Are they trying to push VDH out before people start feeling the recession?

Perhaps it got lost in the thread but one of the questions I think was buying resale so as to be considered current DVC and eligible for VDH members discount price.

Based on past experiences, any idea what that discount would be at VDH? I’m assuming it’s the usual sliding scale of buying more points equates to more discount.

Could it start at 100 points at $5/pt off?

I think we will add in the 100-150 points range.

Here is an article from when RIV went presale to give you an idea.

Obviously, that was in March of 2019, at a completely new luxury resort (not just a tower), at WDW resort surrounded by lots of other DVC options and an established membership, and that is not walking distance to any other parks. So… take it for what you will.

I took this sentence in your post to mean that you were recommending to buy DVH direct first and then buy a smaller resale contract. I was recommending something slightly different (buying the resale first) so that the OP could get current member pricing incentives.

Either way, I just hope the OP’s family makes a decision that makes the most sense for them within the constraints of their family budget.

Lol yeah I meant resale then direct but I think my mind was only half functioning since I was writing it from the parks I don't think it ever really makes sense to do direct first, if you do resale you get to choose your UY and get current member incentives. Maybe if someone needed the points immediately for a trip but that'd be about it.

Thanks AstroBlaster. Did a little spreadsheet price per point credit based on the Riviera past experience. So in the world of DVC as a buyer your not talking huge dollars if buying a small contract. But if buying 150 VDH points, a $1500 to $2000 credit for existing members is worth pursuing if planning to already to buy. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out. I don't think we'll have to wait much longer before we know.

Lots of great wisdom already shared. Is the 11 month booking advantage for you important at Disneyland? If I were you, I’d buy VDH direct if DLR is your park of choice. But because of the premium you’ll be paying to own VDH, I’m not sure you’ll want to use your VDH points to stay elsewhere. And the VDH points chart will be on par with VGC IMO. I would also add a smaller Aulani contract for SAP, since resale prices are so low right now. A subsidized contract would be ideal.

The new tower being built at the Disneyland Hotel is really what I am interested in, as VGC is so points heavy
Here are the scenarios I currently have rolling in my head:

I doubt DL tower is going to come in light, just because it wouldn't make sense to have a much lighter point chart next door. I would bet the charts are pretty close. DLT chart might even exceed VGC if they add some view categories or something. Generally speaking, charts don't go down, so maybe this one just gets to be equal.

If VGC is too many points for you, DLT probably will be too. I'm having trouble finding the DLT thread. Doesn't it only have a few 1BRs anyway? Are you even going to be able to book this?

I can see DVC changing the 150 minimum for DLT, and allowing something like just 100 points or something. But that's still going to be crazy expensive with a massive chart.

Yea, 19 1BRs in 350 rooms. This might be setting yourself up to fail even if you do buy DLT points.

1BR chart for early may at VGC is 48/39. What's wrong with buying 150 VGC points right now? If you go to DL every year, this shouldn't go to waste. I wouldn't be worried at all with being able to resell this. VGC is at a crazy low right now, and they aren't making more of it. This is your chance if you want to do it.

Obviously, you shouldn't use these point for WDW, but you aren't buying this for WDW. If you want to go to WDW, just stay at Swolphin or rent points. It's not that hard to book 1BR at WDW.

You'll close on those points well before VDH goes on sale. You'll probably catch addonitis before VDH starts selling. That will be your bigger challenge.
