BWV Construction?

I'm getting very concerned about the construction going on at BWV. We have a 2-BR BoardWalk View reserved for next month, and some reports have been making me wonder if we'll experience some problems.

First of all, the reports of the second floor of the Crest O' the Wave building, with the hallways all torn up. That makes me very curious as to why they are using these rooms when the access to them is unfinished. Also, with the DVC sales office going through conversions, how much is the view blocked (specifically, the second floor)?

When will they be finishing all of this?

I'm concerned too, we arrive next Saturday. I called last week and added "top floor" as a request (boardwalk view). They had said they were not going to rent rooms above the construction, but apparently they are. When I was there visiting 2 weeks ago, they did have boards around the old DVC models, the rooms above on the 2nd floor were all dark, but it was about 8:00pm so it's possible the occupants were not in. It concerns me because I know this is a high occupancy time, they will use every room they have. It's not supposed to be done until next summer.

Do you think it would be out of line to complain if I get one of the villas in question? I have terrible dust allergies, and I don't want to be taking medication the entire time I'm in the room (or, end up in the ER). With them running at full occupancy, I feel like its almost inevitable.

You could complain, but I bet you lose your boardwalk view to switch. That's one thing I'm nervous about.

We were just in the Crest of the Wave building in rooms 3007 and 3009. The view is not blocked at all. The view is blocked for standard view rooms off the back that used to face the red building which has been torn down. A white tent now stands in the way. If you are in that section on the third floor or lower, it would be difficult.

The higher up in the Crest of the Wave building you are, the better the view will be. Here is a view from our room:

It really is a shame that they are actually using these premium units when the construction is going on. What ever happened to them not using the second floor Crest O' the Wave units?

There was no construction on either the 3rd or 4th floors. I went up through the second floor on Sunday and all signs of construction in the hallway was gone as well. I did see the plastic before that day. Of course it may have been gone just because of the weekend and little or no work was taking place.

If you walked out on to the balcony of our unit and looked down, you could see the work in forn of the old sales offices but it was not a bother and we really never even noticed it.

Thanks for the great picture! I have dreamed of that exact view for 5 years now! The first year after I joined I did have preferred view booked at 11 months but did not get the requested BW view. Since I don't have alot of points, I booked standard view after that. Now that it's guaranteed, I couldn't resist! Called day by day in January! Can't wait!

Just in the interest of reasonable expectations, we didn't have a great fireworks view with out BW View, which was over the Screen Door -- ESPN and the Inn were in the way. I suspect the further you are from the elevators, the better the view of the fireworks gets......so you get to decide which is better (or worse) longer walk -- great fireworks view.

Could other people who have been at the Boardwalk Villas lately share there experiences. Any negative issues regarding the piping project or the conversion of the sales center as if relates to your visit?

I have friends who are staying at the BWV in June and I want them to have a wonderful stay especially since it is their honeymoon. (Both projects are scheduled for completion by summer '05.)

We were there the 3rd week of Oct and the only thing we noticed was the plastic covering they put over the carpet to protect it in the hallways. We were gone most days before they started and returned after they were done.

There was some dust, so people with dust allergies should probably make a request for a floor they are not working on, but for us it was a non-issue.

I think HouseKeeping probably had the most issues as i assume the carpet covering makes it difficult to move the housekeeping cart down the halls.

Thanks from me too . I requested to be in that section at the end of the month and I was getting a little nervous reading about the construction.

Does anyone know how long the construction at BWV will be going on for? And what will be affected? Thanks.

The piping project is throughout the resort (different sections at a time) through next July.

The renovation of the old DVC models is on the end near Jellyrolls, also until next summer. I would think the major part of the exterior work would be done long before that and they will just be working inside on the first floor.

Thanks everyone for the comments and opinions. Hopefully, the construction is over for now in the BW view sections, and they'll be able to keep all the further construction areas away from guests.
