For me, it's just one more reason to have no respect for him. After 9/11 there was that brief little moment when I thought I could get behind him -- honestly it's the truth. But time after time in these past few years I've seen how it was misplaced trust.

You, me, and millions of others rallied behind this president after 9/11 only to watch him and his neo-con possee exploit the grief and anger over 9/11 into fighting a war in Iraq they had been salivating over for years.

Imagine Normandy. 2500 casualties a day. Enormous miscalculations, blunders and sheer incompetence.

Between Code Pink, the cable talking heads and the New York Times, we wouldn't have lasted past the first week.

How many times do I have to do it? Why do I have to do the work for you? Do you think that if you ignore what I said enough times I will just give up? You're right, I will give up, because it's not worth it, but one more time, I've used the example of corporate america to show what grown up people do when there is a crisis, but I've also said that it's reasonable in a war for a president to take some time off, but that Bush has gone beyond what is reasonable. He never once stopped -- it's not like the war's dragged on and all of the sudden he needed a vacation. None of this has ever cut into his fun time.
:rotfl: Yes, being POTUS is all about "fun" time.

So now we've gone from no vacations to some vacations...I guess that's a start.

Speaking of fun time, I'm still waiting for you to enlighten us on what President Bush does on his vacations that other Presidents don't do...

Excuse me, but I don't recall JFK pretending to be a cowboy. Just my observation.

Carry on.

It only becomes partisan politics when you don't happen to like the politics. If Ms. Sheehan was outside the faux Crawford ranch with a sign glorifying Bush and his war, she would've probably been invited in for an iced tea with the family.
:rotfl: You're right... I can't make this stuff up, but you seem to have a certain knack for it.

Supporter or protester... Ms. Sheehan would have an incredibly difficult, if not, nearly impossible time gaining another audience with the President. He has more important things to do than coddle someone who chooses to turn their grief into public charade.

We know of at least one memo, dated August 6 2001 with the title "Bin Laden Determined To Strike In the US", that slipped by Bush while he was on vacation.
And we know of numerous times when his predecessor had opportunities to actually capture Bin Laden, but instead chose to look the other way. So what? Both sides made major goof-ups that led to 9/11. But I forgot, you don't "do" partisan politics, right?

He pretended to be a faithful husband. Your point would be???

You're on a roll today. Maybe you forgot his minor fiasco... the Bay of Pigs...

"Don't recall JFK pretending to be a cowboy."

"You can't make this stuff up."

I gotta stop reading... you are cracking me up today!!

This would be true of every war we've ever fought if the media environment was the way it's been for the last 30 years or so.

Can you imagine the modern-day coverage of Valley Forge? Antietam? Iwo Jima?

There you go again, revising history to make a political point. I can't speak to Valley Forge, but there was extensive coverage at both Antietam and Iwo Jima.

Harpers Magazine had somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 correspondents in the field covering the various battles of the Civil War. The correspondents filed daily reports with the Harpers. In addition, photographers followed the battle and took of the aftermath to much criticism that the photos were too bloody and too graphic. The most famous of these photographers is Matthew Brady.

In addition, there were correspondents/photographers at every battle during WWII. But since you mentioned Iwo Jima, who do you think took the photo of the troops raising the flag, not once but twice? Marine still photographers Bill Campbell and Harry (?) Rosenthal took those photos.

You're actually trying to compare the invasion of Normandy with the invasion of Iraq?

This can't be real......I must be dreaming.

I'm sure Bush has more brush to clear.

Hey, you guys are comparing Iraq to Viet Nam.

Plus,

Enormous miscalculations, blunders and sheer incompetence

has been tossed about a few times regarding Bush and the war in Iraq. What Bet was probably implying is that in spite of that during WWII, we still won. WWII is over. Even after it was over, it wasn't really over for a long time. Iraq isn't over yet either.

I never said their was NO coverage. But it was very different than what we have in the modern era.

No!!!! The theatrics are some of the best parts of this thread. I haven't laughed this hard in weeks.
