I had heard many places that staying at FW Cabins was cheaper than doing a hotel on property. I love camping but coming from so far away makes it impossible to bring all of our stuff so a cabin seems like a great idea. I went to check tonight and prices range from $300-$400 a night!
Is this common?!

Yep, whoever told you that was not very knowledgeable. Except, they may have been comparing to deluxes :confused3

I've never seen cabins less than the cheaper resorts although sometimes there are discounts and even FD that may make them better than a few of the moderates but rare.

Now you can save some dough staying in cabin if you utilize it to cook your own meals though.

The cabins are rated as a Moderate Resort option and but are more expensive than other Moderates on property.

However, price alone is not the only comparable point - that's a bit of an "apples vs. oranges" comparison".

The cabins have room for six people where most Mods are limited to four (there is a limited five option).
You can drive up and park at your cabin front door.
They have a good bit of space and as a parent, the ability to shut the bedroom door on the kids at night and have me and DW time is priceless.

As Michael said, you can cook/eat some meals at your cabin which saves money that normally would be spent on QS or TS food. Some people object to this point saying, "why should I cook? I'm on vacation". But a bowl of cereal or some burgers cooked on the grill is better at your cabin. People (for example those using MDE) use grocery delivery services to have their shopping list delivered and in their cabin fridge before they arrive.

Finally, the cabins and more specifically the Fort can be enjoyed as a resort unto itself. If you're a theme park warrior type who only uses your room/resort to sleep in, the magic of the cabins and the Fort will be lost on you. Those kind of people would be better off booking two Value rooms.

So no, seashell724, they don't fit everybody, but they fit a lot of folks.

Bama Ed, Everything you just stated is why my wife and I got a cabin for our first visit to WDW with our family. We plan on pre-making/freezing our meals for the crock pot. and setting it after lunch/nap and coming back to a warm meal for dinner and then back to MK. Also shutting the kids in their own bedroom will be nice after a long day at the parks.

Flea,

That's a good idea. Although not at the Fort, we've also used an electrical timer like this: https://www.1000bulbs.com/product/8...BaseShopping&gclid=CLHckpaB3cwCFUQjgQod8AkGSw

so that we throw something together in the crock pot when we go out the door in the morning but we don't have to come back to turn it on. Just set it to come on and use the couple hours you need and it will be hot when you get back for supper.

Bama Ed

PS - I think this is the type of timer people use on outdoor Christmas lights.

ANNNNNNNND ORDERED. :thanks:

Or get a crock-pot with a timer.

Either way... good ideas. Just watch that you are mindful of the "Watt" rating of your timer versus your crockpot. Don't want to come back to a meal on fire. :)

A bit :offtopic: but I have never had an issue leaving our Crock pot on in the morning on low and coming back 8 or 10 hours later to enjoy our meal. Even more so if it was FROZEN when started. I know some "Crock" meals have instructions for 6 hours (or worse yet, 2 hours on high then go for 5 hours on low), but if it's a concern, I'd just add a little extra liquid.

Anyway ONtopic.gif , back to the cabin.... Like has been said, if you consider ALL that is offered with the cabin and how you would use it, it could make the price much more reasonable. :flower:

1) True.
2) There are too many benefits to Cabins and The Fort, so they are priced higher than normal Moderates.

Right now, cabins are comparable to moderate resorts. The week of July 4, a cabin is only $234 a night, but Caribbean Beach is $239

The only thing that makes the cabin not a Deluxe is the lack of washer/dryer. If you have 6 people, the only options on site are the family suites at the values and the junior suites at Coronado Springs. The price has gone up however, I compared prices for our current trip and the cabin was only $50 less per night than a 1 BR at OKW. Throw in the golf cart and the price is the same.

Used to get a cabin for around $189 a night. Those were the days ...
