BWV questions

I'm looking to buy into either BWV or Hilton Head at 150 pts. We will be primarily staying on Disney property in the off season & have very flexible schedules for vacation. We would really love to use most of our points to stay at BWV or OKW. Would we be doing ourselves a disservice by buying HHI? I don't think I'm the type of person who would make a reservation more than 7 months in advance.
How difficult is it to get a room in BWV in say September for a week and a half with only a couple months notice?

September is quite busy, since the crowds are smaller, and DVC point charges are quite a bit lower. Days can be gotten here and there, but if you are looking for a week, you may have a problem. BWV is about the busiest resort there is, they also get a lot of business travel, and there are fall specials going on too. I don't know how 7 months in advance would be, but you will almost certainly have trouble with only 2-3 months in advance.

OKW, which has about twice the rooms than any other resort, is the easiest of the group at WDW to get. Even there holidays, all of December, and some other off-season times are difficult to get at 7 months out -- DVC patterns are different from Disney in general; DVC is actually easier to get in summer than many other times of year. Nevertheless in September you should have a good shot at OKW and probably at BWV 7 months out (except you likely won't get lower point cost "standard view" at BWV which usually goes 11 months out). Trying for somewhere only 2 to 3 months out can be difficult anywhere but if you have significant flexibility on dates it is possible at many times.

DVC is best for those who can reserve far in advance and it is best to buy where you plan to stay most so that you have the 11 month ressie window at your preferred resort. Nevertheless, those with lots of flexibility as to when they can go can often get something with short notice.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I figured that it would be tough to get anything 3 months in advance. Will probably try for HHI for our first trip anyway.
I guess I'm just confused because I keep reading conflicting info. I think the majority of the people on the boards say that the off-peak seasons are usually more difficult to book rooms for DVC. But I was reading the FAQ for www.DVCbyresale.com & they mentioned that if you plan to vacation in the off season, your home resort doesn't matter so much. Go with the resort with the lowest maintenance fees.
Maybe I'll just have to try for OKW & kill two birds with one stone.

Very simple, do not not listen to any such hype from those trying to sell you something. It is not true that DVC is easy to get at 7 months out during all the off-seasons because DVC low point seasons are the Disney off-seasons and many members opt for those times because they have lower points. There are times during off-seasons that it is possible to get rooms 7 months or less but many times it is not -- example, members were posting on this board as early as last March (9 months out) that they could not get anything in the first two weeks in December at there home resorts which is a very popular DVC season even though it is a Disney off-season.

your home resort doesn't matter so much

The only place you don't see or hear that statement is on these boards. It does matter and you should really only buy the place you want to stay at the most. It sounds like you want WDW. Don't buy something else and be disappointed.

While your plan will likely work, it is an unnecessary risk and hassle. For your stated goal, buy OKW resale even if you have to buy a few more points that the 150 you plan. That way you can schedule at 11 mo out and then at 7 months try other resorts when you want. Second choice would be BWV due to the standard view units.
