C25K! Anyone else in?

Hope everyone is doing well!

Finished W6D2. Those two 10 minute intervals killed me for some reason today. It was probably the hardest run I've ever done. I'm not sure what to do about it. I guess I'll just see how my 25 minute run goes.

rgrutland - I do my 5 minute warmup and then do the intervals. Such as my 25 minute run next time. I'll warm up 5 minutes, run 25 minutes, cool down for 5 minutes. So I'll end up at 35 minutes when I'm done. :goodvibes

Congratulations on signing up for and commiting to 2 large runs!! I will LOVE to hear how your 10k goes in March. I am thinking the same thing - starting with a 5k, then a 10k, and then the 1/2!
I think the theming & medals from the Princess 1/2 are so cute which is the main reason why I want to run it, but I also think the weather should be good for you. I might have to bite the bullet and do that one instead of the one in January. Just have to make sure I can swing it with my work schedule.

I was curious to ask you how you like the Nike + system. I was looking at it last night on Amazon. Can you program it so it beeps or alerts you of when you need to change your interval? Or do you primarily use it to see how you are pacing, distances, etc? Do you know how it's different than a Garmin? Right now I am training on a TM so I don't need to technology yet, but I will soon and it would be nice to not have to watch the clock to then adjust the speed...

Well, the 10K will be my first race - EVER - so I am a little nervous about it, but excited as well. I hope to be able to run about half of it. By the time it rolls around I should be nearing the end of the C25K so I'm hoping I'll be ready to run that much. We'll see!!!

I LOVE the Nike+ system. I use it with the C25K Podcasts by Robert Ullrey (a free download!) and his voice comes on when it is time to run/walk/etc. I have never tried the Garmin, so I have no idea about the differences between the two. I don't have Nike+ shoes, though, so I have a little pouch I put the sensor in and attach to my shoelaces. The only thing is if that pouch is not securely in place (laces come untied, etc) the readings won't be totally accurate. I would think the Garmin might be more accurate in that respect. I know that you can program the Nike+ system to an extent, but I've never really played around with it much since I've been using the podcasts. I've also looked into getting a Garmin watch, but it probably won't be for a while.

Holy cow W4D1 is TOUGH!!!!! I added about 5 mins to my cool down, because I had walked to the park, and it is alllll uphill! I did a 1/2 mile in the first 5 minute run... Didn't realize I was going that fast. I probably only did 1/4 mile the last 5 minute run. Did NOT give up, but I sooooooooooo wanted to! Keep me up, b/c I am now feeling that I will NEVER get any farther than this!!!

Good job! Don't give up! The first day of Week 4 was terrible for me, but the last 2 were not that bad. I added an extra day to make sure I had it before moving on to Week 5 this week. You'll make it! Just take your time. That's the main thing. Keep an even pace, but make sure it's a pace you are comfortable with.

I did the ESPN 5K on Saturday and I had a GREAT time!

I did it without my iPod, and I did the whole thing by feel. When I felt strong, I ran-when I got tired I stopped and walked.

I finished feeling really strong-ran the last section and crossed the finish line smiling. I got a high five from Mickey!!!!:cool1:

Congratulations on the race!! That sounds so cool to get a high-five from Mickey!! :yay::yay: And that you did it without an ipod is impressive, I tend to get in such a rythmn with the ipod that it's hard to imagine running without it! But I guess there is so much going on and like you said you focused on how you felt!! Woo Hoo!!:banana:

:yay: Congratulations! That is awesome!

I jumped in this morning and started c25k, right at the beginning, w1d1. At this point, I'm just thrilled I finished that! I've never been athletic in my life, I actually failed gym in 4th grade :lmao: I'm looking forward to getting back out there on Wednesday and see how it goes.

Great job everyone! Ready for a book???

So after that grueling W4D1 on Saturday, we hopped in the car for a 5 hr dr. to my daughter's gymnastics meet on the other side of the state. When I got out, I could barely walk. Seriously! My muscles were soooo tight. Sunday morning, I got up, walked a few laps around the hotel just to get loose. Then I did some yoga poses, crunches and push ups. Still tight legs. Finally walked a mile on the treadmill just to be able to move. I really missed my tennis shoes, walking in Uggs on a treadmill wasn't fun.

Left the hotel, went to the meet, and SAT for about 6 hrs. DD was the all around champ in her level/age, vault champ, and 2nd on beam! Got back in the car at 7 for the 5 hr. ride home again, got in a little before 1. Up at 5, got ready, went to work. Still felt stiff all day.

Did my w4d2 today, and breathing wise, not a problem. My legs felt like concrete blocks, it was soooo hard just to lift them.... I am attributing it to a lack of sleep and lots of cramped riding time, and just pray I get loose before Wed. I may end up doing day 3 again Friday, just to work on it a bit more..

That is so cool. Way to go!!! Iam jealous.

W7D3 in the books!! Moving on to week 8. I must say today is the first time I ran at night because I started my new job today. It was the most amazing run I have ever had. Perfect weather 62 crisp clear with a huge full moon on the horizon. I was in total zen mode and didnt even look at the time until I was 24min into my run. I wish they all were like that. :rotfl: Have a great evening everyone!

WONDERFUL!!!!!!!! I hope I can say that at some point in my running career! I am just hoping my legs don't feel like they weigh 200 pounds each Wednesday!

I did W4D1 today, and I was so nervous that I wouldn't be able to do it. The first time the 5 minute run came, I spent the first few minutes getting out of breath and puffing, but then everything seemed to calm down and it seemed much easier. I was actually enjoying the running rather than pushing through the pain. It felt great, and at the end of the session I was exhausted but I couldn't wipe the smile from my face! :goodvibes I was just so proud of myself for doing it. And now I don't need to worry before D2 and D3 because I know I've already done it once.

So glad it was easier than you thought! Something about that mental leap is exhillarating!

Sounds like everyone is doing well! :thumbsup2

Sorry I haven't been around for a few days. I've just been feeling a bit discouraged. But, today I just attempted W5D3 and I'm proud to say I was able to complete the 20 minute run. I shocked myself. :rotfl:

It definitely wasn't easy and I'm glad it's over with. I think it'll give me a confidence boost.

I've also lost a couple more pounds and am now down 10 pounds since I started the program. :cool1:

Yesterday I started week 8. Who would've thought that an overweight girl who could barely run 2 minutes 8 weeks ago could run for 28 minutes straight? Well- I DID IT!!! It was not easy and I wish I could find my zen while running, and maybe I will some day. I leave for WDW next week and I look forward to running around the POLY. If you see me there give me wave:cool1:

Good to have you back. Just finished W6D1 and it was fairly easy. I think and hope that after doing the 20, we may be over the hump! I'm actually starting to feel like a runner instead of someone who chose suicide by treadmill:lmao:

Keep up the good work everyone.
