Hello~

I seem to remember sometime, somewhere that if you purchase DVC while on vacation at WDW, part of the cost of your vacation can be applied towards your buy-in of DVC.

I can't seem to find any info on that, and was wondering if I had made the whole thing up! :scratchin

That was a sales incentive about 10 -12 years ago which was later morphed into the $10 per point discount incentive (in exchange for your first year's worth of points) which remained for several years before changing again where Developer Points were the incentive along with a discount reduction. The original form of that incentive was directed at guests staying onsite where DVC would just take the appropriate number of points and offer the discount of $10 per point. Later, that incentive was offered whether staying onsite or by phone from home.

DVD has offered a number of incentives over the years - starting with the free Theme Park Admission program for early OKW and VB buyers. That had ended before sales began for HH and for a short while there was no visible sales incentive until the "Apply part of your current cash stay" incentive began - again where you had to forfeit your first year's points in exchange for the $10 per point incentive. It was made more palatable by the policy of giving new members a Use Year with only a few months left in the current Use Year so that the "first year's points" would be replenished in a few months. Dues were still paid on those points, but they were prorated (as they still are today) based on the date of purchase.

We got that deal back in 1997 when we bought into OKW. Part of our stay at the Polynesian was used towards our purchase.

Just completed last week a purchase of a 160 point add-on for BLT on-site at DL. I received the following incentives:

1. $112 purchase price less $5 Discount
2. 160 Developer Points
3. 2 Premier Annual Pass vouchers (no expiration at WDW)
4. Allowed to split the 160 points into 3 separate contracts of 60, 60 & 40.
5. Founding Member Status for VGC (exclusive right to purchase VGC from 1/25 - 3/25/09 prior to sale to non-founding members)

As far as I know this deal was only available if you made your purchase at DL. You had to purchase a minimum of 160 to get the 2 annual pass vouchers.

I believe that the same deal is still available except that you would not be able to split up your contract due to the minimum 100 point limitation now in effect.

Since I live close to DL and am able to use the 160 Developer Points at the 3 DL hotels (that I never wanted to pay rack rate to stay at) this was a very attractive deal for me. I am also considering a purchase a 100 point contract at VGC.

I understand where you're coming from! If I had known then what I know now, I would have purchased, and then booked my vacation with my points. Instead, we went down and paid over $1600 for a 1-BR at OKW. That was with the 25% discount my SIL/BIL got through DVC! :scared:

If you're still on the fence and want to take the tour, that's one thing, but we knew we were going to buy. I just didn't understand enough about how it worked to realize that we could have done the same thing over the phone. We could have taken that $1600 and applied it toward the purchase price and STILL gone on the same vacation! :sad2:

Best of luck on your decision to purchase, and picking a home resort! :thumbsup2

Thank you for the responses everyone!

Glad to know that I wasn't dreaming about this incentive... even if it was a very long time ago.
