Has anyone rented one of these lately? I called for information. I was told only a party of 6 could rent, but I have read that you can add extra people for $25 each? Is this true? CM didn't seem to know about this.
Also, we have a party of 11. Could we rent a cabana and a beach umbrella/table? Would those be in the same area or are they in different places in the park? CM didn't seem to know this either.
No way we can pay for two cabanas they are so expensive! Yikes!:scared1:

no, the cabanas and umbrellas are generally not in the same area.

IMO, I dont think the water park cabanas are worth it esp if you need 2 of them. We've done them at other theme parks and are huge fans, but5 for the $$ and what you are getting, we decided to pass ad rent the umbrella instead.

The 'Cabanas' at the water parks are not really 'cabanas' at all, they are small decks with umbrellas. No real privacy (which is why we love them at Sesame place, b/c you can change out of your wet clothes there), and some are not covered at all.

I recommend the umbrellas as a good alternative. Much cheaper, and still the bonus of not having to 'find' a spot. The ones we got at BB was in it's own area with a nice sand/beach area, a huge tree for shade and the kids could play—it was fenced in. I wasn't heavily booked in mid-august so it was like we had the area to ourselves anyway.

Thanks for replying.
I'm a little confused though. We are planning on Typhoon Lagoon because my grandson is really into animals and wants to do the snorkelling. The pictures I've seen online show the cabanas as wooden structures with the chairs, etc. under them. It sounds like you're saying the cabanas are just larger umbrellas on a deck. Was that at Blizzard Beach? Maybe they are different at Typhoon Lagoon?

We rented a cabana at TL last August. It was situated overlooking the wave pool on the side nearest the shark reef. Personally, we loved it! It isn't enclosed, but the whole area is roped off with access restricted to cabana renters. Concierge service included food service, towels, refillable mugs, private locker. I don't know about adding people - there were only 4 of us, but we truly enjoyed it. Here are a couple of pictures:

From what I remember seeing - it looked like some were on elevated decks and some were just in the sand depending on the area.

I have wanted to rent one of these for awhile but DW is too cheap :rolleyes2

We usually arrive to TL early and stake out a nice little area in a quiet corner of the park. We place our towels and go back and forth between our chairs and all of the great attractions there.

I think every trip we have come back to our chairs after grabbing lunch and find them surrounded by a huge group of South American guests giving us evil eyes as we return to our chairs.

The first time this happened there was a large woman in a very small swim suit sitting on DW's chair. When DW said "Excuse me" the woman got up and glared at her. Needless to say DW was not impressed at all that her towel was now soaking wet from someone else sitting on it :rotfl:

To me the cabanas look great if you are willing and able to pay for them :)

Revdon, thanks so much for the reply and pictures. Yes, those look like what I thought!
The reason I'm really interested is that I have a very bad back so don't do any of the rides, except the lazy river or standing at the very edge of the wave pool. I'm also a very fair skinned Irish redhead who is allergic to sunscreen! Florida sun is NOT my friend :rotfl2: So in the past (haven't been to a water park in years, when these cabanas didn't cost extra) I have spent much of the day reading a book in the shade while the rest of the family is running around. I'm having a hard time spending the money for one cabana, but two? No way! And if they aren't actual wooden structures, just large umbrellas, not interested either.
I would probably cough up the money for one cabana and one umbrella/table if I could get them near each other. This is a once in a lifetime trip so it would be worth that to guarantee a relaxing day.:beach:

Navy Dad Thanks for your input. I hope you can convince your DW to rent one next time. :)

I just rented a reserved space for our trip in May. I think it cost approx. $50.

RevDon64: We had the same cabana last spring! It was awesome!

We always do cabanas. We have gramma, and one blonde nephew who likes to read and doesn't love the sun for long periods of time. (Truthfully, we are all pretty pale, so the shade is welcome for everyone.)

We prefer TL, so we've done cabanas there the most. At TL, they are sand bottomed. They are located in two separate areas: the photo above is in an area overlooking the wave pool, towards the right as you are facing the wave pool. In this area, there are indeed umbrella/lounge chair rentals nearby. (We had this set up on either side of us.)

The other area at TL is on the other side of the park, near the main QS restaurant, the kiddie area, etc. It's fine…but felt a little far off for us. (My nephews are 12 and 14, so the kiddie area is not of much interest.) Also sand bottomed. There is also an area adjacent with umbrellas/chairs that are also private/rentable.

At BB, the cabanas are literally on decks overlooking the lazy river. Different feel, and really no place to pull your chair into the sun if you want (TL gives you that ability.)

Your mileage will vary, but for us, the steep price is totally worth it. And although there are umbrellas near the cabanas at TL anyway, not sure if they'll guarantee you'll all be next to one another.

Have fun!!!

Are umbrellas/shady areas only available for rent? Otherwise the lounge chairs are out in the open sun? I definitely want the shade so will rent the space if necessary.

Thanks. :beach:

No. There are free chairs around the park in the shade, at least at TL there were. But, they go pretty quickly in the morning and the shade moves as the day goes along.

We enjoyed it. In fact, we've pretty much vowed that we will never do an outdoor water park again without renting one of these. The privacy and convenience make it worth the price for us.

For the most part, the umbrella rentals are in a totally separate area, away from the cabanas. We rented umbrellas at both BB & TL last summer. The exception to this is at TL, where there is one cabana at the far end of the lounger rental area (you can see it in the last picture I am posting below). Not sure if you can request a specific cabana and lounger when you book? But it might be worth calling to ask.

These photos will give you an idea of what the umbrella/lounger rental areas look like.

Blizzard Beach:

Typhoon Lagoon:

We arrived early at both parks, and each time requested a lounger that would get shade for as much of the day as possible. The CM's were great at honoring our requests.

We rented an umbrella in August 2013 and our umbrella was with the cabanas. The cabanas were around the outside of the area and the umbrellas were in the middle of all the cabanas. This was not in the area by the shark reef, but over on the other side of the park.

Us too. We just booked one again for our June trip.

Gina: I may be wrong, but aren't there more cabanas off to the right of that TL photo? I recall being in a cabana there that was off to the side of that sandy area. There were a row of them to the right of this area. The whole area (the cabanas and this sandy area with the lounger/umbrellas) was behind a rope. And I know for sure on the other side of the wave pool at TL there were reserved umbrellas/loungers next to the cabanas, also behind a rope. We were sharing sand with those folks in front of our cabana. This was last May…maybe it's changed?

Hmmmmm....you might be right! That searing heat of August could have made my memory as frizzy as my hair.

Thanks for the correction :thumbsup2 .

Thanks everyone for all the information! I think I'm going to reserve a cabana and an umbrella for our party of 11, and request that they be in the same area and hope for the best.:) We'll try to get to Typhoon Lagoon early, so maybe we'll have a better chance??? I hope!:goodvibes

O.k we are a party of 9... So we just rent a cabana and pay $75 for our 3 additional people?
