They will have national team games coming up in September, so teams use a B squad that desperately needs the minutes of pre-season practice.

It’s the oldest sport in the world. Variations of the sport have been played since Ancient Greece/Rome/China/and by Native Americans. It was played in the medieval ages and even in the 18th century. The rules were just changed every hundred years.
If you want to check out a match on tv this summer I would choose the USA vs Mexico CNL in June. It will be one of the best matches of the year.

International matches are a completely another level. The Stars and Stripes vs El Tri matches are life altering.
I am sure for fans of the game, they probably are next level. For me, I likely don't have the attention/inclination to appreciate the difference. Clearly, there is something special about rooting for a national team, but likely not something that would add an incentive to watch something that I am just not as enthusiastic about.

If your barber is an Italy fan, don’t mention North Macedonia. That infamous WCQ match still haunts them (and makes many USA fans laugh).
They reminded me to watch the World Cup and (combined with Ted Lasso) prompted me to look up some info on Premier League teams, so I'd definitely say I'm more of a fan now.
