I have an opportunity to buy a small contract for April UY but all our other points are February at the same resort. It's been 10 years since I last bought so did not know if the rules changed.

Does it matter if I buy other than my current UY or are we required to buy the same UY for all contracts?

You're not required to buy the same UY. That said, a different UY means a different membership, as if you were two different people, and to use the points together, you would have to transfer points from one membership to the other. Many owners manage two or more UYs, but for the same home resort, I think it would add more complexity to actually using those points than I would want to deal with.

If you have a specific plan for that contract, it’s fine but as mentioned, you won’t be able to book a trip using all points in one reservation. Some nights on one or some on the other or do the transfer.

You can not transfer banked or borrowed points. You can’t borrow points that have been transferred so it does take a bit of work if you want to do it that way.

I have two UYs and I like it. I travel in opposite seasons and enjoy split stays, and I travel enough to clean up stray points. Maybe it works for your travel strategy?

IMO, unless you plan to use the April contract separately from the February contracts, it's not worth the booking hassles you'll have to manage. Plan to spend time talking to MS to clear up "glitches".

I have two use years, April and June, at two resorts. We bought enough points at each resort so that we didn't have to worry about transferring points to complete our stay.

I recently purchased a small contract at BLT that is in a different use year from the rest of my points. It was just a really good deal that I could not turn down.

I have two UYs, only because I wanted VGC and the perfect contracts popped up in a different UY. I do wish they were the same UY, but as my VGC is just for VGC, it’s not a huge deal. Any thought I might have had of “switching” if I found the right Sep UY has gone away with the rise in price of VGC resales. :-)

now every now and again, I consider whether I should pick up a contract with a Feb, Mar or Apr UY to cover dates in the May-Aug timeframe should we go to Disney then, as that’s after our banking window and I’m always nervous something would cause our plans to change. But so far, I haven’t done so and it’s worked out fine for us.

We have two UY. However we keep the same resort in the same UY. All our WDW resorts are in one and our Aulani and VGC are a different one and we’re bought based on when we want to travel.

We also have Aug and Dec UY and use them for traveling in different times of the year, Since the banking window is 8 months after the UY starts (for us, 3/31 for Aug and 7/31 for Dec): we can basically travel all year using the different contracts and not run into issues with scheduling trips beyond our banking window, Fall trips use Aug UY contracts and Spring trips use Dec UY contracts. Winter trios between Dec and Mar can use all contacts and we do not intend to travel to WDW in the summer. However, we could go to Aulani or Hilton Head (if availability) with Dec UY contracts t
for June/July or use Aug UY for Aug/Sep trips.
