The comparison of the two pictures--Kerry/ Dukakis and Bush holding Mein Kampf is a false comparison.
Bush is not a neo-Nazi, nor is he a dictator, nor is he a genocidal pathological maniac. The juxtaposition of the Kerry and Dukakis photograph is perfectly valid. Although juxtaposed, the images are not manipulated photoshop products nor the rendering of some twisted anti-Democrat. Both photographs (of Kerry and Dukakis) were photo-ops that were cleared by each of their own campaigns. Each are legitimate images neither falsified or altered.
While the photographs, most importantly, demonstate the complete inability of both (Kerry and Dukakis) campaigns to market their candidate through images for their benefit, more importantly, each image dramatically illustrates the confusion, flippancy, and inappropriate whimsy of both candidates (Kerry and Dukakis). They are each extremely telling images. Certainly, this is the reason the Kerry campaign, despite their having produced the photograph (from Nasa) in the first place, wants to limit the publication of it.
The Bush juxtaposition with Hitler and other photos like it, is nothing more than hate speech in image form. Also, this is classic Agitprop whose goal is to rile up the anti-Bush forces. These are images whose target audience is neither learned nor sophisticated. However, the popularity of these images is a good indication that hate images, hate speech, and highly charged negative campaigning has hit a fertile audience with those on the left.
Also, the comparison between bin Laden's and Bush' religious philosophy is both obscene and absurd. I don't mean to tell you folks, here, that the foundation of Christianity, which Bush is an adherent of, is built upon peace and forgiveness, while bin Laden's religion is built upon violence, revenge, and death.
If you were unaware of these truths, you ought not be spending so much time on these boards--rather your local public library may be a better venue for your time. (this is probably where you-know-who will chime in!)
The thing that bothers Bush supporters the most is the emotional response that comes from the opposition. When valid arguments are given, the facts are almost invariably ignored while the source of the facts is condemned as being too Right-wing or partisan to be trusted. The Republicans hold the White House and the Senate--which hasn't been the case for 40 years. Certainly, this is a cause of concern/anger amongst many Democrats.
The idea that Democrats are more compassionate than Republicans is a popular--albeit incorrect--one these days. That's because the core issue for the Right is National Defense, while the core issue for the Left are, among many others, National Healthcare and increased minimum wage. Fundamentally, there's a deep disconnect between the Right and the Left insofar as to what is crucial. If the Left fails in this election, their core agenda for them can be dealt with at a later time. If the Right fails in this election, and the focus of the United States is NOT National Security, the core issues of the Left will be dealt with ONLY insofar as they relate to survival of the United States. This is an essential misunderstanding on the part of the Left of the nature of the current struggle that we are in.
From a rational perspective, those on the Left should actually be supporting George Bush--to secure the continued viability of the Left's key platform points.
