Hi,

We are going to see Harry Potter World during our trip to Disney and I thought I would just grab a cab from Pop Century to Universal. Question is, how difficult is it to get a cab back from Universal?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

You might want to look into Mears shuttle. It will probably be a lot cheaper than a cab. You can call and schedule a pick up at the Pop and a return from Universal.

If you haven't bought your Universal tickets yet, DU has a deal that includes tickets and transportation from the Disney resorts to Universal. Check it out here. :thumbsup2

Thanks. I did, but it was actually more expensive. I believe Mears is $19 per head x 4 plus tip that's close to $90. A cab is about $30 each way.

Thanks. I looked at that, but we are only going to see Harry Potter World and then going back for a nap and then off to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween, so the pricing didn't add up for us for this offer.

Mears will pick you up at the resort and is $19 per person round trip. Call the night before, they will give you their pick up times and be in the front of your resort. To get back, you call from the park 1-2 hours before you want to leave. Again, they give you pick up times and you go down to the bus area. Depends on how many people are going over to US/IOA. Usually a shuttle going over and coach bus returning. You may have to make stops heading over at other resorts.

I'm not sure where you're staying, but plan on a cab being more like $40 to $50 each way, plus tip.

Yikes! I read $30 somewhere on this board. That certainly changes the equation. I'll investigate a little more.

I've done this cab ride multiple times, and $30 is pretty normal from the Downtown Disney area, but Pop Century is further away and the normal route takes you through the high traffic section of Buena Vista in front of Downtown Disney.

Taxifarefinder says $40 with tip from Pop Century to Universal Studios, which feels a bit high, but it might be right.

I'd still take the cab instead of Mears with 4 people. Even if the cab is $50 each way it's so much more convenient that it's worth the extra $10.

I agree. I think $40 may be on the high side as well, but we'll see. I think I'll stick with the cab. Much more convenient than Mears for the ride back.

I think I'd plan on at least $50 each way for a cab. We took one once from MK to Marriott's Grand Vista, which is closer to Sea World (DH had dropped me and the kids that morning and had the car) and it was over $50.

I'd consider renting a car for a day maybe - unless you just want the convenience of a cab. Plus, depending on the time of year it may not save enough to be worth the hassle.

You can rent one at the car care center (never done that) or Alamo/National at the Dolphin (done that several times, super quick and easy).
