Bus from PO vs. driving car

Hi ~ which is faster, taking the bus to MK from PO or driving the rental car? THANKS S

They are just about the same when you figure in everything. If you catch the bus just as you are walking to the stop, it may save you time since it will drop you off in front of the MK. If you have to wait for the bus that can take longer than parking your car & waiting for the tram & monorail/ferry. I prefer the bus when going to MK....but when going to the other parks, I prefer my car.

Sandra, we drive our car almost everywhere. But when it comes to MK, it is always better to use Disney transportation. When you drive, you are at the ticket and transportation centre and you have to take: first the tram to get to those gates, then the monorail or ferry across to the main MK gates. Disney transportation lets you off right at the gate of the Magic Kingdom. Time well spent on the bus.

I agree with the others.

We take our car every place except MK. By the time you drive to the TTC and take the monorail or boat to MK, you can usually already be there by bus.

Guess we're the ones who are different. When we were last there, which was Nov. 2000, we stayed at Dixie Landings, (yeah, I know, PO-R) and after we checked in and parked the car, we never touched it again until we headed home. I think using Disney Transportation exclusively, added more to the experience of being there.

We'd get off at the front bus stop when we came back at night and just took our time walking back to the room.

I'm with you Beast. Each trip I toy with the idea of renting a car. But, then my dh says..'It's no vacation if I have to drive anywhere'. We've found the bus system works quite well. It may not always be the quickest way, but it certainly is the least stressful. Sometimes we forget that we are on vacation and we should be stopping to smell the roses, so to speak. We've stayed at POR twice now and the buses have been terrific. I say, forget the car rental and use the buses.

I love having a car when I stay on-site. The rides to parks, water park, DD is so much quicker. I do agree that you should take a bus to MK, but that is the only place it is faster. You need a car to go to Poly(tonga toast) and GF(tea)

Definetly the bus. It's a straight shoot right to the turnstiles of the MK. From the gates of Port Orleans, it's about 10-12 mins, tops.

It takes slightly less time to get to the Toll Plaza by car, but then you have to wait in line at the toll plaza, then park the car, walk to the tram lane, wait for the tram, take the tram to the TTC, wait in line for the monorail, and then take the monorail over. (Or Ferry of course) Not to mention they hold you back at the TTC till 8:45.

We have always rented a car....you never know when a middle of the night run to the drugstore or supermarket will come up (DS is 5 and DD is 9)! We've thought about not renting a car, but, just the peace of mind of having the option sitting in the parking lot helps us sleep better.

That said, we, too, have found the buses to be a great way to get to the parks, especially from the POFQ. The only place we NEVER take the bus, is to DD. Whenever possible, and when time allows, we love to 'cruise' on the boats, but, failing that, we always drive....had only bad luck with the buses. They never seem to run frequently enough, and so much waiting to get back to POFQ.
