Buying in and given last years points?

ok, maybe this is a really easy question but I'm just not understanding it.

We are buying at OKW w/ the extension. We are relatively young and this makes the most sense for us right now. Well apparently we will be getting all of 07's points as well that we can use this year? But I already rented points for this years vacation (in Dec). So what do I do with the points they are giving us? Instead of a split stay we'll just use some of them to stay at OKW for the weekend...we might have to switch rooms but maybe not. But then there would still be a ton of points leftover. Am I correct in assuming that a Dec UY means those points would expire 12/31/08?

For a December use year the points would expire on November 30, 2008. Why don't you just bank the ones you don't need? You are still well within the banking window. That will give you until November 30, 2009 to use the points.

You could sell a reservation or use them. Because they are banked points you will not be able to transfer them to another member. You could also use them towards a Disney Cruise or another vacation somewhere else, or treat family or friends to a trip.

If they told you that you could use them for the 2008 reservation they were correct but you would have to bank them to do it.

December 2007 points can be used from Dec. 1, 2007 to Nov 30, 2008. They are your current year points. They may seem like last year but you are now in your current use year. If banked they can be used from Dec. 1, 2008 to November 30, 2009. December use years in my opinion are the most difficult to understand. This example covering three calendar years is one of the reasons.

December is a great use year to have if you plan December vacations. That way if you have to cancel, you still have enough time to bank or use the points. There is no January use year but if there was it would be the worst for you.

He said when we closed...like a month or so from now...that we would have 440pts to use. This is what confused me about what year these points were from. We are buying 220points for a Dec UY and we'd close in Feb with 440pts available to use immediately. So we'd bank the 07-08 points and the extras must be from 06-07 but would still expire before our Dec vacation.
I think I need to call him back and get more clarification on what those points are exactly.

Good idea to call back. It sounds like you have 220-2006 points as well. In that case you will have 220 extra poitns that you will have to find a use for by November 30. That's a lot of points for not needing any for the year. Even if you book the weekend around your December stay, that still leaves you with the 220 banked 2006 points.

Of course maybe he meant that you would have 440 between the 2007 and 2008 points. Good luck.

I am butting in. On another thread someone said they just joined and received a bonus of developer point matching however many points you purchase. That would explain why you will have so many points at closing next month and then get more in Dec. That sounds great if its true!

Sorry to throw more complexity into the mix, but if you're calling your rep back anyway, talk to him/her about options with Interval International or one of the other trading companies. If there's no way you can use the points through Dis before they expire (assuming they are 06 points that cannot be banked), the II trade will allow you a longer travel tail. My understanding is that once you deposit, you have up to 2 years to use the points. Just thought I would throw that out there in case you end up in a situation where it's use or lose.

By the way...WELCOME HOME!!! You will love calling OKW home. It's one of my favorite vacation spots EVER!!!

We added March UY points while we were at OKW in Dec 07. We were given the 07 points as well. I banked the points just last week (now they are in my 08 UY). Just so you know.... we were already past the banking window but we were allowed to bank ALL of the points (no penalty). Both my guide and MS told me that there is a lot more flexibility with these points.
They knew that we just got them!! Check with your guide for a better understanding.

If you have purchased anytime after December 1, 2007 you will have 220 points from the current (2007) Use Year. If you want to use them after 11/30/08 you will need to bank them prior to 7/31/08. At this time, for a trip during December, 2008 , you have 220 points from the current Use Year (as long as they have been banked) and another 220 points from your 2008 Use Year - which begins on 12/01/08. (... AND... you could also BORROW 220 points from your 2009 Use Year. )
If you actually purchased prior to 12/1/07 then you would have 220 points from 2006 which should have already been banked (I doubt that is tghe case).
Unless something new has been added recently, there is no incentive of Developer Points for any purchase except SSR and AKV - so that is not likely included in your point total.
I expect that the 440 points are from 2007 and 2008 as already mentioned and I agree that December is a tough Use Year to understand since 11 months of tghe UY have a different chronological date than the UY itself.
