The Running Thread - 2026

My year has been focused on training for the marathon and and I didn’t do many races and didn’t get pics. But here’s me on a long run!

ATTQOTD: here's me rounding the final turn of my first-ever marathon, as part of Dopey. The Half the day before went terribly, and I thought there was no way I'd ever be able to finish the full, but then the first 15 or so miles went super well, the next few were kind of crap, but then I caught up with @Herding_Cats and @The Expert and they pulled my brain out of its funk (and pulled me along physically for a couple minutes ) and then we picked up @nancipants at The Boardwalk and we all finished together(ish)

Great photo. Lots of joy there. You'd never know that you were finishing 48.6 miles, and you look like you are flyin'.

I did not do an organized race today, but I did take advantage of the sunshine and warm(er) temps to get in what was supposed to be an easy run. Buuuuut, all was feeling good and it wound up being 4 miles at a fairly-fast-for-me 10:41 pace.
I'll do better with a slower 3 mile run on Sunday.

I'm really good at faking it for a camera or a crowd. If there would just be spectators along the whole course, I probably would've been fine the whole time

Can confirm, any time there was a "power up" sign or a clump of folks cheering, she'd turn on those jets!

I was also thinking there was a kid along the finish straightaway that had a mario mushroom/star power-up that she tapped and took off near the end!

I have never had a run photo I liked. I only did one race year that did race photos and definitely not something I would want to share. Maybe this will be part of my 2026 running goals. Accomplish a good race photo. Haha. Maybe it’s because I look like “a runner”. Hoping my costumes for SS look good for a photo.

Looking forward to a full year of running/training this year. And love this thread for tips, advice and inspiration.

Confirmation that Valentines virtual is gone, replaced by a Halloween virtual. As a result of this, would lean towards thinking W&D isn't villains/Halloween themed?

Backing W&D further and further into peak Gulf hurricane season is certainly a choice. We got really lucky last year, but I don’t expect that to hold.

I don’t like a lot of my race pictures. When I try and smile at the cameras, it ends up looking like a grimace. I have tried to learn to not smile so big, but that doesn’t always happen.
And then there are the times I eat the HS chocolate and turn the corner and there is a camera…

For Christmas I had the flu. While the worse of it is behind me I still have a cough that refuses to go away and the fatigue that just recently went away. I have run once since then and it went well enough beside the constant coughing after the run. Between that and the warmer temps for marathon weekend, how much of a adjustment should I make to my time goal for the marathon? I was aiming for a 8 min pace... Now I am thinking 8:15-8:20 pace...

The warmer temperatures will have more of an impact than your extended taper. I'd back off 10-15 seconds per mile and see how you feel after halfway. If you feel good, you can always pick it up.
