Hi,

My wife and I are looking to buy a 150-175 BCV contract. I think I understand that the rate from Disney is $104.

1) Is this something that Disney has or is it a waiting list situation?
2) If you actually could get(just so understand) a UY Dec. Would you get point for 2008 or is it like a resell that some would have point and some would not.
3) Do you need to be referred to a guide? Should you be referred-is there any benefit?
4) Can you tell Disney I'll pay 100 a point or is this a no haggle situation?

Thanks for any information. We decided to buy last week, but all the resells that are good sold and I don't want to buy a "stripped" out contract that I can't use till 2010!

I don't have all your answers but I may be able to help some...

1) It depends. They could have the points available, but you'd have to call to see what was available. It's a good possibility you'd have to wait for BCV
2) Since Dec UY starts Dec 1, you would definitely get 08 points (I'm not sure about '07 points)
3) You don't need to be referred but sometimes there are referral incentives
4) You could tell Disney that you'll only pay $100 but they would then say "no thanks" and sell the points to the next person on their waitlist.

We bought 2 contracts (one is closing soon) resale but from a reseller (not Disney). Although the process takes a little longer to actually transfer the contract and close the deal, the prices are much cheaper (even after the higher closing costs) and are more negotiable (as long as you pass ROFR)

I hope that helps some,
Mike

Hi,

There is a waiting list. The wait can be as short as a week or two or many months depending on which UY you want and the number of points you want. Minimum purchase for a new member is 160 points.

2) If you actually could get(just so understand) a UY Dec. Would you get point for 2008 or is it like a resell that some would have point and some would not.
DVC usually sells contracts with a full set of current UY points although if you are very close to the end of the UY they may not have any current UY points left. For a Dec UY, the current UY is 2007 so provided your points came through relatively soon you would start with 2007 points. If you purchased on/after Dec 1, 2008 then your contract would begin with 2008 UY points.

3) Do you need to be referred to a guide? Should you be referred-is there any benefit?
No you do not need to be referred. A referral would not benefit you in this case since you want to purchase a sold-out resort. They sometimes offer additional purchase incentives for the resorts they are actively selling (AKV in this case) when you are referred by an existing member but there are no purchase incentives for the sold-out resorts. DVC offers referral benefits to the person who refers you, though I'm not sure if it applies when someone purchases a sold-out resort.

4) Can you tell Disney I'll pay 100 a point or is this a no haggle situation?
It's no haggle for any of the resorts directly from Disney and especially for BCV points since they have a waiting list.

If you aren't looking for a particular Use Year, the wait for points will be shorter. Some people spent less than 2 weeks on the waiting list for BCV points. Others are still on the list after many months. Give DVC a call and tell them what you want and see what they have available. Good luck!

Hi, I have asked the same question of my Disney guide. You go on a waitlist and depending on what use year you want as to how quickly you will get your points. I was number 9 on the waitlist and now I am number 3. I believe you pay what they are asking, that it was it seems like to me.

Speaking from recent experience -- don't rule out resale.

We decided in April that we wanted BCV, and our DVC guide told us it would be a year for a ~200 pt contract. Within a few days, we had several options from a reseller and had made an offer on a 210 pt contract.

The contract did have some '08 points already used, but not stripped. We got this year's maint. fees pro-rated, and saved a ton vs. Disney's price per point.

Just FYI, don't be discouraged at the listings on reseller web sites. Contact some resellers and tell them what size contract and UY you are looking for. Resellers have own waiting lists and will give the people on their list first crack at a matching contract before they post them on the web site.

For what it's worth, I recommend Jaki Apetz at **********.com.

I bought a 25-point BCV (December UY) add-on from Disney last month and got the 2007 points. I was on the waitlist for four days. I've now been waitlisted for about 10 days for another 25 points. I'm hoping it will come through in time to get the 2007 points for that one, too.

If you're interested in resales, you should get on the TSS's mailing list so you'll get updated whenever they have new listings.

Disney inventory has increased due to foreclosures and non payment of dues. If you really want to buy from Disney, now looks like it will be a good time.:thumbsup2
