Butt dialing and listening in

My DD's friend bd her mother. She and another friend were talking, and she was telling her about getting pulled over by the police for speeding, (she had already gotten one ticket for speeding) well she cried to the cop, and told him her mom was going to take her car away if she got another ticket, so he just gave her a verbal warning.

But, mom was waiting at the door when she got home...... of course, she didn't get her car taken away. I told my DD, of all the times to bd you mom...go figure.

My DD15 buttdials me from school sometimes. I usually listen a little to make sure everything is ok, like a PP mentioned. My Mom "purse" dials me sometimes and I do the same thing. . .I listen and try to see if I can hear her talking and then I hang up. I worry more with her because of her age.

I feel like butt dialing has gone down because of the more recent version of smartphones where you have to hit that button to do anything, and it's a button that is hard to accidentally hit. But when is does happen, which was at it's peak 1-2 years ago for me, it's fair game to listen in. If you don't want to be heard, then make sure it doesn't happen. You can't accidentally send someone the wrong e-mail and expect them not to read it.

Another reason I love a flip phone. I would have no problem with DH listening if it was to happen. Grandson has called me before like that. I tried to get his attention to let him know, not to listen in to what he was doing.

I think it's rude to listen once you've figured out what's going on. If it's obvious the person who called you is not being held hostage, what reason do you have to listen?

If I accidentally butt-dialed DH (which I never would, since I don't carry my phone around at home), all he'd hear would be either the radio or me talking to the fish or cat.

I think it's harmless and not something to get upset about.

Since the cat doesn't even realize we have the fish, I'm not too worried about them being in cahoots.

I caught my ex-husband cheating because of butt dialing. I had my suspicions but that confirmed it for me. Happened a long time ago and I was grateful for the heads(bottoms?)up!

I have an employee who butt dialed me twice. The first time he threw the phone down after dialing my number (so more like he didn't hang up correctly) and called me every name in the book, screaming at the top of his lungs (he was in his car). It went to my voice mail and was quite interesting to listen to. He had only worked there a few months so it was quite a shocker. I let him know it happened and dropped it from there because I didn't feel it fair to punish him for what he never intended for me to hear (or anyone else for that matter).

Two years later he did it again!! He's just a blow hard who would never say these things to anyone aloud. I did ask him to take me off his speed dual.

Funny, I just got butt dialed twice from my nephew this afternoon. Nothing going on, just some background noise, but I was fairly sure he wasn't being abducted so I hung up.
