Bush has cut his holiday short to stop the death of a mentally damaged woman.

So... is this a crass interjection into private affairs or a moralistic crusade?

I say... both.

I disagree totally with his getting involved (or congress). I don't care what his motives are, it is just wrong.

The government has NO BUSINESS getting involved in personal matters, regardless! I think this has gone far enough, and nature needs to take it course.

Unfortunantly, not everyone feels this way and government inches its way more and more into our lives each day.

When it's a life that can't speak for, or defend itself, who should get involved?

The person who knows them best I guess. Sadly, her husband says she doesn't want to live like this and her mother says she would.

A husband would know better in this situation; being that you are around a husband pretty much 24/7 when not working.

The husband that the law says in the person that speaks. Unfortunately that isn't enough for the lunatics in Florida.

I totally agree with this. But it's a sad situation isn't it? Husband versus mother - the family is being torn apart :(

Why are they lunatics?

And since there is nothing in writing they should err on the side of life. I hope the husband is innocent but there's always that worry too.
I don't think removing the feeding tube is letting nature take it's course. I think they should stop any extra methods to help her live, including treating infections and colds. Allow the feeding tube because it's already in place. If she succombs to any illness that would be nature taking its course. I always thought it was unusual for somebody in such poor shape to live this long.
I don't think providing nutrients is the same thing as keeping a heart beating or lungs pumping.

I wonder if they can read serotonin and noradrenaline levels in the brain? See how happy she is - or should be?

I do not think the 'husband' has the moral high ground here. IF he were at Terri's side and trying to do what is best for her, then yes.
But THIS person abandoned Terri as soon as he collected the million dollar payoff for "taking care of her for the rest of her life."
Somehow as soon as he got the money, he left and got a new common-law wife and started a new family in a different location. He then 'remembered' a long ago casual conversation where she said she didn't want this.
Too bad he didn't remember this before he got his million bucks. He could have pulled the plug then and be done with it - while he was still a "husband"
Yes - I know his common law marriage arrangement does not legally constitute a divorce in the terms of Florida law.
I am not arguing law - I am commenting on what is RIGHT.
Here - the parents clearly have the moral high ground. It is just inconvenient for the 'husband'
I don't think the husband care a bit about Terri or her wishes. I am surprized that even in Florida that the courts will agree with him.
We need better judges.

Something that I would like Senator Martinez from Fla (who was asked point blank and did not answer) and/or anyone who is pushing this to congress...

"If this goes through and a federal court reviews this case, will congress accept their decision as final?"

Noone seems to want to answer that question.

I don't think that this should be a debate about whether or not her feeding tube should be taken out. The bigger issue here is that you have one man imposing his morals on an entire nation even going so far as to single-handly (undemocratically and unconstitutionally) try to overturn a legal ruling. And they say that no man is above the law.

That was the exact intention, thankyou! :)
