Buying thru DVC and then resale

I have been reading this forum for awhile and need to thank everyone for all their input. My family has been to WDW 6 or 7 times since 1993 and are very close to making a decision to by at BCV.

My question: If I buy 150 points through DVC and then add a resale, can I use all points at BCV as long as I have them available? Since BCV would be my home, could I use the combined points at the 11 month window?

TIA,
TCincy

I'm pretty much a DVC newbie (purchased Hilton Head this past December) but I'll try to answer your question. If you purchase BCV through Disney and then purchase a resale at any other resort, you will only have the 11 month window on your BCV points and cannot use your points at the other resort along with your BCV points at the 11 month window. I hope that makes sense. But you could, in theory, with banking and borrowing have 450 of your BCV points available at one time.

If I was not clear enough, I am sure someone else will be more clear. Hope to welcome you and your family home soon!

Zera is right.... you only have the 11 month booking window for the points you own AT their repsective resorts.... You can combine all points at the 7 month window though (for DVC properties) AND you can combine all your points for the 11 month window to book in the Concierge Collection or Disney Collection or cruising.... as some examples.

You mentioned your interested in buying some points resale... 3 outta 4 of our contracts are resale (2 OKW 1 BWV) with our last contract being BCV. We wanted (and needed) the 11 month window all over the place! LOL But we are nuts.... lol

There is some debate going on wether it is better to have all your points at one resort or spread out like us.... Both have pros and cons..... I beleive one side said (the all in one side) it is much easier to deal with one home resort (even if it is more than one contract..... 500 points in two 250 contracts as appose to one 500 points..... eaiser to resell if needed down the road)

Which resort were you looking at for resale..... did you want to do resale for the money savings or do you prefer a resort not offered by Disney.....

The main key is to buy where you want to stay the most..... If you love two resorts equally then I would either buy points at the harder to book resort (Standard view at BWV, VWL as examples) or split the points you want between the two.... worst case is you book one resort at the 11 month window for the first half of your trip..........then book the second half at the other resort at the 11 month window. You can then attempt to swicth over at the 7 month window. If successfull great.... if not you get to split your stay at your two fave resorts :)

Hope this helps and doesnt confuse.........

As mentioned, only home resort points apply at the 11-month window. If you bought 150 BCV points and later 100 OKW points (thru resale), you would have 250 points. You could book a 150 point ressie at BCV at 11 months, or a 100 point ressie at OKW at 11 months, or a 250 point ressie at 7 months at OKW, BWV, VWL, BCV, HH, or VB.

When you think about it, it wouldn't make sense to allow combining home resort and non-home resort points to make an 11 month booking. If this were the case then everyone would only have to buy the minimum 25 point purchase at each resort other than their original home resort, to get 11 month windows anywhere. In such a scenario, the 11-month booking advantage would no longer exist.

This question comes up more often than not, so we're glad to answer.
