Buying resale...Which way do I go?

For those who always say, buy where you want to stay. The addition to that is only if you book more than 7 months out. If you don't like we don't then it doesn't matter where you buy and right now the best bang for buck is SSR.
Correct but I'll be more stringent. For the things where home resort is important, it really is often 11 months day one when it comes online. For everything else the chances of getting it either directly or with a wait list is very high.

We originally bought 160 points at akv back in 2008, we have stayed there like twice, once in Jambo and once in kidani. Since then we have stayed at okw, vwl, ssr, bcv, and bwv. We never really had a problem with getting availability. At the beginning of this year we bought another 160 points resale, for ssr. We thought about buying at Boardwalk, but for the price of both points and maintenance we thought ssr was a no brainier. I want to say we paid in the 80 pp range. We are going again end of month and staying at Boardwalk again.

Since you really love near park resorts (BWV and VGF), I'd buy where you want to stay. If you were thinking of buying 150 points (and in my opinion, that's the minimum to truly take advantage of DVC if you plan to come annually), then buy 75 points at each resort.

Using the banking and borrowing option, you can book up to 3 yrs of points for one trip. More importantly, you can alternate two resorts that way.

For example, buy 75 points at each resort and :

2016: use BWV points and borrow 2017 points: 150 BWV points to use. Bank 2016 VGF points.

2017: Use banked 2016 VGF points and 2017 points: 150 points for VGF.

2018: Use 2018 and 2019 BWV points, bank 2018 VGF points.

Etc. For the few hundred dollars cost of a separate closing fee, you could own both. Buy where you both want to stay.

Beyond buying where you want to stay, which is great advice for most resorts, when you do the math be sure to consider the expiration date of the contract. SSR and OKW may be less per point, but the total years is likely also less, so the overall value may surprise you. Good luck with the decision!
