Buying right away at BLT?

Would there be any advantages or incentives in buying at BLT as soon as it goes on sale? I plan on doing my first add on contract there and I was debating whether I should wait to see what promotional offers come later in the year.

Speculation is that the first BLT offer will be the best BLT offer - partly because of complaints that the first offer for AKV wasn't the best, and partly because the resort is expected to sell very, very well.

Obviously, this may change if the underlying assumptions are changed.

we are wondering the same thing because we plan to do our first add on at BLT. My hubby doesn't think they will have any incentive to start.....we'll see!

I am buying points the first day they are available.

If I were buying at BLT (I have no intention on doing so), regardless of past sales situations at AKV, this economy is going to impact sales. If I were in the market, I would wait, wait , wait.

If I were to add on with BLT or any other property through Disney besides what I currently own, will I need to purchase the minimum 160 pts? Or can I purchase lower denominations? And does my current UY come into play as well?

Currently you can purchase as few as 25 points as an add-on if paying cash or credit card. If you financed by Disney, the minimum is 50 points.

An add-on direct from Disney will have the same use year. The only way to get a different use year from Disney is to buy a new master contract of 160 points or more.

Does an add-on need to be at the same resort as the master contract? We're getting ready to take the plunge and will want to have both AKL and BLT as home resorts. We were thinking buying an AKL contract and then adding on just enough BLT to allow a book a stay there at the 11-month window every other year.

BLT - Bay Lake Tower (ie the new construction at the Contemporary believed to be DVC property)

Caren - Thanks for clarifying my question.......

No it does not have to be your home resort. You can add points from any resort as long as they are available for sale.

When sales begin will all UYs go on sale the first day? This will be our first add-on.

I think many veteran DVC'ers will agree with me that BLT has peaked the most interest and anticipated demand than any previous DVC offering. As the laws of supply and demand work, Disney will not give anything away that they can make money on. Why offer a property for $98 when buyers are lined up willing to pay $110. DVC guides will verify to you that they all get many phone calls a day asking to be put on waiting lists for the offering of BLT. Would EXXON sell gas for $3.00 a gallon when the public will spend $4.00? Same principle. IMHO

Very good point indeed. When I was at SSR in May I spoke with my guide briefly about upcoming properties. While he was fairly tight lipped, his non-verbal ques suggested BLT was going to be the next offering. In that he also mentioned that their will be a price increase shortly. So, I wouldn't be surprised if BLT goes for $115 or more.

Ditto. 50 point add on, probably, first day available to DVC members. The add on will actually depend on what it costs to get a 1BR (assuming occupancy of 5) or maybe 2 BR for 2 nights, preferably (if they break it out) with MK view.

We're planning non a net cost of $100 per point. That's what we've got socked away to do it. If it's more than that, we'll finance it and pay it off real quick.

I am so on the fence about this....I really want to buy at BLT but it comes down to price. Yes, one side believes that it will be around the $100 per point for the following reasons:
1) The poor economy
2) Due to the poor economy the number of resales has increased so why pay $100 or more when you can pick up a resale for $75. No, you would not get the 11 month window but for that great of a price difference you may chance it.
3) With skyrocketing airfare and gas prices-attendance may go down so you might even get the BLT at the 7 month window.
4) AKV will not be sold out by the time they start to sell BLT and I doubt they would increase the price of AKV from $96 to over $100 nor would there be such a difference in price between to two.
5) Did I mention the poor economy?

On the other hand they may ask something outrageous because they want to see what they can get. That is what makes me think I too shall 'hold out.'

I think it will go over $100. They have had two price points right now... so why not going forward.

Disney still seems to be renting hotel rooms and if that continues they have an "outlet" if we won't pay the price.

IMHO the DVC at "risk" right now is Hawaii. If DVC cuts back it will be a delay there.

To add to your list: 6) Dues

I occasionally think about another add on (180 initial purchase, 70 add on all at SSR) but my primary worry is dues. I know it's a fraction of the total cost but that is an annual fee that I will be paying long after the actual purchase is paid off. My current dues are manageable but I'm not buying into BLT if it's $6/point. I'll take my chances at the 7 month window.

The more I read this thread - the more I think waiting might be the option. The present economy is certainly a factor. However, it would make sense for Disney to start high $$$ at BLT as the demand appears to be there. If the economy (or the "perception" of the economy) continues to decline, then Disney could back off on the price.

I'm going to see what the dues per point are going to be. I'd love to do a small add-on of about 50 pts. Just keeping those for BLT only. With banking & borrowing, it could work for and extra vacation every few years. :thumbsup2

If the dues are too high though, I'll have to think twice about it...
