Just a quick question - how close is it possible for a cabin and a pet campsite to be? We are hoping to camp with our 2 labradors and my MIL/SIL/nieces and nephews will be staying in a cabin!

TIA!!

As far as I know, the pet camping loops are really far from all the cabins. The cabins are in the 2100-2800 loops and the pet friendly camping loops are much farther away.

Here is the info I found on All-Ears:

Does FW allow pets?

Yes. In fact, Fort Wilderness is the only pet friendly resort on Disney World property. Request a pet site when making reservations. Pets are allowed in Premium, Preferred and Full Hook-Up campsites in loops 1600 through 1900, 300, 700 and 800, but must be kept in those areas. Depending on the season and demand, Fort Wilderness might also temporarily designate certain loops as pet loops. There is an additional charge of $5 per day.

Fort Wilderness also has the fenced-in, leash free Waggin' Trails Dog Park: 'Where dogs on vacation can "Lose the Leash"'! The park is located next to the playground at loop 300, but all the pet loops have access to it by way of the designated paths. Currently, Disney doesn't have these on their maps, but they will hopefuly include them soon. All the paths are marked with signs, so you can easily find your way to Waggin' Trails. Leashed dogs are also allowed on the golf carts now, making the park even more accessible. It is open from dawn to dusk, and has several watering stations where the bowls are self filling. (Note: if they haven't been used, the water in them gets very warm, so you will want to get it to fill again with cool water.) There's also a picnic table where you can relax while your dog plays. Dogs must be accompanied by guests age 12 and over at the park; no unaccompanied dogs, puppies under 4 months, or dogs in heat are allowed. Use of the dog park is limited to FW guests staying in one of the designated pet loops. (See the photo section for a sign with all the Waggin' Trails Dog Park rules.)

Owners are expected to clean up after their pets in all areas. There is a receptacle to deposit pet waste, as well as collection bags with which to pick up the waste, located at each of the entrance/exit of the pet loops. Collection bags are also located between sites #1632 and #1634 beside the path to the comfort station, at the entrance to the pet walk in loop 300, and in the dog walk area next to the kennel.

I think that the loops closer to the cabins are for Rv's and such like that and not tents. I hope that helps. If all else fails you could call Disney and ask them. They might be able to tell you more.

You'll be on the yellow side and they'll be on the purple side. If they're at the top of the road closer to the 2000 loop, you might not be that far away. But if either one of you have a golf cart, it won't be that bad. Just remember the pets have to stay within designated areas.

You may have your dogs with you at all times as long as you have a hard sided camp set up... if you have only a tent, they will not be allowed in the tent without you there. And you'll have to place them in the kennels at the front.

Now the luck of the draw would be if you got the 300 loop and they got one of the cabins in the 100 loop.
I'd call the fort up to 1 week prior to your check in and ask them to make a note on the two reservations that you'd like to be close as possible. Then check in together and see what can be done.

You'll still be a little ways away, but you don't have to be at opposite ends.

Nichole&Becker,

Glad to see your comment on keeping pets inside their loop. When we were there around Christmas, there were MANY people walking pets along the main drags, WELL outside any loop. I thought I had remembered that rule, but like others, it doesn't seem to be enforced. Although i'm not sure how owners are supposed to get pets to the fenced enclosure near the 300 loop. :confused3

The way that I have heard to get the dogs to this area and the walking trails that are designated for pets is to either drive them there in a golf cart as that is now allowed, or to walk them on the main roads and not venture into other loops.

Now I have not actually been to the Fort yet, so this is mostly speculation and what I have read online. I do hope I won't get too much trouble at the Fort since I will be traveling with my service dog. He is a very big, brown dog. I will likely have him vested at all times as to not confuse other guests as to why he is wandering around with me in other loops when we plan to go on walks around the Fort each day.

N&B, Highly unlikely, but security MAY check with you if they see you in non-pet areas. But from what I've seen lately, they put pets everywhere anyway.

Enjoy your stay and I hope it's not too hot for you or your animal. :flower3:

Since the dog park opened, you can walk your dogs along the main roads in order to get them to/from the dog park, and you can also have them leashed on a golf cart for the same purpose. There are some signs that have been put up showing walking paths to get there from the other side of the campground, but in true Disney contradictory fashion, they haven't taken the "no pets beyond this point" signs down from both ends of the main drags, and there is still some paperwork out there that says "no dogs on golf carts". But to cut Disney some slack, the dog park has only been open for 2 years. :rotfl:

I would think you're only really likely to get flack from CMs if you have your pets in the pool/Meadows or Settlement area, where they very definitely are NOT allowed. Ditto if you bring them into the cabin loops or other camping loops that aren't designated as pet loops (likely that other guests will complain to management).

Unfortunately the cabins and pet loops aren't close as PPs have noted, and unfortunately you can't request the 2 cabins on the 100 loop, as they're generally reserved for VIPs and you just have to luck out to get them.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I guess having the in-laws a bit far away might be ok :thumbsup2

We weren't even considering camping - but my older dog made us feel HORRIBLE a few weekends ago when we left them at the dog sitters. I know he was well taken care of there - but he just didn't want to stay! So now we are selling a car, and hoping to pick up a nice used trailer. What we do for these dogs.......:lovestruc

Oh you are SO right! I tell people all the time that our dogs have a camp in ME and a TT and we just make the payments. :lmao:

And of course they FORCE us to go to WDW on vacation every year. :rotfl2:

You have very lucky dogs! :flower3:

We were just at the Fort in December and took our dog everywhere as long as he was leashed and on the golf cart.

There are 2 cabins on the 100 loop but I don't know if they are rentable or what.

Unfortunately you can't request those. They're generally reserved for "VIPs" and you just have to luck out and get them by chance.
