Has your interest in the N.E. Revolution stayed positive during this season?
Well, I haven't been to see them or anything. If someone were to ask me what team I was hoping would win a given match, I'd route for them because they're my "local" team, but I couldn't tell you who all the players are or what their record is.

It's not that I have anything against soccer, just that I don't spend much time thinking about sports at all.

That’s cool too. I just thought you said your family was following the team more this season.

Fellow Disboarders, ask a me a soccer question if you have one. There's no such thing as a bad question.

They reminded me to watch the World Cup and (combined with Ted Lasso) prompted me to look up some info on Premier League teams, so I'd definitely say I'm more of a fan now. (Still not a superfan, nor looking to be, but more than I was.)
Will you be watching the EPL new season in August on NBC/USA Network/Peacock? If so, has your family picked a team to root for?

Just an FYI, this Sunday the USA will play Canada in the Gold Cup quarter final in Cincinnati at 7:30pm ET. The match will be broadcasted on Fox, Univision, and Onesoccer.

Do you work in some capacity for pro soccer? Maybe part of your job is to talk up the sport online.
No. I'm just a fan who tries to encourage others to give the sport a chance. Nothing more. The American/Canadian perspective on the sport and how it can change over time just interests me.

I won't be avoiding it, but I won't be planning around watching games either.

When I first learned a bit about the league, I picked Chelsea to root for because I think it's sweet that they still save a block of seats for veterans from the soldiers' home near their stadium:

Pensioners have a quota of seats given to them for home games at Stamford Bridge every season. In addition to this, when the club won the Premier League crown in 2005 and 2010, the Pensioners formed a guard of honour before the trophy presentation ceremony.

Captain America (CP10) plays for them too.

I love that the EPL plays the season out then - that's it. No playoff nonsense, just the games are the games and here's who came out on top. I also love the relegation aspect. Your team tanked, let's give another team a chance. Unfortunately, both of these things combined lead to absolutely zero parity in the league - and no better results for England in the World Cup either. You can't have it all.

I'd actually really love to see College Football do something similar - choose 15 or so teams to compete for the championship, all those teams play each other, best record takes it, bottom 4 get relegated back, best 4 other teams take their place, repeat. You can go back to the old traditional Bowl game matchups since those games would be meaningless (in terms of the champion anyway). Enough of the polls, enough of the playoff games, none of that is really doing any better job picking a champion than anything else that has been tried, and besides, these are supposed to be STUDENT athletes - let them get back to their studies - stop dragging the season on and on.

The only thing stopping Promotion/Relegation in other US sports is the potential revenue loss that American millionaires and billionaires are not willing to risk. Also teams cannot be relocated in Europe (the are clubs not franchises).

Which is exactly why I think it would work for NCAAF. You aren't going to relocate a college and the games would still be well attended even if they weren't in the championship grouping. Nobody is going to see a lower-tier NFL team play - except maybe the Browns ;)
