How often do they run? Is there a set schedule or is it just every half hour or however many minutes? Do they make the same trip to the same parks in the same order each time? Or do they go directly to certain parks? I'm trying to figure out if driving directly to a park would be faster than waiting for a bus and then sitting on it for a while before we get where we want to go.

Also, when going between resorts, is it faster to just drive, rather than going to a park and then switching to a bus that goes to the resort you want to go to?

I was considering taking the ferry from the MK to WL for the Hoop Dee Doo - sounds easy, right? But will it take forever to get back to ASP after dinner? Should we drive to MK in the am, then, then to WL then back to ASP?

Sounds WAY to complicated for vacation. Help!

The busses run from the resorts to the parks approximately every 20 minutes. The schedules aren't set to any specific departure/arrival times. Some resorts share busses with other resorts depending on the resort, and the AK and DTD busses will usually stop at TL/BB on the way to/from their destinations.

Driving yourself is probably quicker if time is of the essence, but the busses are generally very efficient in getting people to their destinations. Getting around WDW is really not very complicated once you get used to the area.

One more thing... the HDDR is at Ft Wilderness, not WL. You can still take the boat from MK, it stops at WL, but you want to get off at Ft Wilderness.

Good luck!

Buses run very efficiently at WDW. Remember that MK the closest you can get is the TTC. From there you have to hop the monorail so driving to MK is not easier than a bus.

Between resorts there is no bus service to it is quicker to drive.

As far as getting back to the resort from HDDR, when we went last Jan they had busses waiting for us when the show ended adn there were several very helpful CM's at the bus stop directly everyone on the best way to get where they were going. It worked out very well.

This is true for the later shows. If you are going to the 5PM show, you would need to take the boat back to MK and take your resort bus from there.

Once you understand Disney transportation you will find it very good and efficient. We have not rented a car in years and have never missed having one. As someone already stated, you cannot drive to the Magic Kingdom. You have to park at the TTC and tram or walk over to the monorail or boat to get to the MK. The Disney buses leave you off right at the entrance of all the parks. For going from one resort to another always plan on a theme park visit first. If you are at the MK you can boat or monorail over to the Poly, Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge. You can also walk to the Contemporary. For the Epcot resorts (Boardwalk, Beach and Yacht clubs, Swan and Dolphin) you can walk from the Epcot International Gateway or from the Disney Studios. You can also take the Friendship boat to any of these resorts. The Friendship boats run all day from the IG of Epcot to the Disney Studios.
Some people complain about Disney transportation, but given the numbers of people they move every day they do a fabulous job.
