We are looking at purchasing points at BCV or BWV. We are a little confused with the BWV's views. What is a standard view? Why is it so much less expensive then the rest of the resorts? :scratchin

My husband and I finally decided to by points. :cheer2: Now comes the really hard part...What resort! :teeth:

BWV standard views are along the front driveway leading up to the valet parking area. When BWV first opened, there was no view difference, all points were the same. People complained that some got great lake views while others got driveway views. Thus the standard view for less points was created.

I think the standard view is a great deal if you want to save points. The view isn't that bad and most have a view of the Illuminations fireworks. They are only 20% of the total rooms and can be difficult to get, especially after the 7 month mark.

That's interesting. I didn't think they could change the point structure once it was assigned. I know they can change the seasons (dates for high/low points) but I didn't think they could change the number of points actually needed for a room.

They can change the points - as long as the overall points for the resort stays the same. They did some date reallocation at OKW early on, and the creation of SV points at BWVs. But since they finished the first two resorts, they seem to have gotten a point system that works for them fairly well. I doubt they'd ever do another "view system" far too many issues with it for them.

Something the OP should know. SV points are really popular with owners, and its not a common occurance to find much availablity at the seven month window. If the SV point structure appeals to you, that should be a check in the "owning BWV" column. (Same with the Boardwalk View - it books fairly quickly) On the other hand, you can't pool hop to SAB, and that resort is anticipated by many to become harder and harder to book at seven months (small resort, location, SAB all make it a popular choice at the seven month window) so if you really want to stay there, that is a check for BCVs. I think it will be easier to get into BCVs on occation than book BWV on occation. We have also considered doing our Saturday night stay (we fly in on Saturday) for cash at the Y&BC - let the kids use the pool Saturday and Sunday, then move over to the BW if we need to. Haven't done it yet, as my kids are currently the "SAB=grey hair" age.

Overall points for a resort cannot change. When the number of points needed for a particular room category is raised, a corresponding decrease in points for some other room category at that resort must occur. I do not have the pre-BW view point structure, but maybe someone out there does and would be willing to post it as an example.

We were unsure which resort to buy at (BCV or BWV) but ended up at BWV. We're really glad because we appreciate having the opportunity to save points if we are having a shortage of points and stay in a standard room. This allows us to go for longer or having more points for future trips. Without having bought at BWV I really think that it would be impossible to count on getting a standard view room at the 7 month window.

ALSO, we like owning at BWV too because we are able to book the very-coveted boardwalk view rooms as well. These are very difficult to book as well and the views are great.

Our standard view room that we had was not able to see the fireworks. I wouldn't count on it for your standard view room. We overlooked the canal to MGM and TOT off to the right, a small pond right in front of us, and the parking lot off in the distance. It really wasn't bad. The parking lot is far enough away and there are trees and other landscaping that make it not so bad. We were pleasantly surprised.

Good luck with your decision!

how about both?

half your points at BWV then half at BCV - or whatever works for you.

do you have children - if you do both have things to offer to children. BCV has their great pool - SALB, but BWV has a nice pool also plus the community hall - for your kids to find something to do on those bad weather days....

I would buy both - but my main points would be at BCV - this place will be harder and harder to get.... Unless DVC does a Polyn DVC I can't see it moving down in the list ever.....

Thanks guys! :thumbsup2
I knew I could find the answers here.

We have two DD's so we decided on BCV. I know they love SAB. I've read here that the standard veiw at BWV can be hard to get even when you own there. :sad2: Based on that we're going to try to get BCV. I called the Timeshare Store and they're watching out for what we want. :smooth:

Now all that's left to do is wait and dream princess: ... and save up a whole lot of money!

Thanks again!

We seem to get pretty lucky with BW View at or under 7 months-not sure why, but we never ask for std view because for us BW View is worth the extra points-but then again I would pay more for a warm pool so what do I know.

From what I heard (I wasn't a member then), the change happened shortly after BWV opened so they were able to adjust it since all the points were not sold. The number of points for preferred view did not change, it only affected the total number of points available. BWV opened in mid 1996, it did not sellout until 2000 or 2001.
