Does anyone have experience buying contacts on line? Do you mail/fax/scan a copy of your prescription or how do they know that it's valid? Who has the best prices and service?

I'm looking for Accuvue but in a high prescription.

Thanks!

They will have you fax over a copy of your prescription or they will contact your dr for the info. It is faster if you can fax them a copy. I have done this several times and they have been very fast and very customer friendly (1-800-Contacts is who I use).

I buy contacts online every year. Honestly, I find that you just really need to shop online because the prices can vary greatly. Generally I have found AC Lens to be the best priced; plus they often email discount codes to you for future orders. I also have found 1-800 Contacts to be higher than most online companies.
You can save SO MUCH money by ordering online rather than from your doctor! I NEVER order from my doctor anymore. Honestly, the cost is usually half by ordering online.
You will just have to fax a copy of the prescription before your order will be processed. It is easy and much cheaper!

I have used AC lens twice (plus I went thru either Sunshine or QR to get my rewards).

I had to fax or email them a copy of my script.

I've ordered from aclens.com and didn't have to fax a the prescription. I just entered what my prescription was, my eye doctor phone number, and they called and verified.

I've used 1-800-contacts as well with no complaints. However I found that the cost of the lenses I used dropped at the local eyear optical and I just go by there and pick them up now.

I also buy from 800-contacts and fax them my prescription. I also found out that while my doctor's perscription said it expires in one year 800-contacts said that many states require them to be good for 2, and Ohio is luckily one of them. If you have a year old script and it is still working for you give it a shot.

Thank you so much for sharing this information! I will definitely try this when I am almost out of contacts!

What I do is print out the on-line price and take it to For Eyes locally. They will price match. I recently got my Accuvue Oasys lenses for $19.95 per box before rebate. For Eyes wanted $39.99.

My eye doctor's office was $60 for my left eye Toric and $50 for my right eye (Bauch & Laum PureVision brand). ACLens has them for $43.95 and $35.95 respectively.

Ummmm... $80 is less than $110, thank you very much! Tack on a few extras I needed and free shipping I get it all for $105, which is still less than just the lenses only from the doctor! Craziness! I don't know why Doctors still think they can charge so much for things like that in today's internet age - eventually they will have to stop and lower their prices in order to compete.

I find it cheaper to buy my contacts at Costco. I got my Acuvue Oasys there for $22/box.

I am in Ohio too and mine is only good for a year. Glasses are good for 2.

I have purchased through Coastal contacts once and they even let you pay later. The 1st time I ordered they sent them to me and obviously didn't verify the prescription because it was expired. This year when I tried to order, it was denied because it was expired. They were cheaper than 1800 contacts. This year after I renewed the Rx, I got a coupon for free shipping from my entertainment book and ordered from 1800 contacts. Got a box for $18 total.
