Buying more points

HELP! I thought I had a good way of buying points over time. I purchased 50 points for the BCV with 50 points banked and plan to keep buying more points over time as I needed them. I spoke to a salesperson at disney today who told me that he had no more BCV points to sell and that he thought I would have to buy a minimum of 150 in a resort to be able to purchase more pointsin 25 point allotments. Is that true?

Does anyone own 2 resorts? How do you make your reservation? Do you mix and match?

you're guide probably meant that there are no more BCV points in your Use Year.

there might be some BCV points left in other Use Years, but you are not allowed to buy a different Use Year unless you buy a whole new master contract (which would be 150pts or more).

have you asked your guide to put you on the waitlist for more BCV points in your Use Year?

i'm sure the waitlist isn't that long for BCV.

if you wanted to buy OKW, that'd be a whole different story. it seems the waitlist for OKW takes forever.

call your guide back and get on the waitlist for 50pts (or more) at BCV.

There is no longer a requirement (it's been years) to own at a resort to buy 25, if this is what your guide was saying, they are wrong. Just get on the wait list and buy what you want when it comes up or buy at SS. You could also look at resale.

Thanks so much! I was so worried that my pay as I go scheme was not going to work. I'll call the guide and look for resales in small allotments. If I buy another resale at another resort, I assument I will be able to combine, but if I buy boardwalk at 50 and already have 50, do I get to call 11 months ahead on both resorts, bcv, or boardwalk?

yes your home resort will be both BCV and BWV - but at the 11 month time - you can use your points at BCV for BCV - same at BWV - it you want to combine these points at one resort - can't do it until 7 months - however you can bank and borrow points - so one year stay at BCV and the next year stay at BWV.

If I understand correctly, I believe your guide has given you good information. It sounds like your originally bought a resale of 50 points as your first purchase. What your guide is saying is that you must have a primary contract of 150 points or more to qualify to do an add on of as few as 25 points through Disney. Therefore, in order to do small add ons you will need to first purchase a contract of 150 points or more. That seems correct to me, but I will defer to others who have better information.

That may be and we've often wondered what would happen in this situation. If they allowed one to buy in though, I don't think they could change the rules. The rules say they won't sell a minimum of 150 as an initial ownership and that you can add a min of 25 cash or 50 finance. I find it hard to think they could justify straying from these rules. So once one is a member, they are a member. If DVC had a problem, they should have bought the contract under the ROFR. If this is their stance, go with a supervisor and push your request.

Just to emphasize. If you own 50 BWV and 50 BCV. You can only use the 50 points of each (plus banked and/or borrowed) at the 11 months window, you can no use the full 100 points combined at the 11 month window..

I fully agree with you, Dean. This might be an interesting case to follow for info purposes if this is indeed how the policy is being interpreted.
