I know that you cannot beat a monorail resort for MK and Epcot access, but what about access to the other parks.

We will have a car, but I really rather use Disney transportation if the trips are not to long.

I am really leaning towards upgrading to the Poly, and I am trying to think of everything before I take the big $$:earseek:$$ plunge.

I feel the Poly has some of the best transportation at Disney. To go to MK take the monorail or the boat. To Epcot, walk to TTC and take Epcot monorail. To AK or MGM, take the bus to that particular park. Sometimes the Poly will share a bus with CR of GF (I don't recall which one it is currently), but it usually isn't a problem. DW and I were there during Xmas week and always got a seat on the bus.

I've always rented a car at Disney because I've always gone off site a few times. But for going to the park I almost always use Disney transportation. The only exception is if I will be leaving a park and going directly to DTD.

Hope this helps.

The Poly has great transportation. Stayed there myself a couple of times.
But for my money I would stay at the Swan or Dolphin. You can walk into Epcot from those hotels, or use the watertaxi to go to MGM.
The Magickingdom is great, but there's so much more to do at the other parks.
Dolphin has great deals and as they say: location, location, location.
Been to WDW 14 times, stayed at 12 different reports. While Grand Floridian is my favorite, Dolphin made more sense.
Have a great time and don;t try and do everything on your first trip. It can't be done. Do what you can and see what you can in the time allowed, then plan a 2nd and 3rd and 4th and 5th trip.

We love the transportation options from the Polynesian. We love taking the little launches as well as the monorail. We also sometimes take the ferry back to the TTC at lunch or early afternoon....short walk from the ferry to the resort.

If you do use the buses from AK or MGM back to the Polynesian, keep an eye out for the TTC bus, too and take whichever arrives first.

We just returned from 4 days at the poly. On Saturday we all had seats for the early opening bus to MGM. Didn't wait long for the bus and our return was easy, too.

Yesterday we went to the early opening for AK and it was a crowded bus, and we had to stand. We left AK after about an hour and a half and a bus was waiting going directly to the Magic Kingdom-- where we were headed, so it worked out great for us.

Anolther time, we took the boat to the Magic Kindgom, which gave us a chance to take some great pictures of the hotel.
