Bypassing resort check-ins

my .02 -
I figure that bypassing the checkin desk will just become another option for people to take advantage of. I doubt it will be the first or only option offered.

From a customer standpoint, let's say some of the guests like it, a lot. Great for them, nice option and bob's is your uncle. Everyone else can still go to the front desk and enjoy or at least experience that experience..

Disney makes a few more people happy and as a side benefit there are less people taking up time in the lobby that don't want to be there in the first place.

Anyone remember when self checkout at supermarkets became an option? There was a whole lot of "are they going to get rid of the check out people? Are they going to make me scan my own stuff?"

Now several years later, it is just another option. If I'm picking up a handful of items, Love it.

On my twice a month trip with a full cart, regular check out every time, Love it.

Really I see this like the do it yourself tills in grocery stores. You have the option of waiting in a huge line for someone to do it for you, or you can take the quick option and do it yourself. All depends on what you want I imagine that this will always be the way because some people will still want that hands on help where as there are many that don't.

From a business standpoint I think this is a bad idea. I understand fully why so many people love the idea of it. But when Disney starts striving to serve guests like my local grocery chain(okay maybe not Trader Joe's, which doesn't offer express check-out near me) it's time to sell my stock AND my DVC membership. I can get my share of limp vegetables and rotten fruit close to home!

I'd be interested to see how this works. Presumably when you get to your room the welcome packet is there waiting for you? I'd also hope they'd have more cast members in the lobby area to direct guests to their rooms or troubleshoot any queries - at one of the larger resorts I really wouldn't want to be heading off in the wrong direction!!

Put me in the camp for wanting to skip check-in. Resort map? I can get that online, even for a resort I haven't' stayed at.

If I'm using Magical Express, the last thing I want to do is to stand in another line (before I get in the line to enter the park and then the lines for the attractions). The line for ME is bad enough!

That being said, if Disney has any brains at all, bypassing check-in would be an opt-in service (I'd even pay extra for it, but don't tell Disney that), and not the default experience.

I'd say if this actually becomes a thing it will be an opt in for sure. Disney definitely understands that you need to cater towards everyone. My family only gets to go down maybe every other year at the most so we actually enjoy the whole experience of getting the run down at the front desk. It's one of those moments for me where it's like "Hey, you're here!" *queue internal high fiving*

I think having the option to bypass resort check-in and going direct to my room is great customer service. Disney is giving me the option to decide what works best for me.

I was part of the test and enjoyed not having to stop at check-in. I am a DVC member and usually stay at my home resort so I didn't need the extra paper information. Now that being said our only issue was that 2 of our 3 magic bands did not open the room. We had to go to the front desk to have corrected. However I have had issues with that before and we did do check-in at the desk.

I do online check in anyway to avoid a wait. But lately in my opinion I was waiting longer at check in desk because some visitors still had questions or requests. That is fine, but since I didn't need anything, it was great to bypass e desk.

that's awesome to hear that it is good option! This still won't be available to me as they aren't shipping internationally yet, but I'm hopeful for the future.
