast. Sadly my phone number is one off from Cablevisions and I get angry calls daily. I honestly have not had any major issues with Comcast other than the rates increasing but that happens with all cable companies. We had to call customer service for an issue today and were not on hold long at all. Maybe it just depends on where you are located.

I had DirecTV for two years. The dish is still on my roof along with about 10 others that are not in use from the building. They never take their equipment back. My co-worker was going to get fined by the fire inspector because of where DirecTV placed his dish and they would not do anything about it.

No cable or satellite provider is perfect. They all have their good and bad points.

(My company may possibly be taken over by Comcast, but my opinion was the same before this announcement. I actually forgot about this when I posted originally. I remembered later).

OMG! YES! I truly hate Comcast. They are ridiculously expensive. (I pay $5 more a month on DirecTV for the "platinum" package than I paid for basic cable with HBO. (we're talking like 500 more channels) Also, Comcast went out every time we had a thunderstorm. Direct has only gone out once, and that was during a snowstorm when the dish was packed with blowing snow, the final blow was when the comcast service man came to my door, and yelled at me and became very menacing to me when I didn't answer the door quick enough (I work nights and often sleep during the day) at this point I was pretty disgusted with comcast and told him so and told him that attitudes like his are the reason I was getting a dish....and he shut off my cable and left!

We have Direct TV and the ONLY reason we want to switch to Comcast or Fios is because we cant watch the Phillies!!!:sad: I have every game that is on 17 on the calendar so we can watch otherwise we listen to the radio (this west coast stand is killing us...in more ways than one :sad2:). We would never consider giving up Direct TV if they had the Comcast SportsNet.
