I have a 200 and 60 point contract for SSR that I have bought directly from Disney. We stay often at the BCV and would like to buy a 100 point contract that would give us a week in a studio during our annual December trip ( we also go in May for 10 days). I will be financing this purchase. When I spoke to timeshare store they said I would have to look for my own financing at some recommended financial institutions that they would give me when I find a contract to purchase. I then spoke with DVC and, yes, the points are more but just 10% down and they would give financing at Disney preferred rate over 10'years. They estimate a 3-6 month wait list and I am in no rush so that would be fine. I know it is more money but DVC makes it a little easier. What are pros and cons of purchasing direct vs resale???

Thanks :)

We just added on 100 points at HHI direct from Disney. Easy financing and also very important to us -we got the use of the points within 2 days.

I guess it depends on the money. We bought 2 contracts direct from Disney and financed privately because their rates, even the preferred rate, were so much higher than what we found. We were lucky to find a 4.25% and have since refinanced down to 2.24%.

I know Disney wants $130 pp for BCV but did they offer you the $123 price for buying 100 points? They were doing that up until recently.

It's your decision, pay more buying direct, pay even more financing or pay less with the extra work of buying resale.

There's coming a time in the not-so-distant future where people buying these 2042 resorts on credit with only 10% down at Disney direct rates, and financing the full ten years will end up actually paying MORE to own DVC than they would spend by simply staying at the cash resorts with the common discounts.

I don't think we are quite there yet, with 28 years left, but the time is quickly approaching. Only hastened as Disney ratchets up their asking price on the classic DVC properties, despite the fact that the calendar on expiration continues to dwindle.

Anyway, I can't imagine buying a resort with only 28 years left, using ten year credit at usurious interest rates, and paying $123-130 a point. But maybe that's just me.

One of the timeshare stores finance referrals is to monera financial. Five years, no credit check.

Interest rate is high, but comparable to Disney. And. They want auto draft. But, that's fair, at least to me.

That ought to make resale at $95 vs $123 more appealing, especially if you might have to wait just as long buying direct.

$2700 savings. More or less.

Why not look for the right contract now resale then if you haven't found it, buying direct might be more reasonable.

We were looking to buy VGC through Disney, but were told it could take up to three years for availability with their wait list.

Also, buying resale you lose the ability to access the Concierge and Disney Collection options so you must decide if the Premium price through Disney is worth the wait and advantage of the other collections.

I'm a HUGE fan of resale. With that said, 1 advantage of Disney over resale is they wont ignore you. I have been emailing the Timeshare Store for over a week and they have yet to contact me.

Now I know this is not common. But It's VERY annoying when people just ignore you. I think I'll give another company a call.

Sorry to hear you are having this experience - they have always been very responsive and have bent over backwards to help fit me into some tight rental requirements as well as working to find just the right resale contract to fit our needs.

I agree with you on the resale - the savings on the front make it pretty hard to justify buying new for us, but I'm sure everyone's situation and what they are looking for is different.
