I just saw on the website there is a problem self-parking at BWI. Has anyone returned that knows anything about this. My DH really doesn't like to pay valet. That's one of the down-sides of staying at the Dolphin. This is the first I've seen of this notice.

Which website? We are heading to BWV on Tuesday. Hadn't heard anything about this yet and I'm interested!

I just looked it up on the Disney site and see what you are talking about. That would be a real bummer. I did not plan to spend more money for parking!! I wonder if they give you any kind of discount if there's no self parking available. My DH will be pretty upset if we have to pay to park! How much is valet parking??

I just saw it this afternoon. I think everyone should get free valet if this is the case. I'm not sure how much it cost either because DH never does it. I really don't understand the part about parking for Epcot in the Epcot parking. Staying at BWI and riding the boat/walking is why we pay extra to begin with.

I looked up the valet parking. It's $20 plus tip. That adds up really fast! I agree that it should be free if there's no self-parking available, and I'll definitely go to the front desk and discuss this if it becomes an issue. I'm not going to worry about it now since I can't do anything about it until I get there, but I am glad I am now aware of it so I can be prepared. Thanks!
PS. I really don't want to do valet! We like having easy access to the car.

They mean if you are a day guest (not staying at the hotel) you should not park at the hotel then walk to Epcot, you should park at Epcot. Many day guests try to bypass the parking fee when staying off site by parking at nearby hotels and taking WDW's free transportation

We go down tomorrow so I guess we will see. That's a good bit more to pay. I'm not sure what kinda of tip is correct either.

Please post what you find. I think I'll get a notification on my phone and be able to check the Dis! We are heading to Universal tomorrow for 3 nights before heading to BWV.

Just my $0.02 worth, but if you're staying at a resort, and there's no more parking, then they should waive valet fee. Too many people trying to scam the system and saying they are going to eat at the resort, but head to the park instead.

What website did you see this on?

It's from the WDW site, on the BWI page.

Due to limited parking availability, we highly recommend that all Disney Resort hotel Guests take advantage of our complimentary transportation options. For Guests arriving in their own vehicles, please be advised that self-parking may not be available—valet parking may be the only option. For Guests traveling to Epcot, please utilize the Epcot Guest Parking Lot.

Exactly. We recommend that hotel guests use the buses. That cannot possibly mean the BWI guests arriving at BWI, because where are they going to leave their cars if they have them? They are talking about non-BWI guests.

Of course, they should have the notice on the OTHER hotel pages, not BWI's, because of just this confusion.

I haven't rented a car at BWV for awhile but it was frustrating to come back from grocery shopping on a Saturday late afternoon and find no parking spaces. I hope they do crack down on it. I talked to the Boardwalk manger one time and he said that is why members are given free valet parking. Well, no longer. He said they had to balance the needs of the Boardwalk tenants and the hotel guests. When I stayed standard view, you could see people coming out of the parking lot pushing strollers and walking up to the boardwalk early in the morning. I doubt they were all going to breakfast on the boardwalk or to the store. And then after Illuminations there would be a steady stream out of the lot. So do what they do at Downtown Disney in Anaheim - give 3 hours free, 5 hours with a validation then charge for parking. Of course, not including hotel guests.

I was inform by a BWI (not Villas) that it was due to the work being done on the villas side. So she said. I will going down in Sept & don't want to do valet parking even if is free. I have seen how the "gentleman " or the valets drive your cars. I have seen them race like it their own race cars lol.
The manager said it should be back to normal when I go. That comment wasn't on Disney website on Thursday. If they charge $20 that mean $200. Come on now they were supose to be finish the villas last year.So I was told. Not sure what to do other than try not to get upset. But I refuse valet parking unless we drive it there & it should be free in my view of things.

I don't understand how work on the villas would affect parking. Unless they are using the parking lot to store materials. Doesn't make sense.

It didn't sense to me either. I think Disney doesn't know what the left foot is doing nor does the right lol.

it sounds like too many people parking there to go to parks....kind of like the issues the Contemp. has....

Curious to find out what ends up happening when above guests check in. I simply do not believe Disney will remove all self parking and force BWI Resort guests to pay to park.

Well, if you are talking about someone on the phone when you call the Resort phone number they are not even at the Resort, or Orlando for that matter. They don't have a clue what the actual situation is. They have likely never seen the Resort's lay out at all.

Hmmm..... we're eating at Cape May on our departure morning and will be checked out of our resort before going. So we will be driving.

Does this mean we are likely to have trouble parking at Beach club that morning?

I think the whole thing has been taken out of context. The Disney site is telling non Boardwalk guests not to drive over to the Boardwalk and park in the self parking lots. No, it's not the best language but Disney is not going to say "hey, people! if you aren't a Boardwalk guest, don't park in the Boardwalk self parking area!" So the communication is done to not make other guests feel stupid.

If, as a Boardwalk guest, you want to park in self parking and not pay for valet, then you should be able to do it. If you can't, talk to the parking lot attendant and see what options you have. Don't bother to call the resort because you aren't talking to someone there, you are talking to a call center. So, there's no need to concern yourself with this until you are actually there.
