Bush was told levies could break ....

#1 We just saw pictures from last week's Mardi Gras and the camera teams also toured the parts of the city not yet cleared: The reports showed dozens of car wrecks still polluting the area. But it is a well known fact that the American public doesn't get to see as much as we do - Be it Iraq-coverage or be it of the conditions in your country.

Do you have a cite for that well-known fact?

Goodness Lora, you're wrong again.

I can see faults, but this is a thread discussing the levees, right?

I don't think the war is unjust, I don't think he lied about the intelligence.

Was the intelligence absolutely correct? Doesn't look like it. It doesn't mean that everyone i the free world didn't believe it though.

Yep, you sure see a lot more than me, and I live here....I never said it was completely cleared, and I told you why...yet again someone who is thousands of miles aways know more about New Orleans than I do, and I live here.

When I used the word "may" possibly hit and getting a lot of heat here about that, I'm not just speaking of evacuation beforehand. I'm talking about them being prepared on ANY level, including bringing in supplies, food, to getting them out after the fact. Again, it goes from local government up. Now you want to see great leadership, with 9-11, Mayor Guilliani was phenomenal. Your Mayor, Governer all the way up to the President showed terrible leadership. They had no plans for any aspect of what to do if a hurricane of this size hit. It was just too big and too overwhelming. You that are from the area I'm sure did see more than we see here on the news, but that is how it appeared. And Ms. Kreamer, I apologize about the cheap shot. My 79-year-old father is not the greatest speller, but is one of the most intelligent people I have ever known. But he had to leave school in the 7th grade to work and support his family, has respect from all I know, and educated himself, can speak on any subject, a truly brilliant man with the highest integrity, went on to obtain a high position in his union, helping the working people as he always was. I mention this only bc President Bush has had the best education possible afforded to him, what is his excuse?? And just to mention I find the extreme right and extreme left both a little scary!

At least nobody died as a consequence of Clinton's actions. The worst thing that happened there is that an intern's heart got broken.

Kind of like you guys saying Cliinton only lied under oath to having sex with an intern, no big deal right?

Lies are always bad, but it's easy to assess the penalty and situation leading to each lie.

Clinton said that he was faithful; he wasn't and that's just sad.

Bush and Blair said that the WMD evidence in regards to Iraq was solid; it wasn't and that's abysmal.

Honesty is more important where lives are at stake. It's a pity you can't see the difference, but no great loss.

I don't think he lied about the intelligence.

I suppose that there have to be people who blindly believe such things even when presented with the facts, but honestly, you're just making yourself look sillier by the minute!

Bush was repeatedly advised that the evidence was "weak", "flimsy" and "thin" - he said it was fact (Iraq "absolutely" has stockpiles of WMD).

Of course, not everyone has such a high standard for honesty - some are just blinded by hatred and willingly ignore the evidence. Good luck with that - you'll need it :guilty:

A quick search shows that Clinton's approval ratings never dropped below 55% (http://www.pollingreport.com/clinton-.htm); Dubya's approval ratings have averaged between 35-40% (http://www.pollingreport.com)

Why should Clinton fare any worse in history than JFK? I thought (believe/heard) that JFK was another one known for his extramarital affairs.

Don't forget that the elder Bush didn't go after Saddam. We could play this game all day.

Yeah talk about a slow news day…I guess the press is still mad because nothing became of their big investigations into the Cheney shooting conspiracy.. or the wiretapping conspiracy..or the UAE port deal conspiracy..on and on same old media BS.

I remember seeing the Katrina video on the news DURING the hurricane..so it old news. As a matter of fact I think a few people were bashing President Bush at the time for “turning it into a news/photo op”.

(AGAIN) Is this the smoking gun that they are going after President Bush with? Him more or less repeating almost word for word in a Sept 1st interview something that he heard the National Hurricane Center Director Max Mayfield said a few days earlier? What am I missing?

From www.cnn.com

Bush has been accused of showing poor leadership after the disaster, and for indicating, along with Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, that no one could have anticipated that the flood protection system for New Orleans, Louisiana, would be breached.

However, transcripts from video conferences on August 28 and 29 show that National Hurricane Center Director Max Mayfield expressed concern that Katrina might push its storm surge over the city's levees and flood walls.
"I don't think anyone can tell you with confidence right now whether the levees will be topped or not, but that's obviously a very, very great concern, " Mayfield says in one.

In a September 1 television interview, Bush said, "I don't think anyone anticipated the breach of the levees, " a statement Chertoff agreed with three days later.

BTW here is the time line I posted the the Katrina thread months ago.

Didn’t President Bush declare a state of emergency in Louisiana on August 27th?.

Don't forget that the elder Bush didn't go after Saddam. We could play this game all day.

he also warned his soft-headed son not to go after Saddam either. his reason was "there's no good exit strategy". wasn't that about 15 years ago... :rolleyes1 at least some Iraq intelligance was correct. don't worry, Cheney will award Halliburton a no-bid contract for the gulf coast soon.
