Excited about the revamp but also bummed. I will be there with my 73 year old mother in December and she will probably not be able to experience the revamp. We have to save for years to afford a trip and mom really wants to do a Disney cruise in a few years before she gets too old.

We were just there on Sunday. Not open. Not sure about during the holidays.

I can't believe Buzz is a 26 year old ride. In my mind it's a very new attraction. I swear we just went to the grand opening not too long ago.

I agree. Our 29 year old had just turned 3 when we took him in early 2000 and he LOVED riding Buzz. He loved the queue, everything about it. I'm thinking why gut the the whole thing already??!! Time flies. Sounds like a much needed update.

No, it closed for refurb in Aug 2025 and has not been open at all since then.

Pavement Torn Away in Front of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin​

The pavement has been removed from in front of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Magic Kingdom. The entrance signs and archway were removed a few days ago.



From the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, we could see the pavement directly in front of the entrance doors has been removed, leaving behind a swath of dirt. A decorative red pole is gone. The flowerbeds to either side of the entryway remain.


The dirt area extends a few yards in front of the doors. Other entrance infrastructure, like the MagicBand touchpoints, were also removed from the space. There is something covered by a tarp in the center of the space.

Below is what the entrance area looked like immediately after the attraction closed in August.


Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will reopen this spring with new vehicles, blasters, targets, and more.

The 26-year-old attraction will be closed starting August 4th, and remain closed into 2026 as updates are made to the ride.

Oh man! We're going to be there on August 5th! Such is life. We're hoping for extended evening hours on Wednesday, August 5th, so no point moving around our entire vacation schedule just for this.

I guess we'll just have to go to Disneyland over winter break. Aw shucks!

Disney World Files New, Lengthy Permit for Buzz Lighter’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom

A new permit filed by Walt Disney World is raising eyebrows here at BlogMickey HQ. The permit, which was filed earlier this week, is for Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom. What makes this permit interesting is the expiration date – especially when the attraction is getting ready to reopen after a facelift.

What caught our eye was the expiration date for the permit. Typically, permits leave the expiration field blank, which allows the permit to default to a 1-year expiration date. That is usually plenty of time for the average project at Walt Disney World. However, longer-term projects require expiration dates well into the future. That’s the case with this permit.

The permit has an expiration date of April 2, 2027, roughly 14-months from the day it was filed. This indicates that there is an extensive amount of work expected for whatever the project is. Unfortunately, the scope of work is listed as “general construction”, which is apparently just descriptive enough to satisfy the government.

As to what the project could be, that remains a mystery for now. The Buzz Lightyear attraction is scheduled to reopen this Spring, which means that there will be roughly a year of work left on whatever project this permit covers. Given that the permit is not assigned to Walt Disney Imagineering, we don’t expect the work to be creative in nature, but it will be interesting to see if we’re able to spot anything nonetheless.

Large Hole Dug in Front of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom



During our visit to Magic Kingdom today, February 5, we noticed a very large hole in front of the entrance to the attraction. In the hole is a new wooden structure. It only has a few vertical elements right now but this could be a new entrance structure.



There appears to be a couple of metal poles with some wiring at the back of the structure. The walls next to the entry doors also have new gray panels. The former entrance archway and signs were removed in mid January. Crews began to tear up the pavement soon after.
