BWV experts - quick question!

Hi all,

I e-mailed member services today and got 2 different answers to this question - does anyone know how this is really handled?

If I make a reservation 11 mos out and secure a 2BR with a BW view guaranteed, and then decide a few months later that I want to scale back to a 1 BR, couldn't I just keep the reservation as a 1BR with the guaranteed view?

One CM said said I couldn't do that because all BW 2BR's are dedicated (not lock -off). The other person said the opposite - that all 2BR's are lock-offs, so the 2nd room can be turned over and rented as a studio, but he said they would not allow me to do this - said I'd have to cancel the reservation in full and start over depending on availability. The weird thing is I think I actually did this once (changed a 2BR ressie to a 1BR ressie keeping the same reservation)

This doesn't make sense to me, why wouldn't I be able to keep the 1BR and they could just release the studio into inventory?

Guess this wasn't such a quick question after all - sorry! Appreciate any thoughts!::MickeyMo

Perhaps both CMs are correct. Physically, all of the 2 bedroom units in the enitre BWV resort are lock offs - there are no dedicated 2 bedrooms. However, MS must have some way to determine which of those units are to be rented as 2 bedroom units and which are "broken up" and rented as a 1 bedroom and a studio. It may be more complicated than we think as a 1 bedroom plus a studio is not the same point cost as a two bedroom unit. Perhaps there are some specific rules about breaking up a "computer dedicated" 2 bedroom unit that we don't know or understand (due to requirement than timeshares can't sell/rent more than they have).

Anyway, you physically could drop the studio portion and keep the 1 bedroom. However, if there are people on the waitlist for a two bedroom Boardwalk view unit, we could argue/debate about "fairness". I trust there is a policy for this situation and that the CMs apply whatever it may be equally to all. My personal opinion is that a member should only be allowed to do this if unreserved capacity exists at the time of the request - in other words, the situation is treated as though it were a cancellation and a new reservation. Others may hold a different opinion.

I think this always seems to be the tricky question. I reserved it as a 1 bedroom and studio; seperate ressie but asked for "connecting" so I could cancel part. I was told by MS to call back by 31 days and either cancel part or have them convert it in the computer to a 2 Bdrm to save the points.

Just to add extra confusion now,
Sandy

This is one of those areas where the answer in part depends on who you ask. The official interpretation seems to be that the act of changing from a 2 BR to a 1 BR will be treated as a cancellation and rebooking. That means you might lose your BW view status. This issue also applies to substituting points if you ever have the need to do so for banking or home resort reasons.

Thanks for your replies - I'm certainly not trying to be unfair - I guess renting the two rooms separately is a solution, and asking them to be connecting. I can see it's a fine line no matter how you slice it!

Unfortunately I am a big planner and have no problems making a decision 11 months ahead but most of our family and friends are less likely to commit ahead so I always find myself in this dilemma!

I believe Dean is right. You would have a new res. number and would have to cance one and book the other

I learned that the hardway. Gave up my BW View when family decided they were joing us and ended up at OKW. I was happy to have the family along but I prefer BW or BC for acceess
