We are thinking of buying a small (less than 50 point) contract at OKW. Would it be better to try and get this re-sale or could you get the points through Disney?

We are currently in the process of a re-sale at OKW.

Thanks

I think buying from Disney would probably be the way to go. (1) You'll get your same use year, (2) You won't pay closing costs and (3) You can finance with Disney.

Totally agree with the above poster. You also won't have the long wait time associated with the closing process (if DVC has the points in stock to sell you). Unless you find a really loaded small contract, the closing costs do not outweigh the point cost savings.

Good luck!! (snicker)--another one who buys a resale contract and is ready to add on even before done closing---this board is SO BAD!!!!!

Robinb, was reading your post, i am interested in buying, do you have the site where you can buy directly through Disney, are the monthly payments reasonable. Thanks nana2tots

Here is the website for DVC: http://dvc.disney.go.com/dvc/index?bhcp=1

You'll have to call a salesperson to find out about payments. Be aware that DVC is expensive!

I understand it is expensive, that's why i fully don't understand how so many people can afford this. Would it be worth it, if you go once a year, and we generally (family of 6- two families), usually spend 2,000 to 3,000 every time we go. nana2tots

Well ... I think DVC can be "worth it" if you go every year. But ... it's not going to be as cheap as staying at the value resorts. We bought after staying at a value resort, but we were DINKs at the time and disposable income :cool1:. For 2 families (6 people) you would need a 2 BR. You could get away with 2 studios, but you would be missing a lot IMO. We own 430 points and our yearly dues are over $1500. That doesn't count the approximate $25,000 we paid for the points (some in cash, some on a Home Equity Loan which is now paid off). We bought on the resale market ... direct through Disney is much more expensive.

If you're interested in more about DVC, I like Brian Bennet's Mouse Planet website: http://www.mouseplanet.com/dtp/dvc/ .He has a link to the DVC point charts so you can see how many points you would need for your family.

LOL - so true

Thanks for the advice. Once we become DVC members I will contact Disney

We had to buy resale because we do not want 150 points at this time.
We really just need 60 points for our current "habit", 5 nites in the fall in a Studio.
So, we bought a small 30 point SSR contract resale to get into the system. Next, we will probably buy a 30 point add-on direct from Disney.. so we can get same use year.

Hope everything goes well with your resale. On a small add on, I would agree that it is easier, though probably more expensive, to go the direct route. We have done so three times, LOL.
