Buying a combo of resale and direct

Forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere. I'm looking for some clarification about owning both resale and direct contracts and how the points can be used together. For example, if I own 100 points at Riviera (direct) and 200 at AKV resale, can i use all 300 at Riviera, or only the direct points?

Also, how does the same scenario work when booking outside of your home resort? For example, can I book all 300 at AKV at 11 months, or only the 200?

Are there any other c9nsiderations im missing with the direct/resale combo?

Does it make more sense to buy all at the same resort? Is that even realistic with the wait lists for direct points at resorts that aren't currently for sale direct?

For reference, we're looking at AKL, BLT, or Poly as possibilities.

You can only use home resort points at 11 months so the 200 AKV points could be used there at 11 months and the 100 Riviera could be used there at 11 months. With the AKV points being resale (post Jan/19) they could not be used to book into Riviera. At 7 months you could combine the points into one stay at any existing resort except Riviera.

I'd probably keep them at the same resort myself but others would prefer to have 2 different home resorts. We did the resale/direct combo back when it only required 25 points so we did both at AKV.

Points never change home repost status or the rules associated with them. Owning both types of points doesn’t change that.

So, a RIV set of points are only good at RIV at 11 months and AKV points only good at 7 months. You can combine all at 7 months for any resort except RIV, since resale points can not be used there..unless you owned them before the restriction.

In terms of UY, keeping it the same allows you to do what I mentioned above. With a different UY, you will have 2 memberships. That means it’s like being two different owners. You can’t even combine points without a transfer, Once transferred, you’d have to call MS as they can’t be used online. Unless you have a specific reason for getting 2 UYs, it is better to stay with one,
